Chapter 296 - Chapter 296: Ominous Premonition! Could This Actually Be My Fault?

Asher decided to skip over this question. He started talking about the situation he encountered earlier by the seaside.

Upon hearing this, Freya and Felter both froze mid-movement.

"What did that hair look like?", Freya looked at Asher.

Asher took out the paper packet from earlier.

"Hmm...", Freya examined it for quite a while, touched her chin, and said with an uncertain tone, "Looks like some kind of mammal hair?"

"Anyway, it definitely shouldn't belong to an aquatic creature."

"And judging by what you said, it doesn't seem like an ordinary creature, more like a beast," As she spoke, Freya exchanged a glance with Asher.

Clearly, Asher had the same assessment.

There's still a certain difference in intelligence between normal creatures and beasts.

That thing in the sea which had been locked in a tug-of-war with Asher for so long, it really didn't look like an ordinary marine life form no matter how you looked at it.

A big fish? What kind of big fish gets pulled ashore so easily by a simple cast? Even fishermen need dignity.

Asher: "..."

Although that may be so, he really wanted to say, "Isn't it possible that I really have some kind of super awesome fishing physique?"

"Impossible."

"This isn't about whether I believe it or not. Ask yourself, do you believe it?"

As they said this, both of them looked at Asher in unison.

Asher fell silent once again.

Fine, he didn't quite believe it either.

Still the same line, it's not like Asher hadn't been out to sea in this world before.

The last time, when he took Angel out to recharge energy, hadn't they been at sea for quite a while?

Asher had even tried some sea fishing during that time.

There were times when luck was good. And times when luck was as bad as a stinky basket.

But none of those times were like this, bait dropped for three seconds, and the fish was up.

Asher wasn't some kind of Fish King or anything.

"Anyway, just be more careful. This environment might be far more dangerous than we imagined," Asher decided not to continue this depressing topic. He shifted gears and earnestly reminded them.

The two both nodded.

Even if Asher didn't say it, they'd still be careful.

However, compared to the unknown dangers, the nearly fully roasted rabbit and chicken in front of them looked even more delicious.

"Wait a bit longer, this stuff tastes better when it's more charred," Freya flipped the rabbit over while swallowing saliva and said.

Asher sniffed, and felt his mouth watering as well.

The aroma was really something.

I mean, who could resist such an enticing smell?

Well, Asher couldn't.

Freya and Felter couldn't either.

Finally, the first rabbit was done roasting. The remaining wild chicken and one more rabbit were still being cooked, but the three of them couldn't wait anymore.

This wasn't about hunger, this was about craving.

Sometimes it's like that, even when you're full from a meal, you still can't resist the temptation of a snack. It's not about self-control, it's a bodily instinct.

"Let's split it, everyone grab a bite."

None of the three had any objections. And they quickly divided up the rabbit.

The juiciest part of the rabbit is its two hind legs, but with three people, Felter decisively waved his hand, "You two eat first. The next rabbit, both legs are mine! You two can split the chicken legs!"

Freya gave Felter a shameless eye-roll, "Dream on!"

Asher quietly accepted his share of the hind leg and started gnawing on it.

While eating, he watched the two argue over the extra rabbit leg.

Eating while watching a show, it was really lively.

Crispy and charred like glassy skin, with a hint of honey sweetness and the deep flavor of the marinade, it was genuinely delicious.

While eating himself, Asher didn't forget to share a portion with his pet beasts at home to taste.

He ate so quickly that Freya and Felter, who were still arguing, didn't even notice.

By the time they finished their squabble, and finally agreed Freya would eat first, they were about to start eating when they suddenly noticed, the blue sky and white clouds above their heads had changed color without them noticing.

The sun was gradually dimming.

The sky seemed to be covered by a thick dark cloud, looking oppressively black and stifling.

"Uh… what's going on? Gonna rain?", Chewing a delicious rabbit leg, Freya said vaguely, her voice sounding a little odd.

Felter flipped the rabbit and chicken on the grill and said casually, "No worries!"

"We've got a tent! High tech!"

"Plenty to block the rain!"

"Even if it floods, we can use the tent as a raft!"

Hearing Felter's tone full of nonchalance, Asher couldn't help but think again, 'Just what kind of things has this kid learned outside?'

'Why does everything he says sound off somehow?'

Asher wiped his mouth and stood up, looking toward the sky.

Then, Asher frowned, eyes filled with unease.

"No!", Asher shouted, "That's not a cloud!"

Freya and Felter: "?"

The two froze for a second, then quickly stood up.

They squinted toward the sky together.

A massive, sky-covering black shadow was rapidly closing in from the far end of the sky, so far away it felt like it had no end.

At the very front, there seemed to be a small black dot.

But because the dot was so tiny, if you weren't looking for it, you wouldn't notice it for a while.

"Fu*k"

"I knew it!"

Freya and Felter's expressions changed drastically.

Freya instantly summoned the Flame Dragon Jaeger, "Go! Get out now! Not even a second's delay!"

'Gonna die, Prince!'

Freya didn't curse out loud, but in her mind she was yelling nonstop from start to finish.

"Fu*k! It must've been my dumb**s brother who did something stupid again!", Felter cursed directly while reluctantly eyeing the half-cooked rabbit and chicken.

Asher: "..."

Although, to be honest, at this moment, he finally kind of understood why Freya, Clyde, Old Hank, and Felter were always reluctant to speak when it came to Prince.

'Good grief, sounds like this is a recurring stunt of his, huh?"

'What is this? Courting death by going up to some pet beast and provoking it?'

'And who knows what kind of pet beast this is?'

'Anyway, just run!'

Asher took his string of pet beasts and jumped onto Flame Dragon Jaeger's back without hesitation. The three of them, with their backpacks and pets, all secured themselves.

"Take off!", Freya gave the order without hesitation.

Felter wiped nonexistent tears from the corners of his eyes, "Wuwuwu! Goodbye! My barbecue I never even got to eat!"

Reluctant, but life is more important.

Flame Dragon Jaeger shot off like a rocket.

However... the situation didn't improve. In fact, now that they were in the air and had a broader view, things looked even worse.

Felter stared in horror at that direction, his outstretched hand trembling, "No… no way… what the heck is that thing?"

Massive, sky-covering, wildly thrashing, Countless tentacles.

It was as if half the ocean had turned into tentacles (not really).

Little Raven crawled into Asher's arms with disgust. Cat-Worm looked a little scared… and also a little excited.

Cat-Worm: (﹃) 'Tentacles.'

'So many black tentacles!'

'Cat-Cat also wants to have so many tentacles!'

Asher: "..."

'There's a chance, there's a chance, all of this is possible,' Asher calmly comforted the eager Cat-Worm who looked like it was ready to dash over.

Then Asher noticed, the emotions of his pet beasts seemed a bit off.

Especially compared to Felter's pets.

Felter's beasts, be it the Gold-armored Wyvern or the Rhinoceros-armored Beast, were both shaking like leaves, scared stiff, trying to burrow into Felter's arms.

Felter flailed about trying to calm them down, attempting to return them to the spiritual sea pet space.

But this process seemed a bit… difficult.

The Tier 8 Flame Dragon Jaeger looked a little scared too, though compared to Felter's pets, it was much better, more like an involuntary body response.

But Asher's pets…

Little Raven didn't even count.

With the Three-legged Golden Crow bloodline, Little Raven thought everything could be handled, whether it really could be was another matter.

Asher didn't comment on Cat-Worm's reckless courage.

Cat-Worm: 'Meow~ I'm not reckless! I'm confident in my strength!'

Asher nodded.

'Right, exactly, as long as you're happy, no comment.'

Angel not reacting much was within Asher's expectations.

The name "Ultimate Weapon" wasn't just for show.

But Little White Snake and Little Jellyfish's conditions...

Asher looked down at the two pets.

Little White Snake was tightly coiled around Asher's waist, tightening gradually. Its round golden pupils had turned into slits at some point.

It looked like it was in a hyper-hunting state.

Little White Snake: "Hiss—"

As for Little Jellyfish... it looked like its soul had left its body, nearly floating away. Asher hurriedly grabbed it with both hands.

Still as fun to touch.

Soft and moist.

Boing! Boing! Boing!

Little Jellyfish: "Gulu~"

'A call?'

Little Jellyfish sounded like it was drunk, the voice it transmitted to Asher was dazed and fuzzy.

Asher silently popped out a question mark.

'What's going on here?'

"Gulu~"

Little Jellyfish wiggled its tentacles again, seeming in high spirits, then blew out a colorful bubble.

Although Freya was focused on steering Flame Dragon Jaeger to escape, she wasn't completely unaware of those around her.

And then she saw Asher playing with what looked like a slime.

Freya: "?"

Freya: *pupil quake*

'Professor Asher, where's your reliable image?'

The next second, she saw Asher's face suddenly darken.

Freya popped another question mark. She realized, Asher wasn't someone who'd be playing with a pet at a time like this. He must've discovered something.

"What's going on, Professor Asher?", Freya shouted loudly, almost yelling at Flame Dragon Jaeger to fly faster.

Jaeger: 'Stop rushing! I'm flying, I'm flying already!'

"Well…", Asher looked toward the massive shadow still heading in their direction. Even though they were fleeing, it somehow felt like it was getting closer.

He pursed his lips, and said in an unoptimistic tone: "...I'm not sure if I saw wrong, but it kind of looks like a Box Jellyfish."

"Fully evolved form," After a pause, Asher added.

Now it was Freya and Felter's turn to start pounding out question marks.

'Seriously?'

'This isn't a joke?'

'Box Jellyfish?'

"Hahaha... I mean, is it possible, just maybe, Professor Asher, you saw wrong?", Felter let out a couple awkward chuckles, then realized he couldn't laugh anymore and stopped.

He looked at Asher, trying to find even the slightest trace of a joke on Asher's face.

Unfortunately…

Asher pursed his lips, "I already had a bad feeling earlier. Never thought..."

"AAAAAAAAHHHH—"

Felter had already started screaming in advance for Asher.

"I get it!"

"I totally get it!"

"Sixth sense! But who in their right mind would mess with a Box Jellyfish!"

"That's a BOX JELLYFISH!"

Every word that came out of Felter's mouth was laced with breakdown.

He couldn't take it anymore.

He really couldn't.

Felter's psyche had collapsed.

"Prince you fu**er!", Felter screamed at the small black dot on the horizon, "Don't come regroup with us now!"

"Own up to your mess and take responsibility!"

'Thumbs up!'

Freya wanted to give Felter's words a glowing review.

The kind of praise that smashes the like button to pieces.

Unfortunately, this is reality, not a game. There are no like or explosion buttons in real life.

They could only despairingly watch as the little black dot rapidly approached in their direction.

"…This might not necessarily be his fault," After thinking for a moment, Asher still stood up and said a fair word.

Why was Asher able to recognize at a glance that this was a Box flower jellyfish?

He didn't recognize it at a glance either.

Asher mainly noticed something fishy from the strange state of the little jellyfish.

Although the little jellyfish is a mutated species, most water-type beasts, especially jellyfish-type beats should not be able to cause a spiritual-level influence on the little jellyfish.

Now in an unfamiliar place.

There is a seemingly familiar beast that managed to do it.

Then the most likely situation is that… the other side is also damn well a Box flower jellyfish.
