"The civilization of this planet is weak; they pose no threat to us." The scouting swarm's report reassured the two Brood generals. Of course, they had no idea that their reconnaissance had only scratched the surface.
"Then let's attack now!" Tasa couldn't wait, already envisioning himself leading the Brood to grow stronger and eventually ruling the entire universe.
From within their organic battleship, they relayed the command to the entire waiting swarm.
On Earth, various nations' satellite feeds captured the unidentified organisms swarming toward the planet. The first casualties were the satellites themselves—shattered into fiery explosions with the slightest impact.
"Damn it! What the hell are these things? Get me in touch with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the superheroes!"
"But, Mr. President, we don't have a direct line to them."
A significant number of Earth's most powerful defenders had left with Garus, leaving the planet at its most vulnerable.
"If only the Superhero Registration Act had gone into effect..." The blaring alarms at the military base left everyone feeling helpless. There was little they could do.
"Mr. President, this is bad! A group of invaders is heading straight for us—we need to get you to safety!"
The attack came too quickly. Many cities had already fallen, leaving only a handful of survivors trembling in underground shelters.
...
Pressing against the protective barrier, Fred stared at the swarm blanketing the sky, utterly stunned. This was clearly another invasion.
He muttered, "I have to go back—Hiro and the others will need me."
Fred had been living in Old San Fransokyo. Just recently, he'd learned that his father was an alien and even had a residence on the Moon. That revelation had kept him buzzing with excitement for days. If his friends knew, they'd be just as shocked. Unfortunately, his dad had strictly forbidden him from telling anyone.
Still, there were too many unanswered questions—who was his mother? And why did he look human?
Reaching into his pocket, Fred pulled out a small, round disc emitting soft blue pulses of light—a portable wormhole generator he had "borrowed" from his father. It could transport him directly back to Earth.
"Oh right, I need my gear." Just before activating the wormhole, Fred rushed to a nearby room and donned his monster suit.
With a click, the generator expanded, revealing its core. A beam of light shot out, opening a swirling portal two meters away. The other end connected directly to his Old San Fransokyo villa.
The moment Fred stepped through, he was met with chaos. The sky was dark, filled with explosions. Towering buildings crumbled under the assault of massive creatures.
Aliens had invaded before, but they had never reached here.
"Let's see what's going on."
Pulling out his phone, he tried to access the internet, but it was useless.
"Right... The satellites are down. Damn it."
"Hey, Fred! Where have you been?"
A familiar voice made him turn—Hiro!
The young genius descended from the sky atop Baymax, his suit splattered with glowing green goo.
With a grimace, Hiro wiped at the gunk on his suit. "Fred, I don't know why, but suddenly, there are bugs everywhere! The others are out rescuing people. And for some reason, none of the really strong superheroes have shown up."
This time, the attack lacked many of the usual heroes defending the cities. And it had begun as a global assault, causing devastating casualties worldwide.
"Well, aren't we superheroes? We're Big Hero 6! Oh yeah!" Fred roared, leaping dozens of meters into the air, heading straight for the smoke-filled city.
"Wait for me, Fred!" Hiro quickly climbed onto Baymax. "Baymax, let's help the people in danger!"
"Understood, Hiro," Baymax replied as his thrusters ignited.
With a loud buzz, a massive insect, the size of a car, flew toward Fred, its razor-sharp mandibles glinting ominously.
"Boom!" Fred leaped up, spewing a large burst of fire. The flames engulfed the creature's wings, setting them ablaze.
Watching the burning bug fall, Fred grinned. "Too easy! I could take these things down all by myself."
"Look out!" A flaming metal fist struck Fred, knocking him aside.
Just as he was about to complain, he saw the massive insect rapidly extinguish its flames, leaving a crater where he had just stood. It turned, preparing to charge again.
Hiro shouted from the side, "These bugs are hard to kill! Their exoskeletons are incredibly tough!"
Crashing through several buildings, the enraged bug charged toward them again. With its limited intelligence, it was furious that its "food" dared to fight back.
"Boom!" A mysterious spherical object struck the creature, exploding into a red mist that enveloped it. A shadow flickered through the fog, and a glowing blue energy blade sliced through the bug, cutting it clean in half.
"Honey Lemon! Wasabi!" Fred cheered before glancing around. "Wait, where's Go Go?"
"She was worried about her parents and left to check on them. Fred, weren't you on vacation? How'd you get back so fast?"
"Uh..." Fred scratched his head, unsure whether to reveal the truth.
"Guys, can we focus? Old San Fransokyo needs us!" Wasabi dodged another insect attack with a quick sidestep.
The swarm kept coming, blanketing the sky. Many civilians had already been devoured whole.
They had never witnessed such devastation before. It was overwhelming.
Fighting together, they managed to take down several Brood creatures. But then, a deafening roar echoed from above. Military jets streaked across the sky, the government forces arriving at last.
Moments later, blue energy blasts tore through the air. The jets exploded into fireballs, reduced to scattered debris.
"Uhh, it looks like our government can't handle these invaders. Where's the Mutant Academy? We need their help!" Most people believed the planet's strongest warriors were the numerous mutants.
"They're not on Earth right now," Fred said grimly, remembering the floating city he had seen on the Moon.
