"I've prepared the sticks, look."
Fu Ling took out a stick, about a foot long, as thick as a spear shaft. It was clear that this stick had been meticulously polished, with an exceptionally smooth surface.
Long ago, the people of the tribe weren't very particular.
When a man fancied a woman, or a woman fancied a man, they would prepare a stick and, when the other party wasn't paying attention, knock them out and bring them into a cave, thus accomplishing their desire.
But there were significant drawbacks to this method.
For instance, when someone was unwilling or uninterested in the other person, they would often make a huge scene upon waking. Many people lacked restraint, even cracking open heads—resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries, causing great headaches for the tribe's Witch.
Later, as the tribe developed, most people moved out of the caves. Many tribes derived a rule that one could no longer indiscriminately knock people out with sticks; consent was required.
