Leo had a provocative smirk on his face as he looked at Old Mr. Yancey. It was as if he was saying to his grandfather, "Look, Grandpa, I've a human amulet to protect me from your beating now!"
The cockiness in Leo's eyes only made Old Mr. Yancey more angry, and started rebuking Leo again, "You rascal..."
Leo countered, "Grandpa, Kayden and Kayla are still here. You might frighten them if you hit me."
This reminder successfully forced Old Mr. Yancey to swallow his anger. Shawn was greatly amused by this whole exchange and had to cover up his laughter with a soft cough.
"Grandpa, don't be angry. Leo was only teasing you." Shawn said as he elbowed Leo, "Quick, apologize to Grandpa now. You won't be able to bear the consequence if anything bad really happens to Grandpa because he got too angry."
