Chapter 43 - Alien Cat Fight

"Starfire. Arisia. You two are next. Arisia," Batman added as they walked towards the arena, "don't use your ring. Star, no lasers."

The two opponents chose to pace about in a circle, eying the other. Once the whistle blew the fight went to the air in a blur. Arisia grappled with Starfire like a mid-air clinch manuever against the ceiling. It was as if they were trying to fight for the high ground.

"It appears that Tamaraneans and Graxonites have similar strength." As if on cue Starfire let out a howl, "But I don't know of anything short of a Kryptoian that could have a chance of winning against a Tamaranean Warrior in their bezerker state."

Starfire then promptly threw Arisia into the ground and tried to land on her with both feet. The Lantern rolled back with ease before leaping forward for a flying knee. It connected but Starfire partially blocked it; her hands shielded her face and her flight was used to slow down her fall. It was like they were fighting in zero gravity or under water.

Arisia hopped again, getting a nasty right upper cut to Star's gut. Starfire, however, had the high ground and struck down with both hands like a hammer. The Lantern predicted this, and partially blocked with her left hand.

"Their raw strength seems to always send the other flying even after a good block. Or maybe this is how aliens are trained to fight in space."

"Fights usually end when one is pinned both on earth and space. An equivalent of concept is rolling with the punches to lessen the blow." Megan commented beside Batman, "One can't do that if their head or body is squashed against a wall. I don't need to employ such strategies thanks to my phasing."

The two glared at each other, barriers behind each of them. One, the ceiling and the other, the floor. It was Starfire who's patience broke first. Charging, Arisia stood her ground and redirected her in a way to minimize momentum but maximize blunt impact so she couldn't break the blow. This made her angrier.

Starfire attempted to right herself but Arisia gripped her leg and slammed her overhead. I was surprised when Star twisted and kicked the Lantern in the temple. Next the blonde slammed again before grabbing Star's hair, but something changed. I could sense a escalation. That slam wasn't to spar, it was to kill.

"Oh crap," Megan said, eyes wide, "Kevin help."

One slam and crack of head against pavement later I guessed why. Popping my shoulder out I flew in to assist. Megan zipped in with her super speed and pulled Arisia off. I could tell by her eyes that she wasn't here, she was back on the war zone. Arisia thrashed like an animal and Megan seemed to be using her full strength to hold her back.

"Ari, Ari!" Megan shouted, "You're on earth! Calm down!"

Her eyes and ring glowed for a moment before she started breathing.

"Willpower Ari. Not fear. Don't let fear drive you."

Starfire rolled over and looked up at the ceiling in defeat with a sigh. Arisia came to and realized what she was preparing to do. It made her shake.

"I'm so sorry Starfire, I-"

"Worry not," she tried to smile, "my pride stings more from defeat than the pain from the cut on my head here-" she pointed, "all is well."

"Kevin," Megan suggested, "take Ari to her room."
