Chapter 10 - Down Into the Nightmare

Gone was the magic that lured the pale princess. There was no more light, and the tranquillity that had surrounded her laughter when she played just a few minutes ago. The forest was now dark, a shadow hovering over her with madness going along with it. Without receiving any response from the maid, Princess Maria Blanca began to panic, dashing away confusedly and farther from where she was just playing.

Unschooled and too innocent about the outside world, the pale princess of Erdestea was running around, only leading to a dead-end of thick trees and rocks. Her heart was pounding hard on her chest, and her mind began to wander out and about, blurring all her senses as she slowly lost grip of her sanity.

She called out to the maid—

There was nothing.

She called out again, running towards more trees whose claw-like branches shredded her light lavender dress—

Again, there was no response echoed.

She now cried, letting those heavy tears flow down from her pale cheeks and the red blood gushing out from her fresh cuts, and still called out to the maid with her cracking voice—

Sadly, not a response.

Maria Blanca continued to run until the beading sweat on her brow was now like pearls and cold to the touch. Those wicked trees continued to tear her lovely dress and nipped her skin until she became a broken doll, frightened to see the horrors of the outside world she was just acquainted with.

Oh, how cruel the forest was to her. Instead of woodland creatures to soothe her anxiety, unknown voices manifested all of a sudden and started to taunt her and laugh at her misery. That was the haunting sound, a wicked music, that resonated on hither-thither, screeching into her ears like a wild bat. Poor Maria Blanca was too distraught and desperate to find her way out so she could return to the palace. However, destiny led her farther and farther, making her soul go weak until her feet betrayed her, tumbling down a hill and into a stream of water where she finally lost consciousness, dreaming of the same darkness that dispelled her warmth and her spirit.
