Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Chuck and Taffy

Craven sighed heavily as he rubbed his temple, this woman was very exhausting. This was the thirtieth time she had been here in the span of three months, he had told her countless times to go to the right authorities but she simply refused.

In this case the right authorities would be the guards sent by the neighbouring faction.

After the break out of deviants, humans banded into groups and worked together to hunt deviants and protect the people who couldn't protect themselves. The humans who did the valiant task of battling these monsters were called hunters, and their group were called factions.

Usually a faction that was stationed around the area would often send guards to neighboring towns and cities for protection. For the town of Nirei it was a faction called the Vipers.

Every time Craven would tell this woman to go report it to them she would always come back with the same answer, "They wouldn't listen to me."

Craven looked at the woman one more time, then he sighed again with his hands still rubbing his temple.

"Please...i don't know where else to go. She's all I have left, if something happened to her I don't know what I would do." She was fighting to hold her tears but some seem to slip past.

Craven just looked at her, her whole attitude had taken a whole 360 turn now that she needed something. He didn't care about her so naturally her cries didn't really do anything to him, but there was someone else in the room that it did work on.

"Ms. Catherine....." Wyatt was trying his best to fight back his own tears when he heard what she had to say, this happened each and every single time she came, she would say how much her niece meant to her then she and Wyatt would end up in tears.

"We'll find her for you, right Craven?" Wyatt turned to Craven with pleading eyes.

Craven began to rub his temple with so much force that Wyatt was worried a fire would start.

Wyatt was a kind soul despite what he went through as a child, he always tried his best to help. Craven knew this, and that was why he didn't want him to know about this whole case but it was just his luck that Wyatt happened to be there when the woman first came, and he had been to coming to hear what the woman had to say ever since.

After a few more temple rubs and curses under his breath, Craven eventually agreed.

"Fine," Craven slumped on his chair. "But I won't be handlin' it. Wyatt, since yer care so much why don't ya do it. It might be dangerous so take some of the other with ya." Craven said this in the hopes that Wyatt would refuse and he could finally rest. But he clearly underestimated the thirst for adventure a young man possessed.

Wyatt had a huge grin plastered across his face. For the past few months all he had done was train with Craven and sparring matches with everyone else, this was his very first adventure.

Wyatt had his chest proudly puffed out as he turned to Catherine. "Don't worry Ms, I will find your niece for you."

Although Wyatt looked stupid with his chest raised like that, the woman didn't care because she finally got them to find her niece. She thanked Wyatt with so much gratitude then when she turned to Craven. "Hmm, I guess your not entirely useless, even though you look like you are."

Craven was tempted to call off the whole thing right there and then, but the feeling he got when he looked at Wyatt's happy face surpassed the feeling of hate he felt whenever he even so much as looked at Catherine's general direction.

With everything sorted out Craven began to push Catherine out, claiming that they would contact her if they found anything and that she shouldn't bothering coming over.

Craven sighed after she left. "I thought the old hag would never leave."

Wyatt chuckled even thought Craven and Catherine looked to be around the same age, he often wondered how old Craven was.

"Go get Tai, she's really big on mysteries so she should help ya out." Craven said as he went to grab yet another bottle of alcohol. Wyatt was worried the man wouldn't live long if he continued his drinking habit.

After meeting up and explaining the whole situation with Tai, the latter was excited to help. Just as Craven had said, she was really in love with all things mystery.

They agreed to meet after a few minutes, Tai said she wanted to get a few things.

Wyatt had been standing in front of the base for a while now, he and Tai had agreed to meet here earlier so they could start looking for Tracy the missing niece, Wyatt had gotten her from her aunt Catherine. He wondered what on earth was holding Tai this long.

After waiting for a few more minutes, he soon saw the boys he beat up in the town earlier today. But they weren't alone, before they were about twelve, but this time Wyatt could at least twenty of them at a glance.

He wasn't an idiot, he knew they where here to get revenge on him, what he didn't expect was that they would stupidly march all the way to the base, weren't they afraid that the dark bulls would kick their arses if they came looking for trouble.

As they got closer Wyatt noticed a few things, first of all this wasn't the group of boys he beat up, the guy with the scar on his chin was there but no one else from the previous group was there.

Secondly, some boys from this group were wearing deviant gear. Deviant gear wasn't easy to get because they required the core of a deviant to be made, and the only ones who normally wore deviant gear were hunters.

"There he is big bro, there's the guy that hurt me and my boys." The guy with the chin scar pointed at Wyatt immediately they were in hearing distance. He had a smug look on his face.

Wyatt was right, they came for revenge.

"Shut up, Taffy." The man in the middle said, prompting the other man with the scar to shut up immediately. The man in the middle then looked at Wyatt, scanning him from head to toe.

"Taffy," The man in the middle called out the scarred man, and immediately the latter came within reach he received a hard slap across his face. This action confused Wyatt, he assumed they were on the same side.

"You mean to tell me that this scrawny little sh*t beat up you and your friends," he sounded irritated. "Look at him, he looks like he's f*cking fifteen."

Wyatt knew it was best to keep his mouth shut, the man in the middle looked really strong, it would best not to piss him off. He was wearing a red chest piece and boots, all deviant gear.

"Big bro, you don't understand-" Taffy tried to explain but he was cut short by another member of the boys.

"Hey chuck, don't be so hard on him. Just look at how intimidating the other guy is, I don't even think we can beat him." A man with a shield on his back mocked, prompting everyone, even chuck, to laugh at poor Taffy.

"Taffy, the next time you come to me to complain about someone so weak, I'll disown you." These words caused Taffy visible distress, this wasn't the first time his brother had threatened to disown him, and his brother was a man of his words.

"Now," Chuck turned to Wyatt. "I don't know why my brother made me call my boys when I could easily kill you myself. But I'm a fair person so I'll give you a chance, so tell me why the hell did you touch my brother?" He held Wyatt by his collar and lifted him off the ground.

Wyatt didn't answer, although he was scared he also knew he was doomed no matter what he said, he had already prepared himself for a beating, his only worry was the deviant gear they were wearing.

"Oh, so you don't want to answer? Too bad, I really was gonna give you a chance to explain." Chuck said as he prepared to punch Wyatt, but they were interrupted by a sweet feminine voice.

"Hey, sorry I'm late I couldn't find my magnifying glass." Tai said as she stepped out. "Oh, you didn't tell me you had friends." She smiled as she looked at of them, her eyes focused on the man holding Wyatt by his collar.
