Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Day of the match

Sunday morning. A pale light filtered through the curtains of Tesuka's room. He slowly opened his eyes, then sat up in bed. A quiet thrill pulsed through his chest. Today wasn't just any day—it was match day. Saint Augustin FC awaited.

He rose, stretched, and headed to the bathroom. After a quick wash, he slipped into his pre-match tracksuit and made his way to the kitchen. Mrs. Cide had prepared his favorite breakfast: warm bread, scrambled eggs, and a cup of lukewarm milk. He ate calmly, his mind already focused.

— "You feel ready?" his father asked, folding the newspaper.

— "More than ever," Tesuka answered with a small smile.

He finished his meal, rinsed his dishes, and grabbed his sports bag. At the door, he turned and gave his parents a nod.

— "I'll come back with a win," he promised.

As he opened the door to step outside…

Tesuka blinked. The message was clear.

— "Another challenge…" he muttered. "Alright. I'll show them."

He closed the door behind him and headed toward Polo Stadium with a determined stride.

[08:43 AM – Polo Stadium, East District of the City]

> "Good morning to all our viewers! This is Madi, your commentator for minor and major matche's Uswazi hope League here at Polo Stadium in Buyenzi, where we're just moments away from the highly anticipated clash between the U9 teams of PvP junior Fc in their first group stage match for the Buyenzi North zone: PvP Junior FC versus Saint Augustin FC. It's shaping up to be a blazing morning—both weather-wise and on the pitch!"

In the modest but packed stands, cheers, applause, and vuvuzelas blended into a joyful cacophony. Families were present, along with old-timers from the neighborhood and a few discreet scouts—just in case a gem emerged.

The air smelled of dry dust and budding dreams.

[08:45 AM – Stadium Entrance Tunnel]

The young players of PvP Junior FC stood in a line, silent, their cleats scraping lightly against the floor. Tesuka, wearing jersey number 10, stood at the center.

He wasn't nervous.

He wasn't excited either.

He was focused.

His breathing was calm, steady—almost calculated.

Around him, his teammates exchanged confident glances.

— "You ready?" asked Abdoul, his striker friend who had seen what Tesuka could do at training.

A simple nod was enough. The kind of nod that said, "I came here to make a statement."

[08:47 AM – Near the Stands]

> "Buyenzi is led by their captain, Maël, but one name is already drawing attention in the stands: number 10, Tesuka, a mysterious newcomer joining the squad this season. Not much is known about him… but behind the scenes, whispers say he's something special."

[08:50 AM – Kickoff Imminent]

Bayo, PvP's coach, stood just behind the sideline, in full coaching stance, ready to shout at any moment. His eyes locked on Tesuka. A quiet trust passed between them, forged through long weeks of training.

> "You know what you have to do. Today… you make your name."

[08:55 AM – Kickoff]

The referee raised his arm.

A sharp whistle.

The match began.

Early Minutes of the Match

The tension was palpable.

Saint Augustin FC immediately showed their grit. Feysal, their defensive midfielder, threw in tackles with precision. Papu, their rock-solid center-back, cut off PvP's long balls.

> "Saint Augustin is setting the tone early. Their pressing is tight, their defensive line solid. But PvP hasn't brought out their magic just yet..."

At the 4th Minute

The ball came to Abdoul on the wing. With a slight outside touch, he passed it inward.

Tesuka.

Number 10 touched the ball for the first time.

He immediately felt the difference. The ball stuck better to his feet. His improved ball control (B-) let him spin effortlessly—like a well-oiled compass.

A body feint. A step over.

Feysal bit. Tesuka slipped past him.

He faced Papu. Another quick dribble. Faked left, pushed right.

> "Ohh, Tesuka's first drive forward! He's breaking ankles already!"

He entered the box, spotted Maël alone on the far side.

A tense left-footed pass.

Maël lined up—side-footed finish.

GOOOOAAAAL!!!!

1–0 PvP ! The stadium erupted.

At the 6th Minute

Saint Augustin's coach was furious.

— "Who is that number 10?! Where did that kid come from?!"

At the 9th Minute

Buyenzi's defender intercepted the ball. Quick counterattack. Tesuka dropped back to collect it.

He received it with his back to goal. A small oriented control. He turned.

Kasusula rushed him. Tesuka stared him down.

A quick inside dribble, then a flick over—perfectly executed. The ball went over the defender's extended foot, and Tesuka caught it on the other side.

A spin move later, he passed it to Abdoul.

Abdoul struck with his left foot.

GOOOOOAAAL!!!

2–0.

> "What an incredible start from this young number 10! An outside-foot assist, a brilliant flick over the defender—he's lighting up the field like he's been playing here for years!"

Spectators leaned toward the parents on the sidelines.

— "What's his name?"

— "Tesuka, a newcomer. Nobody knew him before."

13th Minute

Tesuka received a deep through ball. This time, he didn't look to pass.

He pushed forward, used his speed (C+), held off the defender's pressure.

Right-footed curled shot.

Reflex save by the keeper. Corner.

But the message was clear:

He was everywhere.

Tesuka clenched his fists.

He was far from done with this quest.

The two teams return to the field. The cleats strike the dry ground, the shirts cling to the skin under the rising sun.

[09:47 – First Warning Shot]

Abdoul wins the ball in the midfield and immediately passes it to Tesuka, who lets it roll under his leg.

A quick nutmeg. A controlled touch.

> "OH MY GOD! What a body feint! He plays with space like an adult!"

A defender rushes in. Tesuka flicks the ball past him and sends a brilliant pass between two defenders.

Maël bursts forward.

4–1 for PvP Junior.

— "Who's this kid? He's only 6 years old, right?!" — "He looks like a pro player who got lost in a kids' game..."

Coach Kasongo screams at his boys. He changes everything.

Zuberi moves to the center. Feysal moves up a notch. It's now or never.

And it pays off. A beautiful combination in midfield lets Saint Augustin pull back to 4–2.

Doubt lingers... for a second.

PvP kick-off.

Tesuka touches it twice. A quick one-two with Abdoul, then he sends a pinpoint lob to the left.

At the 44th Minute

Another recovery. Tesuka dribbles upfield. He slows down, attracts two defenders, then passes backward.

Abdoul, with the inside of his foot.
