Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Camille Is Shocked

Shayla picked the call, and after a few minutes, she was done speaking with her brother.

Camille looked at Shayla whose expression had already worsened.

"What happened? Did he threaten you? Do you need me to speak to him, and perhaps knock some sense into his head?" Camille asked, breathing heavily.

Shayla chuckled, but shook her head.

"He did neither of those things to me, instead, he is waiting for me outside, he wants to take me home so I can pack," Shayla replied, forcing a smile on her face as she packed her belongings.

"Goodbye Camille," she smiled, and was about to leave when she was stopped by Camille's words.

"I'll go with you, I don't believe your brother isn't someone with emotions, surely, he should be able to listen to me," while speaking, Camille had already packed her things, and she was ready to leave.

Shayla looked at Camille who had a determined look on her face, and she knew that she wouldn't give up, at least not easily.

"Fine," she could only give in, and allow the latter to do as she pleased.

Both girls exited the cafe, and Shayla used her eyes to scan for her brother's car. It wasn't that hard to spot though, and hence, she found it easily.

"Let's go," holding Camille's hands, Shayla led her to the car.

"Miss," the bodyguard who was standing guard bowed his head to welcome her.

"Where is my brother?" Shayla didn't bother to respond to his greetings, rather, she questioned him.

The bodyguard gestured to the car, and said, "please get in Miss, Boss has somewhere important he needs to be, and you'll delay him if you keep standing there."

There was a hint of pleading, and at the same time, threat in the bodyguard's voice. Unfortunately for him, Camille was able to catch that threat.

"Did you just threaten her?" She asked, glaring at the bodyguard who didn't bother to give her a response.

Camille scoffed before turning to look at Shayla.

"I thought you said your brother was tough, why did he have to let the bodyguard do his dirty work while he sits in the car, and acts like nothing happened," Camile sneered in a loud voice with folded arms.

Shayla stared at her with wide eyes, and she instantly turned to look at the car. Camille's voice was deliberately loud, and it was clear that she wanted to anger her brother.

"Camille, what are you doing?" Shayla whispered, tugging at her clothes.

"Getting his attention, trust me, it would work," Camille gave a reply in return.

"Who knew that underneath the disguise of being a busy person, he is scared, and feels big just by controlling his sister, his egoistical character needs to be examined," Camille continued.

Shayla had to close her eyes in pain. Although she could get her brother to have a private discussion with Camille, it didn't mean that her brother could tolerate her words.

Before Camille could speak another word again, the car's window rolled down.

Camille's words caught in her throat when she saw who was in the car.

"Shane?" she breathed, stepping back, her eyes locked on him in disbelief.

Shane looked at Camille, whose face had gone completely pale.

Shayla, on the other hand, was surprised by Camille's reaction. Her eyes darted between Shane who had a calm expression, and Camille who looked like she was about to run away.

"Do you two know each other?" Shayla asked, breaking the tension instantly.

Camille cleared her throat before nodding.

She mentally scolded herself as she was not expecting Shane to be Shayla's brother.

"Why didn't you tell me your brother was Shane?" She whispered the question into Shayla's ears while giving Shane an apologetic smile.

"I didn't even know you would know my brother, even if I told you about it, there's a seventy percent chance that you wouldn't know him," Shayla replied with the same whisper.

All of a sudden, she flinched when the car door opened. Camille, on the other hand, swallowed....hard.

Shane didn't say anything. He only stared down at Camille who trembled due to his intimidation.

This was the first time she would feel scared in his presence, and perhaps, it could be attributed to how she had bad-mouthed him before finding out his real identity.

"Both of you, in the car, right now!" He instructed calmly.

Camille and Shayla shared glances, before rushing into the car.

After a few minutes, the car was already on the move. Fortunately, the back seat was able to contain all three of them.

Camille and Shane maintained eye contact for a while, meanwhile, Shayla felt confused by their interaction.

"Didn't you want to talk? Now this is your chance," Shayla nudged Camille. She low-key wanted her to speak to her brother.

Even if he doesn't consent to it, at least, she tried her best instead of doing nothing.

Feeling the nudge on her arms, Camille took a deep breath before catching Shane.

"Mr. Lockwood," she called out, steadying her breath.

"It isn't Shane anymore?" He cut her off with a fold of his arms.

"I'm sorry, Shane," Camille corrected herself.

"Uhm, why don't you let Shayla choose the college she would like to attend? I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to go to school abroad," Camille rushed, turning to look at Shayla who was nodding, backing her claims.

Shane looked at both girls who had pleading looks in their eyes, and he sighed before unfolding his arms.

"Why didn't you tell me that you were uncomfortable with it?" Shane asked, his voice was tender, nothing like she had ever heard from him. His question was directed at Shayla who had her head lowered.

Camille sighed. This was supposed to be a conversation between both siblings, but there she was. She decisively plugged in her earphones so she wouldn't listen in on their conversation.

"I didn't want to disappoint you," Shayla replied while taking a deep breath.

"You should have at least told me if you didn't like my plans for you, I'm still your brother, and I would always listen to you," Shane said. Although his voice sounded cold, she knew that his words were sincere.

Shayla looked at him, tears welling up in her eyes.

They had lost their parents at an early age, and Shane had been the one taking care of her ever since. She always listened to him so that it would take off the burden on his shoulders.

Shane sighed before speaking, his voice calm but firm.

"You can stay... but on one condition."
