Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: You're a Pro

The game [DHFTW] has two versions: the Online Mode and the Main Storyline. The Online version was created so that players could use the characters from the actual game. This was designed to prevent players from getting bored or quitting the game altogether.

Aside from the main character, the game includes many other characters for players to choose from—letting them pick their favorites. The online mode focuses heavily on Open World exploration, allowing players to roam freely through the game world. It also includes features like PvP, guild wars, and more.

Interestingly, the online version also reveals players' personalities—whether they're friendly or sarcastic. But that's not the main point I want to talk about right now. What I really want to talk about is one of the bosses in [DHFTW]: the Centaur.

This boss was inspired by Greek mythology, and while it's often featured in many games, in DHFTW it's unique. Unlike in the main storyline, the Centaur only appears as a mini-boss inside a dungeon in the online version.

About 75% of players struggle to defeat this monster—and that 75% includes free-to-play players and even some hackers. But with the game's advanced system, any cheating player gets instantly banned and their account deleted.

Personally, I've defeated every boss in this game, using both good and evil characters. I like experimenting with whatever comes to mind. That's also how I earned the title of Anomaly Player.

Yeah, I know it sounds ridiculous—but I've beaten the Centaur countless times using all sorts of characters.

"And now, I'll defeat you again—so get ready!"

Ace reached his hand toward Ren.

"Come on, Ren! Let's crush this monster with a single strike!"

"Wow, I didn't know you could be this fired up, Ace! Looks like Lord Noah didn't choose the wrong person after all!"

The two of them combined their powers. In an instant, Ren transformed into a Legendary Sword—a katana.

Caiber, watching them, was both surprised and amazed. She cheered them on enthusiastically.

"Go on, you two! Defeat that creature and save this continent from the evil that's been haunting and terrifying its people!"

The two smiled back.

"Yes—we'll definitely save this continent!"

shouted Ace and Ren, ready to strike down the Centaur.

"A LIGHT FORCE!"

A slash that cuts through the darkness.

Ace rushed forward and slashed directly ahead.

Their attack landed perfectly. The Centaur smirked, blood spilling from its mouth, before it collapsed and vanished—its body fading as if blown away by the wind.

Ren and Caiber were relieved and overjoyed to have defeated the creature. Suddenly, Ren—having returned to human form—hugged Caiber tightly.

"Waaah! Caiber, did you see that?! Ace and I totally slashed it! Hahaha!"

Ren cheered, not realizing how tight his hug was.

"I'm glad the monster's dead, but could you let go now? I can't breathe…"

Caiber said, struggling to speak.

Realizing what he'd done, Ren quickly let go, feeling super embarrassed.

Meanwhile, Ace stood silently, deep in thought, reflecting on the monster they just defeated.

(Wait… was it me who's too strong? Or was it thanks to Ren? Or maybe it's just because I've beaten this boss so many times in the game—using different characters too?)

(Still… I won. Even though this world I'm in now is on Hardcore mode.)

Ace was completely lost in thought, and Ren and Caiber, noticing this, started feeling uneasy and worried.

Caiber wanted to snap Ace out of it, but Ren stopped her and whispered something to her.

They had a mischievous plan: to startle Ace and laugh at his silly reaction.

"Hehehe, this is gonna be fun! We'll finally get to see his dumb, shocked face!"

"Hmm… it feels a little mean, but… I want to see his cute face too."

Caiber replied with a sweet smile.

That smile made Ren a bit jealous, since it wasn't quite what he had in mind. Still, they both prepared to go ahead with the prank.

But before they could do anything—they realized something strange.

Ace was gone.

They both froze, confused and panicked.

"What?! He disappeared? Don't tell me—he found out about our plan and ran off? Ugh, this isn't fun anymore!"

"I… I can't even sense him. This is bad. What should we do?"

Ren said in a panic.

Caiber tried to calm him down, urging him to stay relaxed.

"Don't stress out, Ren. I bet Ace is just playing hide-and-seek with us. That's all."

Ren nearly burst into tears, fearing that he had made another mistake and been abandoned again. He cried so hard that it made Caiber struggle to calm him down.

"Hic… hic… I didn't mean to do anything bad… I should've watched my words... hic..."

"It's okay, Ren. You didn't mean it. I'm sure we'll find Ace soon—he's strong, remember?"

Caiber's gentle words soothed Ren, and he finally stopped crying.

"You're right. He's not that weak. Alright! Let's go find him!"

Ren was back to his energetic self, thanks to Caiber's encouragement.

"That's the Ren I know! Hehehe."

"We've only known each other for a day, though..."

"Eh—really? Sorry if I got too friendly too fast. But we don't have time to waste now. Let's go find Ace."

Just as they were trying to come up with a plan, the ground suddenly shook.

A powerful tremor came from the direction of the fortress. They both turned to look.

The fortress gate slowly opened—revealing something that shocked them.

"Huh? What's going on? Isn't that…"

"Ren, look! That's…"

To their surprise, Ace was standing inside the fortress.

"Eh?! Ace—you were in there all along?!"

They both shouted at the same time, completely stunned.

Ace simply smiled, as if nothing had happened.

"Alright then—let's go. They've been waiting for us."

Ren and Caiber were still baffled, but at the same time, a little angry at Ace—for making them so worried.
