Chapter 37 - The Merchant Part 1 CP 36

The Capital – Eastern Side

They all exit the arena and head toward the carriage.

Kalira speaks as they walk.

Kalira: Are we going now?

Limty: What do you mean?

Kalira: I mean to that merchant.

Limty: Yes, we're heading there, but we need to know the merchant's location first.

Lim joins the conversation.

Lim: What are you talking about? We'll find him in his usual place.

Limty: It's been a long time, maybe he changed his location.

Lim: That damned merchant would never do that. Even if he did, he'd lose his customers.

Torans speaks with a tone of surprise.

Torans: Wait, why are you talking like he sells something good?

Isn't he smuggling criminals from the prisons?

Lim: So your friend is also a criminal? Right?

Torans: Well, some people didn't do anything wrong either.

Lim: Why are you backing down from your words, you chicken?

Kalira: So, is Okays a criminal too? But he didn't do anything. He just wanted to cross the wall.

Lim: When you talk about it, it sounds so simple,

but what you don't know is: if humans find out that some beasts have left the wall and entered their world,

this might reignite the war.

Limty: That's true. That's why trying to cross the wall means execution.

Kalira: But what if humans have changed? What if they no longer hate beasts?

Silence falls over everyone.

Torans: Kalira, you're still too young to understand this,

but let me tell you something: humans? Strange creatures.

When they see something that doesn't resemble them, they dislike it.

Humans have limited thinking, they're not like us.

They don't live long either, but they always seek control and dominance over others.

Humans think simply, and that this land belongs to them,

and no other creature has the right to live on it.

Kalira: But didn't the war start because of the minister Rees?

Torans: I didn't say beasts are different from them,

but what separates us is that we live for a long time and we change over time.

Kalira: Maybe they've changed too.

Limty: Listen to me, girl. Everyone may change, but humans never will.

Lim: You talk like you didn't want to cross the wall before.

Limty: Shut up, you idiot.

Kalira: Whaaat? You wanted to cross the wall too?

Limty: Forget it. It was a foolish move from me.

Kalira: Tell me, what happened?

Lim: The same thing that happened to you. It's that idiot.

Kalira: Who?

Limty: White. He did the same thing he did to you, and he took Lim with him,

and he threw me off the wall. I fell in the same place where you both landed.

Kalira: Didn't you try again?

Limty: I gave up on that idea a long time ago.

Lim: Come on, we've reached the carriage. Everyone, get in.

The weather's going to get hot soon, let's reach quickly.

Lim begins driving the carriage, and everyone sits in the back.

Limty: This is really strange, winter isn't far away,

why is the noon this hot?

Torans: So, what will you do after we get Okays out of prison?

Limty: We'll continue our usual path, hunting beasts here and there.

Lim (quietly): But I hope that loneliness doesn't return to you.

Kalira: No, you won't be alone. I'll be with you.

Limty: Thank you, little one.

Kalira: Why don't you both come with us?

Limty: Go where?

Kalira: We're leaving the walls.

Limty: Haven't you given up on that idea yet?

Kalira: Why should we? We can try again.

Maybe we didn't succeed the first time, but we will next time.

Limty (laughs): And how will you defeat White then?

Kalira: I'll become strong. And Okays is strong too,

but White betrayed him when he was at the top.

Limty: You seem to trust your friend a lot.

Also, you didn't talk much about him. When did you meet? When did you get to know each other?

Kalira: Not long ago.

Limty: I thought you were childhood friends or something like that.

Kalira: Why are you changing the subject? You're coming with us, aren't you?

Lim: Little one, is your friend stronger than me?

Kalira: I don't know, but he's strong.

Lim: If he wants to defeat White, he must be a hundred times stronger than me.

Limty: Kalira, listen to me. Get rid of that idea.

When we get your friend out, just go far away from here and hide.

Kalira: No, I won't do that. We're leaving the wall.

Lim: This stubborn little girl.

Torans: It's okay. That boy can cross.

Limty: I thought you were the one who thinks a little, Torans.

But why are you siding with them on this crazy idea?

Torans: I'm not siding with them,

but that boy can do it. After all, he's the "Fifth Descendant."

Limty: What is this Fifth Descendant?

Torans: Don't mind it. It's nothing.

But if your desire to leave here is still inside you, you can come with us.

Lim: This is madness! You chicken, are you telling me that boy can defeat White?

And he can cross over there?

Torans: I don't know. But I trust him.

Kalira: Yes, I trust him too.

Limty (sighs): This is so exhausting. Alright, we'll talk about this later.

Lim continues driving for a while, and they reach the center of the capital.

The castle begins to appear closer and larger. It's black from the outside and extremely massive,

filled with windows and surrounded by a huge garden full of statues,

all in the shape of beasts, and a massive water fountain in the middle of the garden,

huge decorated iron gates, guards everywhere,

and massive iron walls surrounding the castle.

Kalira: This is amazing! I've never seen a place like this in my life!

Lim: It's the royal castle. Of course, it would be like this.

Kalira: Are we going inside?

Lim: Maybe in your dreams.

Limty: No, we're going around the back. We won't be able to enter from here,

and they wouldn't let us in anyway.

Kalira (her eyes sparkling): How did they build this, really?

Torans: You really act like a child. You forgot everything

the moment this castle appeared.

Lim (laughs): Maybe I should bring some candy with me.

When she gets annoying, I'll give her one.

Kalira (angrily): I'm not a little girl!

Lim: She was smiling like a lunatic just now, and now she's angry.

Limty: Don't mind them, Kalira.

(looks at Lim) Go to the back. Come on, let's finish what we came here for.

Lim: We'll have to bribe a few guards to get down first,

then we meet that sly merchant.

Limty: Do you think that'll work?

Lim: What would change? They're all bastards. They only love money.

Torans: How can a horse say something so right?

Lim: Shut up, you chicken.

They continue driving until they reach the back of the castle.

The carriage stops. It looks like a tunnel that stretches underground,

with two guards standing in front of it.

To be continued...
