Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: Invitation to a Duel

Link lowered his body and steadily caught the pouncing Emily.

Immediately, a fragrant breeze rushed toward his face. This made Link feel a bit dazed. He truly hadn't expected Emily's reaction to be this intense.

At this moment, Draco, who was at the side, silently lowered his head and stepped back to the side, pretending as if he hadn't seen anything.

"Hahaha! Link, you finally came!"

Emily giggled sweetly as she wriggled out from Link's embrace, then retreated back and picked up a plate of pumpkin cakes from the coffee table and stuffed them into Link's arms, saying:

"Hurry and try them, they were just made today, they're still warm now!"

"Ah, okay."

Link, who had just come to his senses, hurriedly stuffed a pumpkin cake into his mouth. The expression on his face immediately relaxed.

Sure enough, no matter how many times he ate them, pumpkin cakes were still the best.

Just then, from the side, a faint coughing sound suddenly came.

Hearing the sound, Link looked over and finally noticed that sitting to the side was a brown-haired young man with a small cluster of beard on his chin.

There was almost no need to ask; Link instantly knew he should be Wilson's son.

Because the robe he was wearing, just like Wilson's, was of that classical and bloated style, which, by current standards, was extremely ugly.

But the other party clearly didn't think so.

When he saw that Link's gaze had finally landed on him, he pretentiously adjusted his wide sleeves, then stood up and first spoke to Draco, who was bowing his head in the corner pretending to be a decorative object.

"Very pleased to meet you, Mr. Malfoy. I've heard that your family's herb plantation has had a great harvest recently. Truly congratulations. Our Wilson family, as one of the biggest magical potion producers in America, very much hopes to cooperate with the Malfoy family."

Malfoy didn't say a word. He sneaked a glance at Emily, then his body trembled and he shrank back into the corner again.

Little Wilson didn't get angry. He turned to Link with a smiling face and said, "And you as well, Mr. Flamel. Though our family is far away in America, I've long heard your great name."

As soon as these words were spoken, Link's eyebrows instantly furrowed. Because although Little Wilson sounded polite at first, his tone in the last part was full of sarcasm.

It was obvious, he was mocking Link's old reputation as an idiot.

Emily clearly noticed this too. Her gaze shifted and she was about to step forward and retort. But before she could do anything, Link beside her lightly chuckled and said, "It's only natural that you know me. You see, my surname is Flamel. But who are you? Wilson? Why have I never heard of this family before? Emily, have you heard of them?"

"Ah, I only heard of them for the first time today," Emily was stunned for a moment, then played along and said, "Seems like a small, unknown family from America with no real skills."

"Oh, is that so?" Link pretended to have a sudden realization as he spoke, then even smiled and looked at Little Wilson with eyes full of pity and contempt.

Link wasn't going to give face to the Wilson family. He didn't care what kind of person Little Wilson was either.

He came here today to cause trouble. Never mind that Little Wilson's sarcastic attitude was annoying, even if he were perfectly polite, Link would still look for a reason to make trouble.

Upon hearing this, the fake smile on Little Wilson's face instantly vanished.

As for Emily, Little Wilson actually didn't like her that much. After all, Emily was pretty, but could she be prettier than a Veela?

If he wanted a beautiful woman, Little Wilson would rather go for a Veela.

Personality-wise, Emily also wasn't to Little Wilson's liking. He liked women who were passionate like fire, not cold like Emily.

So earlier, even though Emily showed great affection for Link, Little Wilson didn't feel angry at all. Because Draco had said it correctly before.

He and his father Wilson had come to Britain this time specifically to find pure-blooded noble families for marriage alliances.

Even though on the surface the American magical society appeared more tolerant about bloodlines, in reality, many of the newly risen top circles in America placed even more value on bloodline purity and family history than the ancient but declining British families.

There were likely complicated historical and ancestral reasons behind this. Anyway, those guys had a crazy obsession with these vague, illusory things.

The Wilson family clearly didn't meet the standards in these two areas. Because of this, they had missed out on many opportunities to rise further.

But if they could marry into the Victoria family at this time, then everything would be different.

Though the Victoria family was merely a newly risen noble family with a layer of British pure-blood paint, and barely acknowledged by the true native families in Britain, in America they were extraordinary.

This would allow the Wilson family to directly complete a class ascension. That's why gaining the aura of British pure-blood nobles was the thing Little Wilson cared about most. For that, he absolutely wouldn't allow Link to come and mess things up.

A trace of cold smile appeared on Little Wilson's face. He slowly took out a silk handkerchief from his chest pocket, wiped his wand, then threw it at Link's feet, raised his head, and said, "You actually dare to insult my family? Then there's nothing more to say. A wizard's duel it is!"

Little Wilson hadn't lied earlier, he had indeed long heard of Link's name. But it was all negative things like "idiot," "trash," "a fool born of inbreeding," and the like.

In his mind, such a useless person actually dared to come up to him looking for trouble?

This was simply a perfect opportunity to show off.

He believed that as long as he could decisively defeat Link in a duel, then even if it couldn't make Emily willingly marry him, at least it would make her give up on Link.

Unfortunately, Link and the others in front of him didn't react with the panic or shock he expected.

Link and Emily just stood there in place, looking at Little Wilson with expressions as if they were looking at an idiot. Even Draco, in the distance, couldn't help but directly laugh out loud.

There was no helping it.

Wizards' duels were indeed very popular back in the days of Britain's magical golden age, but now, especially after two outbreaks of the Dark Lord's havoc, no one bothered with such things anymore.

Even if there were grudges between families, and even if they fought fiercely in private, at least on the surface they all maintained a harmonious and peaceful appearance.

A public wizard's duel? That was just too awkward and too crude.

Probably only those American nouveau riche who admired the British noble lifestyle but ended up becoming a mockery could come up with something like that.

And Little Wilson clearly hadn't realized just how ridiculous his actions were.

Draco's brief laugh sounded piercing to his ears, so much so that his face turned red with the anger in his heart.

He glared fiercely at Draco, then sharply pointed his wand at Link and said, "What? You coward, don't you dare?"
