Chapter 407 - Chapter 9: Encounter (I)

As always Giliath demands your power stones!

"Unfortunately.", Giliath replied, nodding his head. "We'll be heading a district over to Heimdallr Airport. Our flight leaves in an hour. There's enough time to walk the distance and board the airship. I'll be away with Naoto for two days. I don't think anything will happen, but I will be absent during this time.", Giliath replied. "And His Imperial Majesty has already been notified of my leave. It's been approved."

"Well that is good to hear, at least. I don't see anything major to come out of your travelling. Where are you heading to, exactly?", General Vandyck questioned, keeping his voice quiet.

"The country of Liberl.", Giliath simply replied, suddenly dropping the bomb on General Vandyck. I saw his eyes turn more serious.

"Liberl? At this time of year? Do you know how dangerous this is if a certain group of people were to catch wind of this?", General Vandyck questioned. Giliath just smiled back at him.

"Which is why I'll leave it to you so that doesn't happen. I am not using my status for this visit, it shouldn't pose a problem.", Giliath replied. Hearing that, General Vandyck sighed.

"Fine. I'll trust your words on this. You typically end up being right most of the time.", General Vandyck said as he sighed. "And besides that point, if you have a moment or two, I feel we should drop by another one of our old friends. His house should be situated on Alto Street.", General Vandyck said, drawing our attention.

"Indeed. One of your disciples lives here. He's always busy hosting drills at our training compound so I don't get a chance to interact with him much. Is he here?", Giliath questioned.

General Vandyck's disciple? Well, seeing how old he is, I'm sure he's trained quite a few soldiers, whether it be directly, or indirectly. A couple individuals stand out that I can think of.

One being Instructor Neithardt and the other who is known as Craig the Red. The latter is also an active General of the Imperial Army. The same rank as General Vandyck. Father is a Brigadier General.

I do believe being a General has its own ranks, with Generals being at the very, very top. Brigadier General is at the bottom, and there's a couple ranks in-between them. Father is one of the highest ranking members inside the Imperial Army, but he isn't the highest. Albeit subtly, I could see respect in the tone father was using.

Regarding Instructor Neithardt, I don't think we'll be seeing him. He's much younger than other folks in the Imperial Army. Father is already pretty old, and General Vandyck is much older than him. For Instructor Neithardt, he should be around thirteen or fourteen years old. He probably hasn't even joined one of the most renown military schools in all of Erebonia, Thors Military Academy.

Lots of people who play through the Cold Steel games forget that Thors Military Academy is in fact, a military institution that is designed to raise and train new soldiers so they can join the ranks of the Imperial Army once they graduate. And while that might be the school's primary objective, you could still enroll there to learn other subjects, and join trade organizations and such. The school had a lot to offer.

I'm sure my father will want me to attend Thors Military Academy at some point. And even if that wasn't one of his desires, I still plan to study at Thors Military Academy. I mean, that's a free chance to interact with a lot of the characters in Trails. Why would I want to pass up an opportunity like that?

For the time being, I returned to my normal thoughts; showing interest in my eyes. I raised my head up and looked at my father.

"Are we going to meet someone, dad?", I asked.

"We are. He holds the same rank as General Vandyck here. He may not be as close a friend as he is, but it is good to meet him nonetheless--", Giliath tried to answer me.

"Gahaha! Now this is a sight for sore eyes. I didn't think I'd get to see the two of you of all people together here, back in Heimdallr.", A haughty voice suddenly said, calling out to us. Shortly after, we turned our heads forward, and saw a figure approach us after hearing the door to a nearby house close. I soon saw his orange splendor. He was one of the few characters in Trails to have orange hair, as did the rest of his family.

In fact, he'll be having a son very, very soon. Elliot Craig, one of the characters you can play as in the Cold Steel games. He is due next year, I believe. And sure enough, the man who arrived before us is Elliot's father. He should be in his late thirties right now.

I peeked my head around near Giliath's leg, showing interest at the orange-haired man. It didn't lake long for a wide grin to appear on his face.

"Now there's something I wasn't expecting to see.", The orange-haired man said, observing me.

"Hello!", I replied.

Hearing this, the man smiled, and then looked at two men beside me.

"Shall we take this inside? I was just heading out to do some shopping, but I can spare a few minutes. Didn't think I'd catch you in Heimdallr today, General Osborne. I could say the same to you, General Vandyck.", The orange-haired man suggested.

"Fine by me. Pardon the intrusion.", Giliath replied. General Vandyck also nodded his head.

Looks like we are taking a detour after all. Father did say there's still an hour till the flight takes off.

I guess I should go into detail about that too. Orbal energy is clean, and efficient. Surprise but not surprise, aircrafts and airships exist here in Zemuria too! And they're a lot better than those airplanes in my previous life. They take barely any start-up to work properly. There's no wait to have engines boot up. We don't need long ass runways either. Airships here can take to the skies vertically thanks to the wonders of orbal energy.

Because of that, we don't have to wait hours on end just to simply board an airship. Boarding just takes a few moments for most of its passengers.

So there was more than enough time to spend a few moments inside this man's home.

And his house was just one or two houses down. Nothing kept us waiting so we approached it right away, only to hear the orange-haired man loudly speak inside as if someone was in there.

"Fiona, I'm back!", The orange-haired man yelled.

"Didn't you just depart, dad---?", A voice of a girl said, only to pause her speaking. I could see an orange-haired girl standing near the kitchen, fiddling away at some cleaning.

"Oh my. Are those guests?", The girl questioned. She seemed to be a child, very similar to me, but a few years older. Perhaps around five years old?

I just stared at the girl. Isn't this girl supposed to be Instructor Neithardt's future fiancé? What was her name again...I think it was Fiona?

"Hello there little one. There's a lot of that going around there now, isn't there?", General Vandyck said, greeting the small orange-haired girl with a look of amusement. "It would seem your child is doing well, General Craig.", General Vandyck said.

"Gahaha! I didn't think Fiona would get herself a new playmate so soon. Welcome to fatherhood life, General Osborne.", The orange-haired man retorted with a big grin on his face.

A playmate huh?

That idea didn't sound half bad.
