Chapter 29 - Glowing Names and Growing Shadows

November 3rd,

I used to think being chosen meant being celebrated.

Now I know—it means being targeted.

Classes were quiet that morning. Too quiet.

Even the breeze felt suspicious, whispering secrets down the hostel corridors. Something had shifted again in the spirit.

After our encounter at the hostel chapel, word had spread. Not the full story, but enough to make people glance sideways when I passed. Some with awe. Others with fear.

But none dared to speak—except for one.

Isaiah.

He met us at the chapel building just as we stepped out from our morning devotion. There was something urgent about his expression. His usually calm demeanor was wound tight.

"Sandra. Tony. Anita. We need to talk."

Inside the chapel, he shut the door behind us.

"The fellowship council met last night," he began, voice low. "There's been… unrest. And the president believes the spiritual warfare on campus is escalating."

Anita folded her arms. "We figured."

"No," Isaiah said. "You don't understand. A scroll appeared in the chapel prayer room last night."

My heart stopped. "Like the one we saw in that encounter?"

He nodded. "This time… there were names on it. Glowing names."

Tony leaned in. "Whose names?"

Isaiah pulled out his phone and showed us a blurry photo.

But I didn't need it to be clear—because the first glowing name was mine.

SANDRA.

Then: ANITA.

Then: TONY.

And lastly: MAYUMI.

For a moment, the silence was deafening.

"It means we're marked," Anita finally said, her voice shaking slightly.

"Or chosen," I countered. "Marked for a purpose."

Later that evening, Anita pulled me aside.

"Sandra… I saw something in a dream last night. A seer vision."

I turned to her. Her eyes were misty, wide.

"It was us. In the chapel. But someone… one of the students we trust… betrayed us. And it wasn't just spiritual. It was set up — like someone wanted us disbanded."

I frowned. "Did you see their face?"

She hesitated. "No… just a symbol on their wrist. A half-moon with a line through it."

"Could be connected to Darrey… or something bigger," I murmured.

Just then, my phone buzzed.

A text.

From an unknown number.

"Stay out of what doesn't concern you. You're not safe anymore."

I stared at it, unmoving.

Anita peeked over my shoulder.

"Looks like the shadows are talking again."

I smiled, but it didn't reach my eyes.

"Then let's make some noise of our own."

***

Glowing names. Shadow threats. And a vision of betrayal.

But I will not run. I was born for this.

This fire?

It burns on.
