He was about to kill me.
And then—
I felt it.
A presence.
It wasn't the vampire. It wasn't the girl, still unconscious behind me.
This… was something else entirely.
It was as if the very air shifted—turned still, reverent.
I felt it in my spine, in my bones, in the roots of my mind.
Eyes. Watching.
And those eyes were not only watching me, but both of us.
Surprisingly, the vampire stood still without doing anything.
His face turned really pale and I could see the expression of fear and dreadness, engraved on his face.
His claws had stopped mid air, which he took back from pointing towards me.
A sudden gush of wind blew off the scent of blood as the vampire took a few steps back form me.
I was still in too shock to respond.
But, I could only think of one thing.
It was that, this damn vampire fears the unknown presence.
Then the vampire heaved a sigh and straightened his posture to a normal man.
He pat the dust on his shoulders and perfected the blazer he was wearing, and spoke up, turning his foxy gaze towards me.
"You better be prepared for the next time we meet, because I am not gonna spare you then."
Then he turned towards the narrow alley and left.
"What the actual hell happened?", I said to myself.

The reward was reduced, and I got 20 story points.
Now, I can't complain about it, cause I wouldn't have survived that anyway.
Keeping aside that fact, who the hell was that?
One thing I can say for sure, it's not an enemy of mine, and is much more powerful than that vampire.
I looked at the evening sky sprinkled with a sea of stars, with two large moons like glaciers floating on it, and heaved a sigh of relief.
For the first time after regressing, I experienced true fear.
But, it was not as bad as I thought, cause it felt like I had already experienced this way before too.
Considering this is not my first regression, and I don't even have the memory of the past lives I had lived, it might entirely be true that this feeling might very well be deja vu.
Well, let's not dwell on it much, and get the task at hand done.
From now on, I think unexpected situations like these will continue to appear before me.
And, as I don't have any high rated combat skills, it's better to use the story points I am getting on improving my stats right away.
Who knows what might happen the next second?
The problem is I have already used all my points on agility, and it did help me in this fight, to survive.
That's why, beside my agility, stats like strength and endurance is not really worth mentioning.
But, equally dividing the points wouldn't do much in my case, as I don't know how to use or improvise my skills.
Hmmm...
Increasing my agility further is the best option for now I guess.
And I did so immediately, fearing that vampire might be waiting for me at the next alley.
Finally, it looked something like this.
[Stats - Dorian Valen]
Strength: 7
Agility: 44 (+20)
Endurance: 6
Intelligence: 10
Charisma: 9
Willpower: 5
Luck: 4
After observing this stats window for a little, I started to suspect that, all of this is happening to me cause my luck is only at 4.
The next time I get any story points, I would definitely use them on luck.
Now that my agility has become 44, I am able to feel the fluidity in my body.
I took a deep breath and looked around.
The alley was quiet now. Still.
The unconscious girl lay against the wall, her chest rising and falling slowly—she was alive, at least.
The sword I'd grabbed was still lying nearby, bloodied but intact.
I picked it up again, this time not out of desperation, but intention.
It felt... lighter now. Not because the weapon had changed, but because I had.
I slid it into the belt loop of my trousers—clumsy, but it would do.
Then, limping slightly, I knelt beside the girl. Her face was pale, lips slightly parted.
Her school badge had been torn, and there was a gash near her shoulder that looked nasty, but not fatal.
I tore a strip of fabric from her already torn uniform—rough and bloodstained—and wrapped it tightly around her shoulder to stop the bleeding.
My hands shook as I tied the knot, more from exhaustion than fear.
At first, she didn't move. Her breathing was soft, almost shallow.
But then, her chest began to rise and fall faster—ragged, uneven gasps. Her lips twitched. A trail of drool slipped down the corner of her mouth.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
A chill ran down my spine as I leaned in closer.
Her skin had turned paler. Too pale. Almost translucent under the moonlight.
Then I remembered something.
Don't you turn into a vampire if you're bitten by one?
Before I could finish that thought—her eyes opened.
Wide.
Blank.
Completely white.
No iris.
No pupil.
Just a milky, glassy stare like that of a corpse staring into nothingness.
She blinked once.
Then slowly, her mouth curled into a grin.
A wide, broken, unnatural grin—like a puppet being forced to smile.
She tilted her head at me, just like the vampire had, but this time it wasn't with curiosity or menace.
It was mockery.
Playfulness.
Insanity.
Like a child who just found a new toy to break.
I stumbled back, heart pounding in my throat.
And then, she spoke—if you could call it that.
A gurgling whisper, choked and slurred, leaking from her lips like something dead trying to remember how to talk.
"Do... you... wanna play?"
Her smile stretched further. Too far.
Cracks formed at the edges of her lips, thin lines of blood seeping from the corners.
I couldn't breathe.
I couldn't move.
And in the silence of that moonlit alley, I could only think one thing.
I am so fucked.
