"RUN! THE BARRIER IS GOING TO BREAK!!"
An imminent sense of doom filled the air around me and Lola
"What are you doing?! Get out of there!!" Lola screamed at Kamile, leaning over the edge with a strained voice.
We could hear cracks coming from the barricaded entrance door, each seemed louder than the last. Just after Kamile began to move away from the entrance, when a hand stuck out from the opposite side of the entrance. Almost like a sign of an imminent disaster, everything became eerily quiet for a few seconds. The hand which had broken through retracted.
All 3 of us were surprised, Kamile stopped running before Lola broke the silence "WHY ARE YOU UST STANDIN-" Lola's words were disrupted with the entire right side of the barricade breaking down. Swarms of zombies were gushing in.
Everything happened before I could even do anything. Kamile reflexively began to run, dropping her bag immediately. "MOM!!" Lola screamed at the top of her lungs with tears in her eyes.
She began running to the stairs to the bottom floor to meet her mother before I grabbed her hand "We have to run!"
Lola swatted my hand away "How could you just leave her like that?!"
I gritted my teeth "You'll die if you go after her!"
With tears in her eyes, Lola screamed at me "I DON'T CARE!" Before running off.
I didn't have time to try to stop her anymore. I quickly ran up the stairs to the third story where I had left my bag with everything that I needed.
Immediately, I began searching for a way to escape, running back down to the second story, the zombies noticed me and without a second to waste, began chasing me.
*Could Kamile and Lola already be...* No, this wasn't the time for that. I ran back up to the third story in the opposite direction, hoping I'd find a way to escape.
Hearing the zombies running up the stairs, my efforts for escape became more desperate, until I found myself in the place where I had been walking around late in the night. The glass above gave me an idea. I ran into the hardware store looking for a hammer.
Surprisingly quickly I ran out the store, hammer in hand. I put my bag on the group and took up 2 thick wood posts and leaned them against the wall, holding against a crevice in the wall, I stood up the posts, though they wobbled as I slowly stood up. I could, barely, reach the window with my hammer, I turned the hammer to its claw.
I swung once; nothing happened. I swung again and a sound could be heard, and with the third swing, a spiderweb crack appeared. I jumped off the posts and put on my bag and a nearby rag I noticed besides my bag on my face .
I quickly went over to the posts, trying to climb them proved to be extraordinarily more difficult than before, the additional weight made it nearly impossible to stand up without falling over. I heard the zombies approaching, and fast. As a last-ditch effort, I threw the hammer against the nearly shattered glass and to my surprise, the glass shattered instantly.
I quickly turned my face down and covered the back of my head with my arms, the glass left quite a lot of cuts on both of my arms. Still, I had to get out of here, I took off my bag and threw it with all my strength to the roof, it fell. I tried a second time, it fell again. Just as I was about to leave my bag behind, I attempted to throw it one more time, to my relief, it stayed on the roof, I could see the bag was unstable and even the wind could push it back, I had to get to the roof ASAP.
I quickly readjusted the posts before grabbing the crevice with my left hand and pushed myself up. To my horror I could already see the zombies at the end of the hallway; when I glanced at the zombies, the post under my right foot slipped.
Somehow, the post under my left foot felt a bit more secure with it being the only thing holding me up, still, I had no choice but to act now. I glanced up and saw a large support column against near the ceiling which had a huge indent going across its entire length.
Without a second though, I pushed against the wall with my left hand whilst releasing the grip from the crevice and slightly jumped from the post and reached my right hand as much as I could for the metal column.
A loud thud sound was heard as my right hand made contact with the column. I quickly grabbed the column with my left hand before my sweaty right hand slipped. The zombies had finally caught up with me, before they could, I pulled both of my legs atop the column.
The zombies extended their flimsy arms in a weak attempt to drag me down, I had to get to the roof, but how? I was upside down and on top of that, in an extraordinarily awkward position.
After struggling for a while to try to, essentially, throw myself around the column, the strength in my arms began to waver. My arms began to tremble, and I wasn't sure if I could hang on with my legs for long. In one last attempt, instead of trying to simply throw myself over, I extended my left arm and tried to grab onto the opposite side of the column. To my surprise, my left arm found a place to hold on to.
I knew I had one attempt to do this; I had no strength left. With all my might, I pulled as hard as I could with my left arm and I pulled myself enough that I could place my right foot where my left arm was before. With one final push from my right hand, I was now sitting upright on the column.
My left hand was throbbing, and I was sweating and exhausted. Still, I couldn't rest with this eerie feeling of zombies being so close to me. One wrong step and it would be over.
I slowly slid myself to the edge of the column, as close as I could to the roof. I slowly stood up, one hand leaning against the wall, the other lightly holding the column. Slowly, I moved my hand from the column to the wall and fully extended my body.
Finally, it was time to grab the rooftop. It was slightly further away than I had imagined but I thought I could grab it if I jumped.
Getting ready to jump, I pulled my hands upwards. Finally, throwing away any doubts I had, I prepared to jump with everything I had, my life on the line.
At last, I jumped. My right hand barely managed to grab a small crevice which was just enough to hold on to. Quickly, I grabbed it with my left hand to lessen the load on my right hand. After taking a deep breath, I leaned slightly to the left and threw my right leg up to the rooftop. Finally, with everything I had left, I threw all of my bodyweight over to the rooftop and barely managed to claw my way up.
Safe at last, a moderate breeze touch my skin, I felt relieved for a few moments.
"Wait, my bag!" I exclaimed in a panic, quickly sitting up and looking for my bag.
To my absolute relief, the bag was still there... wait, is the bag tilting over the edge?
I looked closer, the bag was beggining to tilt over the edge because of the breeze.
Immediately, I dove to catch the bag which was about to fall back to the zombies.
