Chapter 16 - Team WABY pt.2

'Thoughts'

"Talking"

[ Sytem Prompt ]

————————————————————————————————————————

Beacon Cliff. A cliff in Beacon (obviously) overlooking a vast forest, where several students stood on stone platforms.

On the side stood a mug holding Ozpin and Glynda with a tablet on her hands, on top of a silver platform, looking over the students. Though some may catch the anticipating glint on Ozpin's eyes.

Altair stood on the very end, away from Ozpin, with his gigantic cross on his back. Calm and composed, knowing what will happen next. Though something worried him that very moment.

' How do I safely land? '

How indeed. He didn't have any protruding blades attached to his shield, nor did his weapon have any projectile to fire in order to somewhat kill his momentum.

Taking the brunt of the force might work, but what if he broke some...

' Wait I have Aura '

Aura enhances the user's physicality, basically making then superhuman on top of their already trained body. So with his physical capabilities basically being Taro Sakamoto in his prime, plus Aura, Altair should be able to handle crashing into trees no problem.

' Problem solved then. '

With his turmoil resolved, Altair focused on the forest in front of him, taking note of the ruins that he was able to see. Satisfied he turned to listen to the two professors on the side.

"Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams."

Said Glynda, with her serious expression.

"Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today." She said with bluntness in everyword.

"What ohhh" a faint cry was heard.

' Definitely Ruby '.

Ozpin's voice rangout, following up on Glynda.

"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well.

A faint mischievous smile made its way on Ozpin's face.

"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years."

Ozpin took a sip of his mug before continuing.

His tone switching to a more serious and professional approach.

"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die."

Then he switched back to his normal tone.

"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"

' Nope '

Altair readily adjusted his stance, resting the cross's bottom on the platform to his side, while his grip remained tight on it.

"Good! Now, take your positions."

' Here goes nothing then '

The platform beneath his feet sprang up, launching him up and high into the air, towards the vast Emerald Forest.

First POV : Altair

This is so messed up, I swear that old man has a thing for launching up students to their deaths. The view is nice though.

"Now then, where to land".

A few trees up distance, let's crash then shan't we. With a big hoist, the shield is raised right in front of me. Then, with an abrupt.

CRASH!

The large tree got pierced right through the trunk. Splinters flew out, some hitting me with no apparent damage, as another tree collided with the shield, this time it somewhat slowed down my momentum as I landed on the ground, the earth forming a crater beneath my feet.

Laying on the ground, a slow subtle breath escaped from my chest. Exhaustion settling in even though the day hadn't even functionally started yet.

"Okay, let's start by finding myself a teammate"

( A/N: Didn't know what I wanted to happen here. Maybe wanted to try a style? It's not good I know I'll try better next time.)

The trees in the Emerald forest stood stall, as it cast shade under their collective leaves. A few rays of sunlight camedown lighting up the forest. Under the sunlight, Weiss's white dress seemed to glow faintly, as it reflected upon its surface.

Sigh.

"You got this Weiss. You've trained hard, and you will get inside this institution!"

Conviction clear from her tone, Weiss hyped herself up, as she held Myrtenaster in her hand, ready for any encounter with the grimm.

Her steps were careful and steady, unnatural even. They were practiced step, trained to a proficient level.

Snap!

A brach snapped in the distance, across the bushes, blocking her vision. Weiss grew tense, readying her rapier with practiced movement.

"Breathe. Remeber shoulders back, right foot forward" Composing herself, she got to her stance. The atmosphere grew tense, as the silece of the forest grew louder, only breaking due to the occasional breeze passing by.

The bush rustled, swaying back and forth. Weiss remaiend calm as she held her rapier, ready to thrust whatever was behind those bushes.

' slow your breathing, wait for the right time to strike, and... '

A large figure covered by the shade emerged from the bushes.

' Now! '

Wasting no time, Weiss lunged forward, her rapier thrusting its point towards the large figure.

Tink!

Suddenly a large shield blocked her rapier, deflecting the blade to the side, as a voice screamed out in panick.

"WAIT WAIT! WEISS IT'S ALTAIR"

Altair screamed, causing Weiss to stop from launching another attack at him. Weiss paused for a moment, looking shocked, as she let down her rapier.

"Altair? What are you doing?! I almost hit you! Why didn't you say anything?!!"

With annoyance and anger, Weiss suddenly lashed out, even though Altair should be the angry one in this situation. Seeing no threat befalling him, he moved the shield to the side, as he let out a sigh.

"You know I should be the one complaining right now"

Altair hoisted the shield's strap back to his shoulder, as he looked at Weiss with a sheepish smile on his face. Weiss on the other hand, blushed in embrassment, before crossing her arms with her cheeks puffed, as she turned her face to the side.

"W-well I apologize. I grew tense, because of the forest's atmosphere"

"It's fine. I'm just glad no one got injured."

Altair said with a soft smile on his face. He made eye contact with Weiss, who turned to face him with a smile.

"Well yes. I am glad that there was no injuries"

"It looks like we're partners now. I look forward to working with you" He walked up to her, and offered up a handshake.

"Like wise" She took his hand with a firm grasp, shaking it moderately, before letting go.

"Okay then. Since I'm carrying a shield is it okay if I lead the way?"

"Do you even know where the temple is?" She asked with a condescending tone

"In fact I do. I saw it from the cliff, and as I was falling." He said immediately, as he started walking to the direction of the temple.

"I think this should be fine. Oh and in a fight I should go first to get there attention, before you attack. That way we can eliminate them quickly." Altair walked away, not even waiting on Weiss's response.

"Hey wait!" Flustered, she followed him quickly as he went deeper into the forest.
