Chapter 112 - Island Amidst the Dark Waters

Even though we were quite far from the ocean right now, Richard grabbed my hand and teleported me to the place where old man Eisen rescued me. Without saying a word, we stepped into the sea, and then my vision went dark.

It only lasted a moment, although it did make me a bit dizzy. I suppose the sealing of my powers weakened my body that even teleporting in a body of water, my domain, makes me uncomfortable.

We emerged from the water, although it wasn't the normal light blue color of the sea. This one was rather dark blue, reaching the darkness of ink. I looked at it and asked, "When you said that you would introduce me to someone, I don't suppose that it is a squid?"

Richard glanced at me and noted, "You're making jokes."

"I am not."

"Deny it if you like. But it seems the seal isn't that strong for sarcasm to seep through it."

"I am not making jokes," I said firmly, although I didn't even believe myself.

"You made a joke about driving when you were with Bast earlier," he retorted with a raised eyebrow. I didn't reply because I didn't have anything to say. Perhaps he was right; perhaps the seal was loosening a bit.

Still, I couldn't feel anything.

"In any case," he started, changing the subject, "Can you guess where we are going?"

I took a moment to think and then responded, "I can feel my Lord powers tingling a bit when touching this weird water. It's like... purity, weirdly enough."

"You are not wrong," he replied calmly but didn't explain how I was right. We elevated a bit and started walking on the water. Richard was definitely using a spell to do that, but it came naturally to me.

I followed him, although we didn't seem to be getting anywhere, even though we had walked for over an hour. Yet I didn't complain, since I knew that the Lord of Chaos had more pressing matters than having me walk aimlessly through a strange sea. And curiously enough, I never doubted that we were still on Midgard, despite the unusual waters.

Another 2 hours passed, and we finally saw a small island with dense forests of trees and plants I have never seen on this planet. If at that time my emotions weren't gone, I would even feel that this is one of the most beautiful places in all of the universe.

As soon as we reached the shore, a few creatures approached. They appeared to be mutated versions of the usual animals on Midgard, like cats, dogs, foxes, cows, and the rest. By now, I have figured out where we are. "This is where Pangu split the Yggdrasil seed."

Richard nodded and said, "I'm impressed that you figured it out this quickly. Yes, this is indeed where Yggdrasil was created. How did you figure it out?"

"The laws here are much stronger. I told you before, the water felt pure, despite its color. Even the air feels different here. Plus, there is also the case of this forest and the animals," I calmly explained.

"Not bad."

"Where is the island located on the planet, though?"

"Can you guess?"

"We are obviously still on Midgard's surface, so it has to be on a map... Furthermore, it is not a place anyone can just enter... Is it the Bermuda Triangle?"

Richard raised his eyebrows and exclaimed, "Sometimes your deduction skills can be scary. But yes, this indeed is what the mortals call the Bermuda Triangle."

"What happens to the mortals that enter this place?"

"Their bodies will not be able to withstand the strong laws here, so they just naturally dissipate and return to the form of pure energy."

"If that's the case, why are the ships, planes, and all the means used to enter this area left intact and return to the outside world eventually?"

"To put it simply, the transportation means are made of metals or wood in most cases; they are of the world itself, so the force field around the island will leave them intact."

"Force Field?"

"Yes, there is a force field around the island. In fact, the island, formally called the Island of Creation, itself is triangular in shape. What people perceive as a triangle is the force field mimicking the shape of the land."

"And you just leave it like that? For anyone to enter the field and disintegrate? Are you okay with letting so many innocents die?"

Richard took a moment of silence, then sighed heavily, "Ever since I became the Lord of Chaos a long time ago, I decided to put an order in the subconscious of the humans that is passed down through birth, that no one is to enter the triangle. However, it seems that with each generation, the order would slightly change.

Lately, it has been that no one can enter the Island's area willingly. But, they can reach it by accident; a storm, for example. I do interfere to save some people, of course, but only those who deserve to live. Not many do, I'm afraid."

I took another look at the island and asked him with indifference, "What am I supposed to do here?"

"Whatever you like," Richard shrugged. "However, you will not get out of here unless you regain your powers."

"I don't want to regain them. What for? Another massacre?"

"Power is available in many forms to all beings in the universe. What gives them meaning is how you choose to use them," Richard calmly replied. But suddenly, before he could go on, a woman's voice could be heard.

"Who goes there?"
