"I will ask my wife if she knows anything." He picked up the laptop with the images before walking away through the corridor; he opened the bedroom walking in before closing it behind him.
The bedroom was dim, cloaked in soft golden light to ease her in resting.
Lu Wan Ruyi lay against a mound of silk pillows, her skin pale but her eyes still clear and sharp. Despite the tension outside those walls, the room had been kept quiet and she had fallen asleep.
Lu Wan Ruyi suddenly snapped her eyes open the moment Lu Zhi Hao got closer. She was sharp and sensitive surprising Lu Zhi Hao.
She immediately calmed down seeing who it was.
"You look like you've seen a ghost." He crossed the room and sat beside her, placing the laptop on the low table in front of them. "I need your eyes on something. Someone, actually."
She adjusted herself upright with a wince, and he helped her gently. When the laptop opened, the paused CCTV footage came up.
He fast-forwarded the footage before he paused it again. "Him," he said, pointing to the man in the back, slightly stooped, his face partially turned away, but enough was visible in profile.
Wan Ruyi leaned in slowly checking the person out.
Her eyes widened at that surprise.
A hand flew to her mouth, and for a second, Lu Zhi Hao thought she might cry.
"You know him?" he asked, his voice low and tender.
Yes, that's Professor Mo... But how is it possible that he is alive? They said he had died from a fire explosion in the laboratory and I had to be arrested as the main suspect for his death and deathly experiments! How could he be alive?" Not only was she shocked, but a memory flashed through her brain, she hadn't wanted to recall at all.
Was he after her for the experiments or was he after her because of those results that never got to be finalized?
Lu Zhi Hao froze for a minute. The room felt suddenly colder despite the warm golden light turned on. "Professor Mo?" he echoed, not yet grasping the weight of what she just said. "You are sure?" Lu Zhi Hao didn't know much about this said person but at one time, there was a highly prohibited experiment that had gone rampant and even the government had to get involved.
Lu Wan Ruyi's fingers trembled slightly as she reached forward and tapped the laptop screen. "That tilt of his head, that gait… I would recognize it anywhere. I worked with him for three good years before… before everything happened and left everything for me to shoulder." She couldn't forget it, even though she had privately worked for him and no one knew about it, she knew every trait about him.
Zhi Hao narrowed his eyes at the image vivid on the screen. "But he was declared dead and in all the official records. A funeral was held and arrest warrant issued for you as a scapegoat. You were tried and exiled from academia, and they shut everything down. Are you telling me they lied?"
"No." She exhaled loudly feeling bitter, "They didn't lie about everything. It's true that there was a fire, a massive one. The lab was gone in minutes. I barely made it out. But I never saw his body. They said it was incinerated beyond recognition… and that was enough for them to frame me. This is something I never got to tell anyone, not even my family knew then, everything was secret and confidential, even for the arrest, they had only stated that I started the fire while operating weird experiments in the laboratory and even used a human for the experiment, because, everything was written down by my handwritten and signature, let's just say, with my naivety, that was the reason for my arrest, those pictures you saw." She actually hadn't expected she would be hunted tonight. And now, she wondered if those pictures were exposed by that man trying to tarnish her name.
