"Maybe I should've been content with just one girlfriend…" Aiden muttered as he dropped onto a bench, arms loaded with shopping bags—designer clothes, shoes, accessories, things he didn't even recognize. "This is insane."
Kitty Pryde sat beside him, sipping on a fruity iced drink, clearly less burdened. "Oh, come on. You're not having at least a little fun?"
"I would be," Aiden grumbled, "if it was something we all enjoyed. Instead, I'm the glorified pack mule while you all shop like it's a competitive sport. Twenty bags. Twenty, Kitty."
She shrugged, playful. "Hey, you moved us all the way to L.A. from New York. We need new wardrobes. Different weather, different vibe. Adapt and accessorize, king."
He rolled his eyes just as he noticed someone approaching from the corner of his vision.
"Well, well... look who it is. Mr. Saved-The-World himself," came a familiar, smug voice.
Aiden didn't need to look to know who it was. "What the fuck do you want, Pietro?"
Quicksilver smirked, silver hair slicked back and sunglasses pushed up on his head. He pointed to the mountain of bags at Aiden's feet. "You're not alone in this hell, man. But from what I see? Your situation's way worse."
Before Aiden could shoot back, Pietro jolted forward with a small oof as someone smacked the back of his head.
"Hello, Aiden," Wanda said sweetly, stepping up beside her brother, handing another shopping bag to Pietro, who groaned.
Aiden arched a brow. "Wanda... are you following me?"
She tilted her head innocently. "Maybe. Maybe not. Just because you moved to LA doesn't mean I can't. I'm a free woman now."
"Yeah?" Aiden scoffed. "Then take that pretty little freedom of yours and use it somewhere else. I'm busy."
"I only wanted to talk," Wanda said, a hint of sincerity slipping into her voice.
"Oops," Aiden said mockingly. "Look at that. I'm drowning in bags, and someone's gotta carry them for my girls. Whatever it is, it'll have to wait."
As he stood up, Kitty following behind with a chuckle, Wanda called after him.
"Pietro will help you with that, right brother?"
Pietro looked at her like she'd just told him to babysit a herd of gremlins. "What? Hell no. I'm not his errand—"
Wanda turned and gave him that smile. The one that said 'do it or regret it'.
"Okay, okay!" he grumbled, and in the blink of an eye, every bag vanished from Aiden's arms. Pietro zipped off and back again in less than four seconds. "Done. Happy?"
Aiden stared at Wanda. "You know I could've done that myself."
She met his gaze, unwavering. "I know. But this wasn't about helping—it was about talking. And I'm not leaving until you hear me out."
"Wanda… not to be rude—but I don't want to talk to you."
"Why?" she asked, her expression hardening. "I helped you fight Galactus. I've been nothing but respectful to you since. Why do you keep pushing me away?"
Aiden's eyes narrowed. "Because you remind me of your father. That's it. That's the reason. I don't feel comfortable around the daughter of someone I killed."
"And I told you," she said, stepping closer, her tone sharper now, "he wasn't our real father. He adopted us for our power. He used us. Pietro and I appreciate what he gave us, but we never loved him. That man didn't define me."
Aiden exhaled sharply, staring at her for a long beat. "You're persistent."
"I'm a witch of chaos," Wanda said with a sly smile. "My mind is a storm that never stops moving. But the day I saw you… it quieted. That has never happened before."
He frowned, skeptical. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means," she said slowly, "that chaos itself bent to you. It shouldn't have. Chaos doesn't kneel… but it did. To you. So, yeah—I want to know why. I want to serve it again. I want in."
"In on what?"
"Your team. You might have a harem of lovers, but each one of them is powerful. And now, you've got ties to Stark. Spider-Man. Even Thor. You're building something, Aiden. I see it. And I want to be part of it."
Aiden stared at her in silence. The chaos witch. Scarlet Wanda Maximoff. She could be a wildcard. Or an incredible asset.
"Just like that?" he asked.
Wanda smiled. "Just like that. Want me to kneel to prove it?"
She actually began lowering herself—right there in the middle of a crowded street—but Aiden's hand shot forward and stopped her.
"Okay, okay. Damn. We're in public."
He stared at her for a moment more, then gave in with a sigh. "Fine. My place. Tonight. 9 PM. Don't be late."
She nodded, satisfied.
And with that, Aiden turned back toward the next store, muttering under his breath, "Now back to using more of that stark money"
.....
As evening settled over Aiden's LA mansion, the main lab was buzzing with energy and the faint hum of an active dimensional field generator. The room was bathed in a pale blue glow from the incomplete gateway arch that stood at the center, a marvel of both mechanical genius and complex computational interface.
Valeria, clad in a grease-stained tank top, welding gloves, and her signature protective goggles, was perched atop a support beam of the gateway. Sparks flew from her plasma wrench as she adjusted a flux modulator coil embedded in the arch's inner ring. Below her, Gwen sat at a console surrounded by monitors, her fingers dancing over a holographic keyboard as she debugged the neural interface code that Valeria had hastily sketched on the back of a napkin earlier that day.
"Gwen! Shift the quantum phase relay by 0.0032 nanoseconds and invert the polarity on the tertiary access node," Valeria called out as she tightened a bolt with a satisfying click.
"Done. Running it through the simulation loop now..." Gwen replied, biting her lip in concentration as rows of complex data flooded the screen. "Processing... Aaaand... stabilized. For now."
Valeria slid down the side of the frame like it was second nature, landing with a thud and twirling her wrench like a gunslinger. "Good. This version should let us gate-jump from LA to New York in 0.9 seconds flat with a 97% stabilization rate. Just don't sneeze mid-transport or you might end up in Ohio."
Aiden walked in, his arms folded as he observed the two women. "Is it done?"
"Should be," Gwen answered, stretching her neck. "Valeria says it still needs a few tweaks, but with this? We can travel to and back from New York in a heartbeat. Like... less time than a phone call."
"Man, I feel useless," she added with a small sigh.
"What? Why? You just built a freakin' gateway between two states," Aiden said, blinking at her like she'd grown a second head.
Gwen shook hers. "Valeria just built a freakin' gateway. I just sat here on my butt and typed what she told me."
Valeria popped up beside them, her face smudged with soot and a smug grin plastered across it. "Don't sell yourself short. You're one of the best I've worked with. Aiden here is a total dumbass when it comes to science—no offense—so yeah, you did just fine. Sure, you don't compare to me, but then again… nobody does."
She slung the wrench over her shoulder with flair and added, "However!"—she leaned in close, whispering conspiratorially—"You're the only one who could handle this big doofus in bed. We all got humbled."
Gwen's face turned beet red as she nearly choked. "DON'T SAY THAT!"
Aiden burst out laughing alongside Valeria, who gave Gwen a cheeky nudge with her elbow.
Just then, Jubilation Lee strolled in, munching on a lollipop and dressed in her usual flashy, neon-punk ensemble. "Yo, Aiden! The witch is here. Time to start that meeting of yours."
Aiden's smile faded into a more serious expression. "Yes... it's time indeed."
