Chapter 255 - Tension In The Capital

(Third Person POV)

[King's Landing]

"What?!" Aemon exclaimed, "House Drakkengard is coming here?!"

Jaehaerys nodded as he rubbed the side of his temple, "That is right." He said, "They are. Drakken and his Family."

They were in the King's Chambers; Aemon, Baelon, and Vaegon were in front of their father who sat in his seat.

"This is just great." Baelon said sarcastically, "I can expect a serious Duskguard presence if he's bringing the whole group."

"Does he really expect us to pretend that Sharp Point didn't happen?!' Vaegon exclaimed, "Or that he didn't poison me?!"

Jaehaerys looked at them, "Drakken himself said he doesn't want this." He said as he waved the letter in front of them, "He clearly states that he is doing this for Maegelle. Another example of her having an influence on him. I have warned the Court and anyone else of what could happen should they act out."

Vaegon shook his head, "I don't care about any of that, Father." He said, "Why should we let them in after all the shit Drakken has pulled? I don't understand! He has those things stalking us at every time of the night!"

"We do it because we have no other choice." Jaehaerys said, "You will behave yourself."

"Is it because of Maegelle's daughter?" Baelon asked as he crossed his arms, "You want to see her, don't you?"

Jaehaerys closed his eyes, "That does not matter to me." He said, "Drakken's ire has calmed down ever since Asshai and Sharp Point. I would prefer to keep it that way. And if we can prevent him from killing more dragons, that would be best. He showed no hesitation in taking both Vhagar and Silverwing...."

"Like any of that matters!" Vaegon exclaimed, "And why even bother bringing that bastard child?! Maegelle is-"

"Hey, calm down." Baelon cut him off, "Firstly, you are dragonless, so of course you won't care about dragons. But we need them. Secondly, Maegelle is your sister and you will show her respect."

"She has nothing to do with anything." Aemon told him, "She's a major factor in keeping Drakken's wrath restrained. Do you understand how many lives she's saved without even knowing? The Realm would be in flames if it were not for her."

Vaegon scowled, "That is not my point." He said, "My point is that we should not willingly open our doors to the enemy!"

"Another thing." Jaehaerys said, "Do not call your niece a bastard. If you so much as mention it in front of Drakken, I cannot guarantee that he won't hurt you. I would mind my tongue if I were you, Vaegon. While I do agree that the child is illegitimate, it would be wise to keep that sentiment to ourselves."

"I don't trust this, however." Baelon said, "Is Drakken planning something? How many times must we hold our breath when he comes to the Capital? It is getting frustrating...!"

"They'll be here briefly and then they'll leave." Jaehaerys told him, "We should bear with it for the time being. Your Mother is eager to meet the child, all things considered. We'll accept them as guests...."

"I cannot imagine this will not anger some people." Aemon said, "I trust that the Faith will have something to say about it."

"I will handle Barth." Jaheaerys said, "Truthfully, he should be grateful he is not dead. Drakken wanted his head badly during the war."

"He should be dead by now."

[A Few Days Later]

As the gates to the Keep opened and some Duskguard Knights walked in while horses pulled a large carriage behind them, the King and Queen stood at the far end of the courtyard, awaiting them. Next to them, several guards stood anxiously, seeing that the Duskguard convoy had just arrived there.

Most of the Knights were holding House Drakkengard's banners, an ominous sight for anyone that laid their hands on them.

Alysanne, who was fidgeting with her hands, looked at the massive carriage that was black in color, "Quite the large one...." She muttered, "Are they all in there?"

"I would imagine so." Jaehaerys said

One of the Knights that were on a horse rode up front as the carriage slowed to a stop, "Behold!" He announced, "House Drakkengard of The Trinity and Paramount of the Riverlands!"

Then, the door to the carriage opened, and a knight immediately placed steps in front of it. Jaehaerys watched as Drakken emerged from the carriage, his face hard as stone as he slowly stepped down to the ground.

His eyes pierced them, making them uneasy as he stood in front of the steps. Then, they both saw that behind Drakken, Maegelle emerged from within the carriage, holding what seemed like a babe wrapped in blankets.

"Oh!" Alysanne said softly

As she stepped down, Maegelle's hair flowed to the side due to the breeze. Drakken had offered her his hand to help her down and she took it, giving him a slight smile.

Behind Maegelle, Saera was seen emerging from the carriage, a serious scowl on her face as she was also helped down by Drakken.

"Saera...." Jaehaerys said as he saw the large belly she had, "Hm....."

Saera stepped to the side, flicking her hair back, "Hmph." she said, "What a boring ride....."

"Ah, we're finally here, sister..." Maegelle said with a smile, "You should be glad."

"I am." Saera said as she looked behind her, "Boys, come!"

The King and Queen saw as both Riktor and Sylas emerged from the carriage, stepping down as they looked around. Mya was the last one to emerge, a slight smile on her face as she stepped down, looking at the boys as they stood behind their father.

"This is the Red Keep?" Riktor said as Saera patted his head, "Hm...not as impressive as Harrenhal."

Drakken crossed his arms, "It's adequate."

"I like home better." Riktor said with a nod

"Agreed." Drakken said

"This is where I grew up, Riktor." Saera said with a smile, "I am a Princess after all."

Riktor looked up at her, "Hm."

"Mother!" Maegelle said as she stepped forward, "Father! I....I am glad you've accepted my request to come...."

Alysanne took a step forward but stopped, seeing Drakken's serious face, "M-Maegelle...." She said softly, "Saera.....I am glad that the two of you are here.....I've missed you."

Jaehaerys cleared his throat, "Daughters." He said, "We have been expecting you. There is a feast being arranged for you as we speak, I trust that you will accept."

Maegelle looked at Drakken, "You know what to do." She said, "Drakken...."

Drakken raised his arm, "Tch...." He said with a serious scowl, "Fine...."

Suddenly, two figures burst out from the walls and flew right into his arm, swirling into it as they exerted a slight pressure.

There were the Ghostwyrms that Drakken had haunting the Red Keep for months, terrorizing both Targaryens and others in there.

"Thank you." Maegelle said softly,

"Let us be at peace for today..."
