I didn't knock.

No need to.

This room—the one where that human sleeps—is far from ours. And yet, my steps led me here, as if my body moved on its own.

The door was unlocked.

Of course it was.

She was too tired to care and far too careless. Tiny mistakes that could cost her life.

I made sure no one was watching before I slipped inside. The sound of the door closing behind me was barely a whisper.

Her hair was a mess, some strands sticking to her cheek. Her breathing was steady… peaceful… foolishly peaceful for a human who just came out of a bloody negotiation arena with another nation.

So innocent.

So reckless.

So… too kind.

I stood by her bedside, silent. Just watching.

It took a while for me to realize my hand had moved on its own.

Then slowly… it reached out to touch her cheek.

Her skin was warm and soft.

She had no idea someone was here. She felt no danger, even with a creature like me mere inches from her face.

Is this what they call… trust?
