The door creaked open, and Marissa stepped inside. From the way she moved, stiff and hesitant, I could tell she was scared. Good. She should be. After what she did to me, I had no intention of letting it slide.
"My lady… you're awake?" she said with a nervous smile that disappeared almost as fast as it came. She knew what she had done. And I wasn't about to pretend I didn't.
"No, I'm asleep, you fool," I snapped and grabbed the nearest pillow. I flung it at her with everything I had. My aim was perfect—old skills from Everia never left, even though Lady Poria had tried to beat them out of me with endless chores.
Marissa caught the pillow, but her knees hit the floor. "Forgive me, my lady," she said quickly. "I'm sorry."
"I beg your pardon?" I raised a brow. Her apology only made my anger boil hotter. "You almost got me killed. Was it Queen Fortuna? Did she send you?"
