Yamanaka Ino.
So that's why.
Sasame finally recalled this girl—the last inheritor of the Kurama clan's terrifying genjutsu Kekkei Genkai.
The Kurama clan.
Once, their reputation rivaled even the Uchiha.
Their bloodline ability was outright broken:
Total sensory domination.
Creation of illusory worlds—with the power to make them real.
Any injuries or effects inflicted within the illusion would manifest in reality.
Setting aside the Mangekyō Sharingan, the Kurama clan's potential surpassed even the Uchiha's.
But greater power came with harsher awakening conditions.
Over the generations, the clan had dwindled into obscurity, with almost no one able to awaken this fearsome Kekkei Genkai.
Kurama Yakumo was the last—and the strongest in history.
So strong that her psyche birthed a monstrous entity of Yin Release—Ido.
In the original timeline, it took Yūhi Kurenai, Naruto, and others to help Yakumo confront and destroy Ido, restoring her sanity.
"You're not a student? Why aren't you in class?"
Sasame studied her. If not for the setting, he'd have activated his Mangekyō to get a look at Ido.
"I… can't."
Yakumo's eyes dimmed, her smile bitter. "I've been frail since childhood. Becoming a shinobi… is impossible for me."
Sasame inwardly nodded.
Ido's emergence had drained her vitality, leaving her physically fragile.
A double-edged blessing.
But properly nurtured, Kurama Yakumo's potential was limitless.
Yet again, Sasame felt the urge to recruit.
...Though she's still so young.
His Tenmei organization was already halfway to becoming a daycare for troubled prodigies.
Ah, well. Can't pass her up now.
"Nothing's impossible."
Crouching to her eye level, he spoke calmly. "My teacher is Tsunade. Would you like her to examine you?"
Yakumo's breath hitched.
"L-Lady Tsunade?!"
Hope ignited in her eyes.
The legendary Sannin, the greatest medic-nin alive—
If she couldn't help, no one could.
"Yes." Sasame smiled. "Trust me? Come with me now."
"Okay!"
No hesitation. Becoming a shinobi was her dream—she wouldn't let this chance slip.
"Sasame, who's this?"
Shizune lay sprawled on the sofa, thoroughly spent.
Fresh off a marathon surgery at the hospital, no doubt.
"Kurama Yakumo." Sasame nudged the girl forward. "Mind giving her a checkup?"
"Hmm?"
Shizune perked up, professional curiosity overriding exhaustion. "Any specific symptoms?"
Yakumo glanced nervously at Sasame.
"Go on." He reassured her. "She's the best after Tsunade."
Shizune shot him an amused look.
This little charmer.
Her hands glowed green with diagnostic chakra as she scanned Yakumo.
The initial casualness soon gave way to deepening frowns.
Outwardly healthy, but inside…
Like a hollowed-out tree, riddled with rot.
And deep within—
A presence.
Cold. Malignant.
"You struggle to control your abilities, don't you?"
Yakumo's eyes widened. "H-How did you—?"
"Kekkei Genkai overload." Shizune sighed. "Rare to see one so potent it cripples the user."
"Can… can it be fixed?" Yakumo's voice trembled.
"Not my area." Seeing her hope shatter, Shizune quickly added, "But Tsunade-sama might have solutions. She'll be back by evening."
Relief washed over the girl's pale features.
"Shizune-nee, watch over her. I've got training."
Sasame left before Tsunade's return—he had other plans.
Land of Waves - Daimyō's Manor
"Karui, do you like these?"
Uzumaki Ena cradled a pot of crimson roses, their petals velvety under the sunlight.
"Mhm! Pretty!"
Karui glanced up from her book, then blinked. "But roses mean romance, right? Why'd you buy them, Mama?"
Ena's fingers twitched.
"J-Just for decoration!"
Her voice cracked slightly.
"The First Hokage once said—"
Karui, mercifully distracted, resumed reciting the history text Sasame had assigned.
Ena exhaled.
Too close.
Then—
A hand slid around her waist from behind.
"It's me."
Sasame's whisper sent shivers down her spine.
"K-Karui's right there—"
Ena stiffened, gesturing subtly toward their daughter, who sat barely five meters away, loudly practicing her readings.
Sasame nuzzled her neck, inhaling deeply.
"You smell amazing."
"I-It's the roses..."
Her whisper was barely audible.
"No."
His lips traced her pulse point. "Deeper. Warmer."
Ena's knees buckled.
"W-Wait—"
Too late.
Arms looped around his neck, silk-clad legs lifting off the ground as he carried her through the adjoining door.
Much later.
Ena slumped bonelessly in her chair, face aflame, thoughts scrambled into static.
"Huh? Nii-san?!"
Karui's startled voice pierced the haze.
"You memorized it all?" Sasame's praise floated through the door as he hefted their beaming daughter. "Let's hear it!"
As Karui's proud recitation filled the room, Ena's dazed eyes flickered back to awareness.
A whisper escaped her swollen lips:
"...I'm a terrible mother."
