At the end of the file were some records about SCP-1000, including details of its sightings and the number of people who died as a result. There were also accounts of an anti-human organization that broke into the Foundation to release SCP-1000 and destroy humanity. The language used was somewhat exaggerated, making it seem like a dramatic tale.
After reading through the file, James put it down, speechless.
"Why? Do you think it's alarmist?" Dr. Kondraki asked, walking over with a cigarette in his mouth and a smile on his face.
"In fact, I think SCP-1000 is the most likely entity to subvert human civilization among all the objects contained by the Foundation."
As soon as Dr. Kondraki said this, everyone, both inside and outside the screen, fell silent.
James frowned. "Because of SCP-1000-F1?"
"SCP-1000-F1?" Dr. Kondraki looked surprised, shaking his head repeatedly. "No, no, no! There's no such thing as SCP-1000-F1..."
He paused, his tone almost sarcastic. "In fact, there's no such thing as SCP-1000-F1 at all!"
No SCP-1000-F1?
Not only was James stunned, but the audience watching also appeared confused. Bigfoot was contained as a Keter-level object, and the only threat it posed seemed to be the dangerous virus, SCP-1000-F1. So, if there was no SCP-1000-F1, then what exactly was there to fear about Bigfoot? Were they just gorillas?
Dr. Kondraki switched on the TV, and a humorous animation featuring Bigfoot appeared on the screen. The characters in the animation were playfully mocking Bigfoot. Dr. Kondraki laughed sarcastically.
"You think Bigfoot is funny because we want you to think that way. We fund comedies and farce documentaries in Hollywood; we pay people to dress up in gorilla suits and pull pranks; we bribe cartoonists to portray Bigfoot as a joke on children's shows."
Dr. Kondraki's sarcasm grew more direct. "Even the term 'Bigfoot' was invented by us and introduced to the media to make the creature seem even more absurd than 'Sasquatch'—something that couldn't be taken seriously."
The audience was now even more puzzled.
Since there's no SCP-1000-F1, why go to the trouble of portraying Bigfoot in such a ridiculous light?
As if he heard the audience's doubts, Dr. Kondraki continued, "I'll tell you why. The truth is different from what you know. Two parts are lies, and two parts are deliberate concealments of information."
"Concealments?" James asked, puzzled.
Dr. Kondraki leaned forward, never stopping his explanation.
"That's right. There's no anomalous disease called SCP-1000-F1; SCP-1000 doesn't have a death aura. In fact, SCP-1000 doesn't directly cause any anomalous effects."
James's surprise was evident, but Dr. Kondraki seemed pleased with it.
"We've also hidden the true intelligence of SCP-1000. It's not just a species with the intellect of chimpanzees. They're as intelligent as us, maybe even smarter."
At this, the live broadcast room exploded with disbelief.
"WTF? Gorillas are smarter than humans? That's insane!"
"Wait, so Bigfoot is actually not an anomaly? It's just another species that exists?"
The viewers were in shock, trying to grasp what they had just heard.
Natasha Romanoff was confused. "I don't get it. Even if Bigfoot is just as intelligent as humans and another species altogether, shouldn't that be something we can coexist with?"
Nick Fury, however, shook his head with a somber expression. "The peace we have now was hard-earned. It's built on the backs of thousands of years of struggle. Cultural differences, beliefs, and even minor misunderstandings can escalate into conflicts."
"You see peace on the surface, but there's history behind it. In places you don't see, countless civilizations have disappeared in the long stream of time," Fury said, his voice growing heavier.
Natasha looked taken aback, understanding dawning on her. "So... you mean this whole Bigfoot thing is really just a race conflict between humans and Bigfoot?"
"Maybe it's more complicated than that," Dr. Kondraki added.
"This story comes from a man who defected from the Children of the Sun," he continued, lighting another cigarette. "As you already know, humans evolved alongside SCP-1000's ancestors. We were diurnal, and they were nocturnal—our brothers and sisters in the shadows."
Dr. Kondraki paused for a moment before speaking again, his voice shifting with a tinge of fear. "But then, something happened. SCP-1000 mutated, just like us. We advanced with tools, weapons, agriculture, and domestication of animals. But by the Pleistocene era, SCP-1000's population exploded—tens of billions of them spread across the globe."
The audience began to grasp the magnitude of the situation.
"At that point, SCP-1000 was making creations we can barely comprehend. They used organic technology to turn birds and trees into ships, herds of beasts into trains, bushes into flying machines. Insects and pigeons became the basis for technology like cell phones, televisions, computers, and even atomic bombs."
Dr. Kondraki leaned back, his eyes glinting. "The Children of the Sun described vast, shining cities stretching across glaciers and deep caves, where ships made of tusks and cobwebs flew through the skies, watched over by creatures with hundreds of blinking eyes."
The audience, though skeptical, could almost picture the grand, alien civilizations that Dr. Kondraki described. But the realization that this advanced civilization had been Bigfoot—creatures who were once considered primitive—left everyone feeling strange.
James, intrigued, asked, "And where were humans during all of this?"
Dr. Kondraki smiled wryly. "Humans were just rare animals, like gorillas today, no more than a few hundred thousand of us. We lived as wild animals, avoiding SCP-1000's settlements. They knew we were as intelligent as they were but left us alone, just as we avoid gorillas today."
Dr. Kondraki's gaze seemed to peer through time itself. His tone became almost playful as he spoke of their views on humanity. "To them, we were like supernatural creatures—fairies and gnomes. They believed we specialized in stealing bad children while they slept. They protected our dwindling wild populations, banned poaching, but also used our bones for trade in aphrodisiacs."
James's eyes narrowed. "So what happened next?"
Dr. Kondraki's face darkened. "Then… humanity did something we should never have done. We wiped them out."
James's breath caught in his throat.
Dr. Kondraki's voice grew colder. "We destroyed their civilization. We used their own weapons against them, burned down their grand cities, and turned their remains into dust."
The audience, horrified, could sense the weight of what was being described. The sudden collapse of a once-thriving civilization… all due to humanity's intervention.
"SCP-1000 never truly lost its knowledge or intelligence," Dr. Kondraki said, his voice carrying a hint of fear. "Now, they're starting to recover what we erased from history. That's why sightings of Bigfoot are becoming more frequent and why any attempts to make contact are so dangerous."
James felt a cold shiver run down his spine as Dr. Kondraki's words settled in. "Yes," he said with a sinister smile, "SCP-1000 is waking up, and they remember everything. They're just as dangerous as we are. Ask yourself—if they had the chance, what would they do to us?"
James shuddered slightly, the chilling implications sinking in.
The file ended with an unsettling note: [DATA EXPUNGED] suggested that some SCP-1000 instances were now able to communicate in English. The final line read: "We can forgive you; You have a chance now, don't miss it; Let's come back!"
The audience in the live broadcast room was left in stunned silence. The idea of a forgotten civilization struggling to reclaim its rightful place sent shivers through everyone.
Natasha Romanoff's voice broke the silence. "Now I get why Bigfoot is classified as a Keter-level containment object."
Dr. Kondraki's final words echoed in James's mind as he sat in silence, trying to make sense of the magnitude of what had just been revealed.
