Chapter 96: Your Killing Curse Really Sucks
Perhaps it was because Aragog was controlled too deeply by Dylan, or perhaps Aragog had some other peculiar trait.
In any case, under Dylan's care, every time Dylan cut him open, Aragog would show a satisfied expression.
This surprised Dylan somewhat.
How did a perfectly good dragon end up being raised by him to gallop wildly in a strange direction...
Could it be because its mind was controlled by the Unforgivable Curses?
Dylan couldn't be sure about this.
Looking at the trapdoor beside the three-headed dog that had already been opened, Dylan saw a path leading deeper underground.
After pondering for a moment, Dylan took out his beautified transparent wizard robes and spent a little money to turn them into an Invisibility Cloak.
Putting it on, he jumped straight down.
But as soon as he entered, vine-like things instantly wrapped around him, trying to ensnare him.
"Devil's Snare, huh."
A shield of flames instantly erupted around Dylan.
—This was just a secondary shaping of Incendio.
The flames blazed fiercely, burning away all the approaching vines. Those that hadn't yet reached him immediately froze their advance and then retreated.
Dylan jumped down unimpeded. The height wasn't too great; he didn't even need to use any spells to avoid getting hurt.
Landing on the ground, Dylan surveyed the environment ahead.
Confirming there were no traps left by Quirrell, he proceeded forward.
Waves of magical energy emanated from somewhere.
Dylan looked up and saw a swarm of keys constantly fluttering their wings, flying randomly back and forth, shimmering with a metallic sheen.
"Professor Flitwick's arrangement, perhaps?"
A smile appeared on Dylan's face.
At this moment, he felt like a student who had learned his craft, break through ing a secret realm set up by his professor.
His fingers twirled lightly, and his wand landed steadily in his palm.
Raising his wand, transparent magical power flowed.
Dylan tilted his head slightly and parted his lips.
"Wingardium Leviosa!"
In an instant, an invisible yet powerful force rapidly spread out, overwhelming, carrying a strong sense of pressure, sweeping towards the flying keys.
Wherever the magic reached, the air seemed to be stirred by an invisible giant hand, rippling with visible layers.
The swarm of keys, darting around haphazardly, as if sensing danger, their originally chaotic flight paths became even more frantic, colliding with each other and emitting crisp "clinking" sounds.
Dylan felt the keys desperately resisting the binding of his magic, and the curve of his lips rose even higher.
Because these keys were fighting against his power, their flight paths became even more disordered. Although they were still darting around everywhere, they were completely unlike their initial lightness.
"Professor Flitwick's spells are truly powerful."
Dylan chuckled softly, raising his wand high. With a flick of his wrist, the wand drew a smooth arc in the air.
"Immobulus!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, an invisible magical force flowed out, spreading gently.
The magic swept across the keys, and the winged flying keys instantly froze in mid-air, as if they had been hit with a Full Body-Bind Curse.
The metallic surfaces of each key reflected a cold light, yet they all hung suspended in the air.
Dylan crossed his arms, his wand hanging casually at his side, his gaze sweeping across the frozen swarm of keys.
"Come here, all of you."
Dylan crooked a finger at the keys, his nonchalant voice sounding. The frozen keys slowly floated towards Dylan, gathering in front of him into a shimmering metallic screen.
Dylan narrowed his eyes slightly, a scrutinizing light in them, examining each key among the dense mass.
Soon, he locked onto the special key—it was older than the other keys, and even though it was bound by his dual spells, it still faintly trembled, as if trying to break free from his control.
"Accio!"
This key immediately "whooshed" through the swarm of keys, landing precisely in Dylan's palm.
Dylan played with the key in his hand and walked to the tightly closed door.
"Defenses of this level, Quirrell could easily bypass, right?"
Dylan curled his lip.
He didn't know if Professor Flitwick had enough confidence in his own setup or what.
In any case, this level could be passed just by playing a flying game.
Dylan really didn't see the difficulty.
He just wanted to feel Professor Flitwick's strength; otherwise, he could have completely blasted the door open.
Coincidentally, he had just learned a variation of a blasting charm—Burst Break.
"Hmm... how about, give it a try?"
Dylan looked at the door in front of him and paused.
After a moment of hesitation, Dylan casually tossed the key into the air.
—Before doing so, he had gently broken half of the key's wing.
At the same time, he released his control over all the keys.
The swarm of flying keys instantly scattered, rushing towards the highest point of the ceiling, each one as if it had seen some terrifying monster, completely don't dare to get close the ground, instead staying far away from Dylan.
Dylan drew his wand, raising his arm high, the tip of his wand pointing directly at the tightly closed door.
"Burst Break!"
As a clear and powerful incantation echoed in the space,
Suddenly, a deep magical force surged towards the door in front of Dylan.
The moment the two made contact.
A deafening roar erupted!
"BOOM!!"
The door first trembled violently, the grain of the wood twisting and tearing frantically.
Then, countless cracks spread rapidly like a spider web, and the entire wooden panel, under the powerful impact, turned into countless tiny fragments of wood, scattering in all directions.
Dust billowed!
As the smoke gradually cleared, Dylan, holding his wand, walked with leisurely steps into the door that had once been tightly closed.
"The door was enchanted with a special power by Professor Flitwick; Alohomora wouldn't work, and it was also protected by another layer of magic, making it difficult to force open."
This was what Dylan had felt the moment he cast the spell on the door.
But obviously, he had a very high degree of mastery over such offensive spells.
Even the door set up by Professor Flitwick couldn't stop him; instead, it was blasted to smithereens.
"The commotion was a bit loud. Hopefully, it won't attract the professors' attention."
Stepping through the doorway, Dylan casually glanced at the surrounding walls.
"Huh? Why do these walls feel like they haven't been enchanted with any protective spells?"
Dylan was taken aback.
So, this broken door was harder to destroy than the walls?
"Maybe I should have just blasted the wall."
An idea popped into Dylan's head, but then he shook his head.
But if he blasted the wall, the noise would be too loud, and the entire room might collapse.
Stepping into the next room, Dylan saw an extremely large chessboard.
A group of chess pieces, almost as tall as a person, stood on the board.
"Playing chess, huh."
If it were other tests, that would be fine. After all, it was a challenge set up by Professor McGonagall, and he still wanted to try it.
But the condition for passing was to play chess, which was a bit troublesome.
Dylan's goal was clear: he walked straight towards the tightly closed door on the opposite side.
Just as he was about to draw his wand and send another Burst Break towards the door,
Suddenly, the entire chessboard began to shake violently.
Immediately afterward, the chess pieces on the board seemed to come to life, moving on their own.
"Oh? This application of the Transfiguration Charm... truly exquisite."
Dylan raised an eyebrow, watching the tall knight pieces wielding long lances, the castle pieces holding heavy iron gates, and a group of pawn soldiers armed with weapons, all swarming towards him menacingly.
He didn't panic at all.
He simply moved his wand quickly in the air.
"Petrificus Totalus!"
Magic shot out, and the first few pawn pieces charging forward were instantly frozen, turning into rigid stone statues.
However, the chess pieces' offensive didn't diminish. While the front row was bound, the pieces behind continued to advance relentlessly.
"Protego!"
Dylan instantly conjured a transparent, faintly glowing shield of protection, which expanded in front of him.
All the wildly charging chess pieces were blocked, emitting dull thuds.
At the same time, Dylan didn't stop his movements, but waved his wand again.
"Ferula!"
Magic surged forth, passing through the protective shield and wrapping around the chess pieces that were trying to attack him.
In the next moment, something magical happened.
The lances in the knights' hands instantly turned into soft branches, and the armor on their bodies transformed into colorful feathers, fluttering down.
The heavy iron gates held by the castle pieces also became thin sheets of white paper, drifting in the air.
The weapons in the soldiers' hands turned into blooming flowers, their original fierce and ferocious appearance instantly becoming comical and ridiculous.
These chess pieces still maintained their attacking postures, but because of the change in their weapons, they instantly fell into disarray.
The knights tried to grab the branches and swing them at Dylan.
However, the branches bounced off the protective shield Dylan had conjured with a "thwack."
The castle pieces held up the paper, looking bewildered.
The soldiers looked at the flowers in their hands, at a loss.
Dylan laughed heartily.
"Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration Charm, I can finally deal with it."
However, he soon sensed that the weapons and other objects he had transformed were now being enveloped by a magical force again.
"Casting a spell once can make matter continuously transform?"
Dylan's eyes lit up. He could feel that magical force eroding his reversed magic.
Within fifteen minutes, the paper would turn back into iron gates, and the branches would once again become lances.
"Why didn't Professor McGonagall teach me this method of applying Transfiguration Charms?"
Next time, he would have to pester Professor McGonagall to teach him how to maintain the magic of transformation permanently.
Being unaffected by other transforming forces essentially meant having the effect of resisting magic.
This was even in the absence of the spell's caster.
If Professor McGonagall were here, Dylan felt he probably wouldn't have been able to successfully transfigure these chess pieces at all.
Continuing to hold up the Shield Charm.
Dylan pointed his wand directly at the chess pieces.
"Burst Break!"
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A surge of immense magical power, like a giant ignited bomb, spread out frantically from Dylan's center.
The chess pieces at the forefront were the first to be hit by the magic, instantly enveloped by the powerful impact.
Only a series of continuous booming sounds erupted.
The individual chess pieces were like being crushed by a giant hand.
One after another exploded, emitting successive booming sounds.
Each explosion was accompanied by a dazzling light and flying debris. The bright light flashed continuously, illuminating Dylan's eyes.
His figure stood steadily amidst the flames and the remnants of the chess pieces.
The shockwave of the explosions blew his hair and the corners of his robes, even his robes fluttered violently, revealing his appearance.
Letting the flying fragments brush past his body and cheeks, Dylan's eyelids didn't even flicker once.
All the debris was bounced away by the Shield Charm the moment it approached him.
In the blink of an eye, the swarm of chess pieces had turned into a pile of rubble. Dylan's expression was calm as he gently lowered his wand, raised his hand to pat off the dust on his body, and then turned around.
"Burst Break!"
Boom!
Another doorway was blasted open.
Dylan couldn't help but feel a sense of Feeling.
No wonder some wizards, just by deeply mastering one spell, could walk the wizarding world unhindered.
It really was one skill to eat your fill everywhere.
From beginning to end, Dylan could have even solved all the problems by only using the Burst Break spell.
If it weren't for wanting to feel the Transfiguration Charms Professor McGonagall had cast on these chess pieces, Dylan could have blasted everything to pieces with a wave of his hand from the start!
"Did I learn offensive magic a little too quickly?"
Dylan clicked his tongue and stepped into the next room.
"Ugh..."
Instantly, a stench assaulted his nostrils.
It almost made him throw up in disgust.
"A familiar fishy stink, even worse than last time."
Dylan once again felt this pungent and nauseating odor, grabbing at his nose hairs, one by one, drilling into his nasal cavity.
"Bubble-Head Charm!"
Dylan skillfully enveloped his head in a layer of transparent bubbles.
The stench was expelled by the bubble.
Looking ahead, Dylan saw in the very center of the room a massive corpse lying on the ground.
The corpse of a troll.
"ThermoVision!"
Magic slowly covered Dylan's eyes.
This spell was taught to him by Professor Flitwick, allowing his vision to see heat.
Dylan looked ahead and felt the world before him suddenly change. Various objects were emitting different degrees of light.
Especially the troll corpse in the center of the room, under the effect of ThermoVision, constantly emitted a faint red halo.
That was residual heat, releasing its last breath.
Narrowing his eyes slightly, Dylan briefly observed the intensity and range of the halo on the troll's body, roughly estimating the time of the troll's death to be about an hour ago.
"But without any wounds..."
Dylan quickly locked onto the answer.
He saw claw marks under the troll's body where it had scratched the ground, but they were shallow and not deep, obviously caused by the troll's brief struggle before dying instantly.
"This person's Killing Curse is really unskilled. It actually let the troll struggle twice. If you can't do it, you might as well come and learn from me. I won't ask for much as a teacher's fee, just Voldemort's soul will be enough."
Dylan grumbled to himself while plucking all the troll's whiskers and snot.
