The distance from what they saw on the map wasn't something close—they would take weeks, probably, before they reached the Spire of the First Flame.
Just as they left the Ashbound camp, the whole forest felt damp, like something was following them close and didn't want to let go of their trail.
Riven felt it but shook his head instead and waved it off as nothing.
"Probably just the wind rustling too hard," he thought.
The thought of the Reclaimer attacking them mid-travel was frightening. From what they said about it, it wasn't something to be easily defeated. And if he was to face it, he doubted he'd win—especially since Veyla was with him and he'd be too busy trying to protect her rather than fighting.
He continued walking ahead without glancing back, Veyla following up close behind him.
"You're feeling it too, right?" she whispered from behind him, glancing around them eagerly like a child.
