Chapter 77 - 77: Unagi.

"Here we have a statue of Avatar Kyoshi. She made it herself using Earthbending, and since then, it has hardly changed. No matter the weather, it doesn't look weathered.

The birds don't leave their waste nearby either, all because of the Avatar's spiritual remnant aura," said Saori, the girl guiding Katara and Aang through the Kyoshi Warrior Complex. She pointed excitedly to the aforementioned statue.

The large statue stood in a large, well-kept garden. Since Kyoshi was over two meters tall, the life-size statue was quite imposing. Even Aang looked like a child in front of his predecessor.

"Many people have wanted to go inside to see it. We used to allow interested people to get close, but since certain stories became popular, there have been weird people in the world coming here... they don't care that it's a statue," Saori explained somewhat reluctantly, remembering some unpleasant incidents from the past.

Many people, especially men, started to behave strangely when standing in front of Kyoshi's image. A couple of them even wanted to lick the statue's feet. This caused the entrance for curious tourists to be definitively forbidden.

Incidentally, the author of those books was among those people. When this became known, he was banned from the island indefinitely. However, sales of his works were not banned because the Kyoshi Warriors knew it would be impossible to avoid them. Instead, they opted to make an extra profit.

"Wow..." Aang didn't know how to respond to Saori's words, so he focused on the image of his past life. Soon, his eyes glowed with white light.

The light spread through his tattoos, and his body rose as a cumulus of wind swirled around him, holding him up. Katara had to turn away from Aang at that moment. The spiritual pulse released by the Avatar state spread throughout the world.

Alarmed by the situation, Sokka and Suki approached. Upon arrival, however, they noticed the absence of danger and relaxed as they watched a ghostly figure materialize in front of Kyoshi's statue.

It was the spirit of the Avatar, who had appeared in the spirit world. She gave the warriors bearing her name a glance. They had surrounded the place in no time, which caused her to crack a smile.

"My girls, you seem to be doing well," Kyoshi's powerful voice spread throughout the venue. Except for those present, the rest of the people didn't understand what was happening or where the words were coming from.

"Yes, Avatar Kyoshi. We have never wavered in our duty," Suki replied. She approached the Avatar, knelt in front of her, and let the wind caused by the current that kept Aang floating ruffle her hair. The warrior didn't flinch.

"I've seen it all, Suki. I'm always watching them," Kyoshi replied with a smile before narrowing her eyes and looking at Sokka, who shivered under the powerful woman's gaze.

"Hunter, I hope you won't lead my daughter to her death. If you're going to prove yourself and survive, you'll have my blessing." Kyoshi's gaze was no small thing. Sokka had the sudden urge to kneel, but resisted, releasing all his impulse to fight against the Avatar's impulse.

It was virtually useless; how could a mortal compare to the embodiment of balance? But Sokka's resistance made the Avatar's green eyes glow with approval.

"I like your resolve. You said you had a special technique to demonstrate? I'll be watching your hunt." With that, the Avatar took one last look at the women who made up his warriors, and soon, his figure faded away.

However, Aang remained in the Avatar state because, after Kyoshi left the earthly world, something tugged at the young man's consciousness and pulled him into a strange scenario in which he saw a series of disjointed images.

He saw a city covered in ice and bloodstains. He heard screams of pain and the laughter of a woman accompanied by the cawing of a crow. Finally, he saw that the moon was tinged with red. He quickly understood that this was a kind of vision; it wasn't seeing the future, but rather a way of knowing things related to himself.

When the visions ended, his body descended to the earth and stopped glowing. Although he felt dizzy from assuming the Avatar state, Katara quickly supported him, making the young man smile.

"Sokka, it seems your mother-in-law is more than you can handle," Aang joked, making Sokka's face turn red with embarrassment, especially at the warrior's laughter.

"It's creepy knowing your past life is watching you, you know? Wait a minute..." Sokka was about to tell a joke when he was interrupted by a thought that suddenly came to him.

"Aang, aren't you technically my father-in-law?" The hunter's abrupt question plunged the atmosphere into an eerie silence. Everyone seemed to hear a woman's distant sigh, though it seemed to be more of a collective hallucination.

"Don't you have a giant eel to hunt?" Katara put her hands on her hips and scowled at her brother, causing Sokka to nod.

"Oh, sure. I'll do it tomorrow," he replied easily, as if the level of danger involved in performing such a task didn't bother him at all.

"Shouldn't you prepare a strategy or something?" asked Saori. Sokka just waved his hand in a carefree manner. With a smile full of confidence, he pointed at himself with his thumb.

"Isn't it obvious? If I had to face Unagi, I would win." His tone seemed to convince the others, though Suki looked at Sokka with concern.

She decided to trust Sokka, though, because he seemed quite confident.

...

'It's bigger than I thought,' Sokka thought as he watched the enormous creature tower over the open sea, roaring in a declaration of sovereignty.

Sokka and Suki were the only ones on the beach. As a precaution, a perimeter had been set up to prevent unauthorized people from approaching and to avoid accidentally injuring any civilians.

The gigantic creature had black and brown scales with golden tones. Its head had whiskers resembling a dragon's, and a large fin bristled completely on its neck. A series of spikes descended its vertebrae, giving it an even more menacing appearance.

Its blue eyes, like a pair of sapphires, were fixed on the two small humans in the distance, brazenly releasing their bloodlust toward the ruler of these seas.

Unagi was intelligent, and it was this sensitivity that made it aware of its power, without defeat, without opponents. Even the hard objects that sometimes encroached on its territory offered it appeasements, unwilling to seek its wrath.

Unagi ruled here! However, two small shrimp dared to threaten it. This was intolerable, so Unagi opened its jaws and showed its fangs in a threatening gesture.

"Looks like it's inviting us to fight," said Sokka to Suki, who seemed to be reevaluating all the decisions that had led her to this moment.

"Sokka, if I die, I'll haunt you as a ghost forever," Suki threatened. The boy beside her only winked at her before assuming a fighting stance.

"The fact that you want to spend time with me, even if you die, shows me your love, my precious. Come on!" The chi circulated through Sokka's body, and his body swelled slightly. In a blur of motion, he disappeared from the beach.

Suki shook her head and joined him. The two young warriors ran through the sea, angering Unagi, who shot water out of its mouth in one of its basic attacks.

A large amount of water erupted from its body in an attempt to crush them, but they easily evaded the attack. It was too slow and too focused.

Unagi had only ever faced ships or creatures of its size. It had no real experience against beings smaller than one of its scales.

Suki carried a pair of metal, gold-painted fans. Though she felt they were a poor choice of weapon against such a massive creature, she knew how to use them.

As Shisui had discovered earlier, directing chi directly towards an object seemed to be an unnecessary waste of energy. However, humans always found a way. If he, a Sage, created chi motes, what methods did others employ? The Kyoshi warriors were one of the most innovative groups in this regard.

They already knew martial arts and Chi, but the 'seeds' spread by Shisui catalyzed everything, giving rise to the technique Suki demonstrated when she approached the giant creature's body.

A whitish glow of energy arose from her fans. They did not cover it; they simply flowed over it without adhering. Just as water takes on the shape of the vessel it is put into, Suki's Chi took on the appearance of a crescent moon. With a couple of gestures, she shot these arcs toward Unagi's scales.

The giant beast cried out in pain as the chi pierced its scales and impacted its flesh. Unagi had been hurt before, but the Chi was the cause of much of the damage, even if Suki's actions were trifles in comparison to its size.

This was the energy that served as the engine of everything, after all! The wounds looked like mere scrapes, but the bleeding was so much that it covered the sea in red. Even from a distance, you could see how the water was increasingly tinged with crimson.

Avoiding Unagi's pigtail, Suki looked at Sokka, who had chosen a different path. Rather than trying to wear the beast down, she climbed up its body and ran down its length to its head.

Unagi flailed, trying to throw Suki off, but she clung to one of its scales with her free hand. Realizing it was better to take care of the other shrimp, Unagi attacked Suki with jets of water, widening the attack area further this time.

"I can't let her do all the work," Sokka thought, noticing that Unagi's focus wasn't on him. He gritted his teeth and allowed the Chi to further enhance his body despite the pain.

'Luckily, I asked Shisui how to power up without any problems.' Sokka appreciated his insight in asking the sage many questions about fighting and laughed at his wisdom.

'Well, it's time, Zhao. Here's what awaits you if I find the opportunity.' Sokka focused his energy on his feet, jumped hard, and rose several tens of meters above Unagi's head. He placed his boomerang on his back and clutched his spear with both hands.

The creature raised its head, seeming to notice an imminent source of danger. This exposed it to an attack from Suki, who made two new cuts close to the beast's neck. It screamed in pain.

With Unagi distracted, Sokka smiled through gritted teeth while guiding much of his ki to his spear. The bone weapon changed in his hand as if connecting directly to its user. With this, Sokka controlled the flow of energy, directing it to the tip where it changed.

'If I could have done this, I wouldn't have been hurt by a Firebender. If I had more power, I could protect my tribe better. I'm not a Waterbender like my sister. I'm not a Sage. I'm not the Avatar. But... Who says I can't be water? I am Sokka of the Southern Water Tribe!

I am... I am my spear! I am a maelstrom!' The chi, in its white splendor, began to swirl and spread on the tip of Sokka's spear, following his thoughts.

A four-meter-long spear made of chi began to rotate, causing gusts of wind. It slowly fell on Unagi's head. First, it shattered its scales; then, it pierced its flesh; and finally, it smashed into its skull.

After a slight delay, Sokka descended, and the energy spear covered his weapon like a sheath, without interacting with it. Covered in sweat and blood, the bone weapon finally pierced the beast's skull.

The energy dispersed around his body, forming a white whirlwind that rose several meters above him, shattering whatever remained.

Only Sokka's boomerang remained on his back, along with his club. His hands were full of bone fragments that dug into his skin when his spear exploded from an energy overload. He felt extremely exhausted.

Nevertheless, he smiled as Unagi let out its final groan of pain and fell into the sea. He was happy not only because he had completed his hunt but also because he had a feeling that his spear had not abandoned him; rather, he needed a replacement material.

"Unagi's bones are tough. A spear made from them? It should withstand my super mega special technique," Sokka muttered before sitting on Unagi's head, which was a pile of flesh and blood.

By the way, what would the flesh of a giant eel taste like?

AN: Yes, I have a chuni moment writing this, cry about it. Also, my birthday is on Wednesday (11-06-2025 Day, Month, Year, yes, in my country we count dates like that, cry about it x2), just me giving the notices~

Sokka being powerful? Yes. Sukki being powerful too? Hell yes. 'Uh oh, you don't follow the canon' shut up, and cry about it x3.

Additionally, I discovered that Korra's energy Megazord isn't an exclusive ability of Avatars; anyone can do it if they have the power and the chance to reach that point. So... soon, everyone with a Susanoo! HAHAHAHAAHAHAHA! Cry about it x4

And when Suki was captured in the canon, Kyoshi visited her, so Avatar could appear as a spirit in the real earthly world, woooooo!

Why am I too 'rude' today? IDK, I'm happy, lol. Have a good day/night. c:
