Chapter 5 - Improvements

"Nice job, Icy," said Steve.

"Thank you for the praise, master," said Icy. Icy put the corpse of the Three-horned Serpent down next to Steve. The Three-horned Serpent was about 10 feet long.

Steve asked the system with his mind.

[Of course I can, my lord. You just need to put your hand on the monster.]

Steve put his hand on the head of the Three-horned Snake. "Like this?" he asked.

[Yes, my lord.] The Three-horned snake turned into white light and disappeared into Steve's hand. After about half a minute, the system told Steve that it was done and the Three-horned Snake had been turned into a monster card.

"Brother, you're back!" said Charlene. "What took you so long?"

"I went to hunt some monsters," said Steve, putting down the branches that he was carrying.

Charlene then noticed Icy, who was walking behind Steve. "Brother, who is that girl?"

"She's Icy," said Steve. "My other monster."

"What!? She's a monster?" asked Charlene, surprised.

"Yes. I told you I had another monster, didn't I?" said Steve. He called back Uni and Leon into their respective monster cards. He took out one monster card from his pocket and handed it to Charlene. "Here, take the Flame Falcon."

"A copper quality 5 stars monster! How!?" exclaimed Charlene.

"Don't worry about it," said Steve. "Just take it."

"Okay," said Charlene, taking the monster card. "Thank you, brother."

"And give this card to Charlotte," said Steve, taking out another card from his pocket.

"Okay," said Charlene, taking the card without even looking at it. She then went to Charlotte, who was talking with Bravy, and gave the card to her.

Steve gathered everyone together. He asked them to put together all the dead tree branches they had gotten. They had gotten quite a bit of dead branches that it made Steve wonder if they had taken all the dead branches within a 5 kilometer radius.

Steve then told the girls to split the branches into four piles. One pile was for branches that were stiff and harder than metal. Another pile was for flexible branches that were still pretty sturdy. The third pile was for branches that were long and stiff and hard. The last pile was for branches that were too thin and branches that did no go into any of the first three piles. After that, Steve told Icy to take the branches from the fourth pile and throw them away.

Steve told the girls to summon out all their monsters so he could make the monsters some weapons. The girls agreed and each summoned out their monsters. Steve then told the girls to focus on making the defense. After that, Steve went right to work. He took about half of the branches from the first pile.

----------

The next morning...

"Okay, I'm finished," said Steve.

"We're done as well," said Hazel.

Steve then showed them the weapons he made for each monster. He made an armor for Bella and Windy, claws for Bravy and Tally the Flame Falcon, and knuckle gloves for Charlene's Boxing Panda, Bandy. Steve told them that he didn't make armors for Bravy and Tally because the armor would affect their ability to fly and use their wings properly. He also told them that he didn't make anything for Awry since their really wasn't a weapon Awry could use and an armor would do more harm than good for Awry. He then explained to them that Uni and Leon were better off without weapons and that Icy didn't need any weapons or armor.

After that, the girls showed Steven the base that they had made. It was simple and crude, but it was pretty strong. Steve told Icy to attack with the strength of a level 10 bronze quality 1 star monster and it held out pretty well. Steve concluded that the base could at most withstand one attack from a level 10 bronze quality 5 stars monster, but it was pretty good.

"Okay," said Steve. "Change of plans. I think our defense is good enough, so I suggest that we go out together and work on our teamwork instead as well as allow the monsters to get used to their temporary weapons and armor. How does that sound?"

The girls agreed, and they all walked about 20 kilometers away from their camp deeper into the monster territory. This time, Doven and Elden came with. Adding up all the distance the students had covered and would cover into the monster territory, they would be about 50 kilometers into the monster territory. 50 kilometers wasn't really too dangerous, but there were chances of silver quality monsters appearing, although the chances were slim. Normally, silver quality monsters wouldn't really be considered dangerous, especially to an experienced monster tamer, but to the students, they were extremely dangerous, so they had to follow and keep the students safe in case they encounter any silver quality monsters.

(Steve: Really? Extremely dangerous? More dangerous than Icy?)

(Icy: Silver quality? You mean those little hatchlings that haven't even grown up yet?)

----------

"Brother! Bravy said that he has spotted a few monsters nearby," said Charlotte.

"In what direction?" asked Steve.

"There are about 2 monsters to our right and 3 monsters in the front." said Charlotte.

"Tell Bravy to come back down here so he doesn't attract other monsters for now," said Steve.

"Okay," said Charlotte. After which, Bravy flew down and landed on top of Charlotte's shoulder.

"Now, which group of monsters do you want to fight first?" asked Steve.

"I think we should fight the monsters to our right first. That way, we will have higher chance of taking out one monster first before the monsters get joined up by other monsters," said Kimberley.

"Okay," said Steve. "What does the rest of us think?"

"I agree," said Hazel. Locke nodded in agreement.

"We'll go with whatever you say," said Charlene.

"Ok, we're fighting the monsters on our right first. Summon out your monsters and we will be going there," said Steve. After he finished speaking, The girls all summoned out their own monsters. Steve asked Charlotte to let Bravy lead the way, and she agreed. Bravy flew in front of the group at a low altitude so that it would be hard for other monsters to see him but was still in sight of Steve's group.

After a while, they met up with two Rainbow Venom Spiders. Both of the spiders were about a 1 meter long and a feet wide. They were both level 10 bronze quality 1 star monsters.

"Careful," said Steve. "Their fangs will inject toxic venom that will paralyze you after about a minute and will kill you if its not treated within a day. Except for their fangs, their whole body is very poisonous so tell your monsters to be careful and try not to touch the spiders with their bare skins." Of course, if anyone gets poisoned Steve could just have Uni cure them but he didn't say it because he didn't want the girls to rely too much on Uni.

"Well, I guess my Awry can't help in this battle. I'm sorry," said Locke, apologetic. Awry didn't have any attack that would allow him to attack without touching the monster's body. Also, Steve hadn't create a weapon for Awry or armor for Awry since Awry would have just burned the wood while attacking and it would have just slowed Awry down instead of actually helping. Awry could try to just attack the spiders' fangs, but it was too much of a risk for two reasons.

First, the spiders could actually get Awry with their fangs if Awry wasn't careful enough and didn't get away in time and would have injected their venoms into Awry instead. And second, a much more likely scenario would be Awry missing the spiders' fangs due to the spiders' dodging or Awry inaccuracy and Awry would instead hit the spiders' body and get poisoned instead.

"That's fine," said Steve. He looked at the other girls. "Icy is resistant to poison and is pretty strong, so I'll let Icy handle one, and you'll handle the rest, okay?"

The girls nodded in understanding.

"Good, let's go. Icy, take the left Rainbow Venom Spider," said Steve. Then, with his mind, he told Icy to hold back and to not take out the spider before the girls took out the Rainbow Venom Spider on the right. Icy replied that she understood and quickly dashed towards the left spider and fought with the spider with her hands and feet. The girls commanded their own monsters to fight the other spider.
