Chapter 5 - Quitting School

Whatever you're given, you pay for it. What Sarah Mooney meant was that Zoila Mooney's gift, though not expensive, was made by herself. While Yvonne was just fishing for fame with her family's money.

Yvonne rolled her eyes secretly and said, "Ms. Mooney, you're right. It's not easy for Dad to make money. So I bought this tie with my own money!"

Sarah laughed and answered back sarcastically, "It doesn't matter whether it's your living expenses or lucky money. To put it bluntly, it's also the money that your father earned through hard work."

"Well, what I mean is that I earned this tie myself."

"This... how is this possible?" A sharp-eyed guest questioned, "the tie of this brand costs at least tens of thousands. A custom-made tie like this must be even more expensive. Miss Taylor... She's still a college student. How did she manage to do it?"

Yvonne smiled confidently.

In her previous life, she had been framed by Sarah and cut off all ties with her father.

When she ran away from home at that time, she didn't have much living expenses.

To try her luck, she bought a lottery ticket.

The result was expected. She, who had always been unlucky in her previous life, certainly did not win the prize in the end, but the numbers of winning 500,000 was deeply imprinted in her mind at that time. So she bought the lottery today, and there was no doubt that she won the prize.

Although she didn't make much effort to get the first bucket of gold, Yvonne had already made up her mind that in this life, she would be able to create her own world.

"I made a little investment before and just took back the money yesterday. Today, I went to design a tie, so I was late for your birthday party... In short, Dad, I will work hard to earn money in the future. You'll be proud of me!"

Yvonne's words were half true. It was true that she spend one day designing the tie, but the investment... Hmm, the lottery could also be considered as an investment. Anyway, she was sincere in her final sentence.

She couldn't live in vain anymore.

"My good daughter!"

Frank was very pleased. With tears in his eyes, he hugged his daughter in public.

Frank had been looking forward to making up with his daughter. He didn't expect that God would finally bless him on his 45th birthday.

Yvonne was also moved. In her father's arms, she saw Sarah's eyes full of hatred.

So she sneered back.

When Yvonne left her father's arms, she looked into her stepmother's vicious eyes and said, "Ms. Mooney, it's indeed not easy for Dad to earn money. Zoila is only 18 and there's no need to buy her the expensive Valentino. If someone with ulterior motives see this, they will definitely misunderstand my sister as worshiping money."

Sarah was so angry. What was even more hateful was Yvonne had suddenly become smart recently and Sarah couldn't refute her at all!

She could only put on airs and say, "Yvonne has grown up and become sensible. Haha."

Yvonne felt it boring to argue with Sarah. After dealing with her stepmother, she went to drink and chat with other friends.

The banquet was over.

Zoila Mooney and Sarah Mooney were sitting in the room.

Zoila didn't want to give up. She raised her hand and smashed the jewelry box on the table.

"we are both his nominal daughters. Why is he always so partial?"

Zoila was so aggrieved that her eyes were full of tears.

She knew that her mother had been remarried and that she was not Frank Taylor's biological daughter. As a result, she had been trying her best to be more sensible and outstanding than Yvonne.

It took her a month to finish that embroidery! Her fingers were almost all pricked. But just now, Frank said that as long as Yvonne became sensible, it would be the best gift for him!

Sarah was also unwilling to give up.

She also clenched her fists, and her twisted face was as dark as her cheongsam.

"Zoila, don't worry. Mom will definitely get rid of her with my own hands! She must disappear from this world..."

...

The next day.

Yvonne Taylor woke up and heard someone knocking on her door.

"Miss Taylor, something bad has happened! Come down quickly!"

"What's the matter?" Yvonne asked and rubbed her throbbing temples.

"The dean of your school is here to visit Mr. Taylor. She said you failed too many exams last term. If you don't have enough credits, you're going to be expelled!"

Quitting school!

Hearing these two words, Yvonne was wide awake.

he almost forgot that in her previous life, she was ignorant and incompetent. In her first year of university, she only focused on drinking and dancing all day long, and only went to school a few times. As a result, she was dismissed from school in her second year and became a joke of the whole Hiltonan.

It was easier to be a freshman in university than in high school, but Zagor University was the best university in the country with strict rules.

Any students with a credit less than 12 points in a semester would be expelled from school!

Yvonne quickly washed up, changed her clothes, and went downstairs.

As soon as he went downstairs, he saw his father and the dean sitting in the living room and talking.

"Mr. Taylor, we know that you has contributed a lot to our school with your investment. It's hard for the school to make this decision..."

"Mr. Dye, is there really no room for negotiation?" On one side, Sarah pretended to persuade the teacher but actually poured oil on the fire.

Mr. Dye sighed, shook his head and replied, "The results are all on it. You can see for yourself."

Frank held Yvonne's report in her hand with a serious expression.

He never asked Yvonne to become a genius or be excellent in character and learning like Zoila Mooney.

He only hoped that his daughter would be happy. But even so, he did not want her to quit university before graduation.

"Mr. Dye, this matter remains to be discussed."

"Well..."

Frank's status could not be underestimated in Hiltonan, and Mr. Dye was also in a dilemma.

However, it was at this moment that Sarah shot him a crazed look, hinting him to come to a conclusion and leave Yvonne no chance.

Their actions were clearly seen by Yvonne, who was on the stairs.

If she remembered correctly, Mr. Dye was Sarah's distant relative.

In her previous life, he used to deliberately put Yvonne to trouble, and it was why Yvonne hated going to school so much.

"Mr. Taylor," Mr. Dye braced himself and said under the encouragement of Sarah, "it is not that the school refused to accept her, but Miss Taylor's usual performance was too out of line. She never went to class on time. She missed the final exams and failed. According to the regulations of Zagor University, she did have to quit school."

Sarah subconsciously observed Frank's face. As expected, it was dark.

Mr. Dye continued to persuade Taylor, "Mr. Taylor, with all due respect, you can find Miss Taylor a position in any company with your status. If it doesn't work, you can temporarily support her to start a business. As the saying goes, all roads lead to Rome. Miss Taylor is not fit to study, and it's bad for her and others if we keep her at school. What do you think?"

"Who said that I'm unfit to study?"

Just then, a crisp voice came from upstairs.

Yvonne had been leaning against the armrest for a long time, and both Sarah and Mr. Dye were like clowns in her eyes!

"Yvonne?" Frank looked back at her and was a little surprised.

Yvonne walked downstairs with a smile and said, "Dad."

Seeing the beautiful girl in front of him, Mr. Dye felt a little guilty.

"Mr. Dye, I was wondering why you are here. So you are here to ask me to quit school."

Yvonne said with a delicate and aggrieved expression, "Confucius once said, 'Instruction knows no class distinction.' Why do you want me to drop out just because my grades in last semester are not good enough?"

...

"Yvonne, you haven't attended classes for a whole year in your first year of college. It's fine when you just fail, but the problem is that you're always absent for classes, and this is a matter of your attitude. It's the school that made this decision, this is a rule, and I'm just responsible for informing you."

Yvonne said, "I know the rules of the school, but Mr. Dye, as the dean of the studies, have you forgotten something very important?"

Seeing that she was full of confidence, Mr. Dye couldn't react in time. "... What's that?"

"When the student was dismissed by the school because of his absence and attitude, there is only one situation in which he can retain his student status."

Yvonne stood in the same place and said word by word, "and he should win the first place in the school-level discipline competition!"

The subject competition, as its name suggested, was an exam to exercise the students' intelligence and went beyond the scope of a textbook.

Usually, all the major universities in the country would set up various subject competitions. They would pick out the best students of the schools and let them finally enter the national finals through layers of selection.

As the leading university in the country, Zagor University spent a lot of effort every year in the national university academic competition.

First, it had set up a college-level academic competition to select excellent students, who would then be submitted to attend the provincial league, the repechage, and the national final.

Therefore, as long as the student could win the first place in the university discipline competition, the teacher would definitely not be willing to let the student drop out of school!

However, Mr. Dye was stunned when he heard Yvonne's words. Before Frank could understand what was going on, Sarah couldn't help but laugh.

"Yvonne, are you going to participate in the discipline competition? Hahaha..."

Zoila had mentioned before that the first thing she wanted to do after she was admitted to Zagor University was to try the math competition there.

They all belonged to the department of calculation, and their discipline competition was the math competition.

At that time, Zoila only mentioned it casually, and Sarah did not take it seriously. Because she said that it was very difficult and almost impossible to get the ranking. But if she could get the ranking, she would make herself and her mother so proud in Hiltonan.

But could Yvonne success when even Zoila could not make it?!

Yvonne ignored Sarah's mockery and said, "Mr. Dye, let me ask you, is that true?"

Mr. Dye: "Yes..."

But this rule was for those students who had to delay the courses to prepare for the competition. Was it ok for Yvonne since she went to drink and sing???

"Then, Mr. Dye, you are not qualified to persuade me to leave now."

Mr. Dye said with a serious look, "Yvonne, the discipline competition is not for fun. At least those who participate in the competition have to get full marks in the compulsory course of advanced mathematics. What about you?"

These words made her a little unhappy.

"So what? Isn't it just an exam? Yvonne is my child. I believe her!"

He wasn't good at studying and didn't know much about discipline competitions, but when others looked down on his daughter like that, it made him very unhappy.

Mr. Dye was speechless. "No, Mr. Taylor, you should understand..."

"I will take the first place!"

Just then, a girl's bright voice sounded.

"What?" Sarah seemed to have heard a joke. "Yvonne, are you nuts or something?"

Mr. Dye was also embarrassed. "Yvonne, you have to respect objective facts. With your grades, it's impossible."

Yvonne secretly gritted her teeth.

How could she not know that it was impossible? But when she saw that her father supported her so much, she raised her spirit and could no longer remain silent in the end.

"I don't care. I'll throw caution to the wind!"

"Dad, I won't let you down for the rest of my life!"

Yvonne straightened her back, clenched her fists, and said loudly and firmly.

"Dad, I will definitely get the first place in the discipline competition in a month!"
