Byakuya slowly stood, brushing blood from his mouth with the back of his hand.
Ichigo stopped a few feet away, Zangetsu resting on his shoulder.
The silence between them was heavy.
"…Why?" Byakuya muttered, his voice low.
Ichigo blinked. "What?"
Byakuya's eyes narrowed—not with anger, but something deeper. A frustration that had been simmering quietly until now.
"Why… do you stand there… and act as if you understand what this fight means?"
His reiatsu began to swirl, agitated and raw.
Fwooom…
"I am the head of the Kuchiki Clan," he said, voice growing louder. "A noble family with centuries of tradition. I carry their name, their expectations. Their laws. I live not for myself—but for order. For honor."
Ichigo's expression hardened, but he didn't speak yet.
Byakuya continued.
"I hated the law that sentenced Rukia to death. But it was law. And as head of my clan… as a captain… I could not bend it. If I broke it once for emotion, I would break it again. And then what would remain?"
His reiatsu flared, petals rising like a vortex around him.
"I sacrificed my feelings. My hesitation. My humanity. I gave it all up to protect the structure of Soul Society."
His voice cracked slightly.
"I even vowed… to never cry again."
Ichigo's eyes widened faintly.
Byakuya's knuckles clenched around his hilt.
"And yet you… a boy who's barely been a Soul Reaper for months… you charge in, wielding raw strength and defiance as if they are righteousness. You mock centuries of duty. You call it weakness to follow the law."
He raised Senbonzakura again. His breathing was ragged—but his resolve had sharpened to a razor edge.
"I will not allow myself to be defeated by someone like you."
Ichigo finally spoke. His voice was steady—but serious.
"…You think I fight for pride?"
He took a step forward. Reiatsu rolling off him in waves.
"I don't give a damn about Soul Society's laws. Or noble houses. I'm fighting because Rukia deserves to live. Because I made a vow—to myself."
He pointed Zangetsu at Byakuya's chest.
"You buried your heart in duty, and now you use it to hide from your guilt."
A long pause.
"You're not wrong for loving your code… but you are wrong for letting it replace the people you care about."
Byakuya's eyes trembled for the briefest moment.
Then—
FWOOOM!!
His reiatsu exploded, rising high into the sky. The blades around them trembled, shining brighter, sharper.
Ichigo tightened his grip. "So now you're serious."
Byakuya's tone dropped low, voice ice.
"I will bury my doubt… in your blood."
WHSSSHHH!!!
He vanished—shunpō!—and the duel resumed with a BOOM, both clashing mid-air.
CLANG—CRASH—CLANG!
But the emotion was different now.
No longer just swords. Now it was two beliefs—colliding. Two souls—clashing.
[A/N: Damn I'm cooking 🔥]
CLANG—BOOOM—SSHHHRRRACK!!!
Their blades collided again and again, each impact cracking the stone beneath their feet. The dome of floating blades around them trembled, several shattering from the force of their clashing reiatsu.
FWOOOM!
A shockwave blasted outward, warping the air like heat waves, and tearing up the ground. Cracks spiderwebbed across the stone platform. Towering walls crumbled in the distance. Even the air felt like it could collapse at any moment.
Byakuya launched forward, three swords in hand, the rest of the Senkei whirling like a galaxy behind him.
SSHHING—FWSHHH—FWSHHH!!
He slashed downward. Ichigo blocked it, sparks raining between them—
Then Ichigo's voice rang out, calm and deadly.
"Getsuga…"
Byakuya's eyes widened. "No—!"
"TENSHŌ!!!"
BWOOOOOOM!!!
A crescent wave of black-and-blue reiryoku exploded from Zangetsu's edge, devouring the space in front of Ichigo. It roared like a beast let loose—ripping apart the stone, the air, even the light itself.
Byakuya braced—and was blasted backward, blood streaking the air.
KA-KRAAAAAAK!!
The entire battlefield shook. Dozens of his swords were instantly destroyed, shattered into glowing shards. A wave of dust and rubble rose like a tidal wave behind Byakuya as he tumbled across the wreckage.
BOOM—BOOM—BOOOOM!
Cracks shot up nearby buildings. Trees bent from the wind pressure. Distant Soul Reapers far from the fight turned their heads, shocked by the tremor that shook the Seireitei.
Ichigo landed hard, breathing out steam, his shirt torn, chest rising and falling with power. His eyes glowed fiercely.
But Byakuya wasn't done.
From the swirling remains of his Bankai, he raised his hand—and every remaining blade in the Senkei shot forward.
WHSSHHHHHHHH—!
A hurricane of razor-sharp steel, coming at Ichigo from all sides.
He gripped Zangetsu with both hands, dragging it back, eyes locked on the center.
"…You want all of it?"
ZzzzZZZZZHHMMMMMMM—!!!
His reiatsu pulsed, black lightning arcing along the blade.
"I'll give it to you."
He swung.
"GETSUGA—TENSHŌ!!!"
BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!
The sky split.
The wave surged out, massive—obliterating every sword in its path, tearing through Byakuya's final assault like it was paper. The ground beneath it was erased, leaving a deep trench where stone once was. The air ignited with reishi and heat.
Byakuya's eyes went wide as the attack surged toward him.
"…!"
He raised his sword—but the light engulfed him.
KA-KRRAAAAKOOOOMMM!!!
A column of energy erupted into the sky, like a black sun being born.
When it faded…
Silence.
Rubble fell. A faint wind blew through the broken landscape.
The entire Senkei was gone. Just gone. The battlefield looked like a crater hit by a meteor.
Standing in the middle…
Ichigo, holding Zangetsu low. His breathing was steady. His body bruised, but healing. His eyes sharp.
Across from him, kneeling amidst the shattered stone…
Byakuya. Sword broken in half. Chest rising and falling with ragged, disbelieving breaths. His pride in ruins. His world—shattered.
Ichigo didn't gloat. He just watched.
Because in that moment, nothing more needed to be said.
