The mirror is silent as I study myself in it, but the woman staring back is anything but. She is layered in power, danger, and silk sharp enough to draw blood. The black gown I wear flows like shadow, laced with spells so old even the gods have forgotten their names. Armor disguised as elegance. The runes along my collarbone glow faintly beneath sheer fabric, pulsing with wards that will burn through any curse hurled my way tonight.
I lift my hand. My gloves are soft velvet but the enchantments woven into them could choke a demon if need be. Celeste fastens my earrings—dark opals flecked with silver veins. Each piece, every thread, has been chosen like one chooses weapons before battle. Nothing about tonight is just fashion. It's strategy wrapped in beauty.
Behind me, Vespera adjusts the hem of my dress. "You'll silence them the moment you enter."
I like Vespera. I think she would make a great addition to my circle although Celeste is still very weary of her.
