Lu Quinzue walked down the pathway with a quick pace. It was eerily quiet but that's not what he was bothered about. He was worried about Xia Yingying's safety. He saw a shop that was still lit.
Lu Quinzue saw a small figure that was imprinted on his memory. He walked to the shop when he heard.
" Ma, so that was the last pack of sanitary pad you had ?" Xia Yingying said to the shop attendant.
Lu Quinzue was surprised, so she needed a pad while didn't she tell him. He remembered his expression when he saw her used that bathroom. He might have scared her away. Lu Quinzue felt very remorseful. His expression suddenly became gentle.
" I've called my assistant, Xu Ziyu. He would get it soon " Lu Quinzue said looking at her in a softened expression.
Xia Yingying turned her face away, he was used to showing affection in public. Wasn't he about to unleash anger on her be because of that rumoured girlfriend. Yes, the girl was dead but her shadow still lingers. What was her name ? Huo Mei____. But her pregnancy in her past life must have been Hu Mingyou's plan. But how did Lu Quinzue end up getting spiked, he was a very calculative man.
" Young Master Lu" the old lady bowed with respect. Lu Quinzue gave her a nod and turned to Xia Yingying.
" Feeling any discomfort? " Lu Quinzue asked.
" Of course, I would " Xia Yingying turned away from him. She was annoyed he cut her trail of thoughts. Lu Quinzue felt a dull pain in his chest. He was only trying to comfort her, why would she make things difficult for him_?
" You didn't tell me about it. You would have been in a better situation than this if you had " Lu Quinzue said patiently.
" You didn't want anyone in that bathroom. How would I have taken something you kept for your dearest deceased childhood friend " Xia Yingying said with anger in her voice.
" I think you're forgetting that we are only contractual couples. Don't forget your role " Lu Quinzue whispered in her ears.
Xia Yingying didn't know how to react when he said does words. She felt like she was poured a bucket of ice water.
But he was right, she should not forget that they were contractual couples. She saw a figure at the door, her pyjamas were already stained. She felt embarrassed to walk towards Xu Ziyu.
Fortunately, the old lady took the packaged box from Xu Ziyu and wrapped a towel round Xia Yingying's waist. They both walked out to the bathroom.
Xu Ziyu looked at his boss, Lu Quinzue with a helplessly. He had called him by this time of the night to just buy a sanitary pad for his loved wife.
" Wow, what a lovely husband you are " Xu Ziyu said. Others didn't have the right to talk to Lu Quinzue like that but to Lu Quinzue, Xu Ziyu helped him back abroad . They were more like brothers than worker and employee.
Lu Quinzue has insisted on establishing him but Xu Ziyu refused. Xu Ziyu said he already had something he's working on.
" You were the only one that came to mind " Lu Quinzue said with no pity at all.
Xu Ziyu removed his cap and sat down revealing his distinct features. He has almond eyes. His eyes were golden, very pleasant to look at. With a chocolate hair that always cover one side of his eyes. A cross earring at his left ear. A handsome face with a proud chin. You would think he was one of these celebrities idols if you see him.
Xia Yingying was surprised when she opened the box. He bought a pant and a fitting pyjamas. Xia Yingying looked at the content in the box and he gave turned red. She got dressed quickly, put her old clothes in a bag to take home.
When she got out she finally got a good glimpse of the person that brought the package. She gave him a nod and walked out of the shop without approving Lu Quinzue's presence..
" Hahahaha " since Xu Ziyu came over this was the the first genuine laugh he cracked. " Someone has finally come to put you in your place " Xu Ziyu said in between laughter.
" Shut up" Lu Quinzue said angrily as he walked out with brewing anger. Xu Ziyu was older than him with at least years but he felt like he_ Lu Quinzue very much acted like the older brother.
Lu Quinzue saw Xia Yingying walking ahead of him. He decided to keep a safe space, avoiding pissing her off. But he didn't stay far away ( afraid of something or someone harming her ).
Xia Yingying walked ahead of Lu Quinzue she knew he was following her. Why did he pretend to care ? Didn't he just indirectly say they should stay clear from each other's affairs? She was thinking if how to repay the favour when she heard the sound of footsteps. Not just footsteps but she smelt bloodlust in the air.
Five gangsters walked towards her. Their smiles where profound on their faces. They walked lazily like the job was just a piece of cake. She sure was a hottie even in a pyjama.
" You're pretty my queen " one of the men. Maybe the leader amongst them said. He was about to reach out to her face when he felt a sharp pain at his neck. Xia Yingying's reflexes were so sharp that he didn't know when she raised her arm.
As the second guy lunged in she stepped one side with her super fast reflexes. She used her leg to hit him at the side of his face. Which made his head whipping back. He came crumbling on the ground with a loud thud.
The third guy growled towards her. She side stepped to his back, wrapped her arm around his neck not to kill him but to to make him unconscious. She hit a point on his neck_ carotid artery, it was fast, precise and surgical.
" Sleep tight" she whispered in his ears. She loosened her arm round his neck. His legs went numbed and he collapsed on the ground. She saw the two guys that were standing trying to rush at her with a danger when a gush of wind passed her.
What came to view next was their bodies slammed together on the ground. Because she has a high level in martial arts, she could see what happened but couldn't pinpoint anything exactly. She looked at Lu Quinzue with bewildered expression, he really did show her who owned the night. She felt so prideful and scared, he could finish up everything she did now under one minute. But she didn't want to feel inferior so she adjusted her cloth, flipped her hair and walked pass him.
" Thanks anyway" she said as she stopped at his track. Lu Quinzue revealed a sweet smile. He didn't know that getting a thank you from this little wild kitten would make him happy. He guessed he has to do more things to make her pleased and maybe get a _reward.
" What's my reward ?" Lu Quinzue asked her with anticipation. Xia Yingying was quite surprised at that question.
" What do you want as a reward?" She tilted her head and asked him with confusion.
" Maybe a kiss " Xu Ziyu said with laughter in his voice. Lu Quinzue threw daggers with his eyes to him.
" Ohhhh that " Xia Yingying said with shyness. Xia Yingying saw that Xu Ziyu didn't have that distant look on his face. It seems like he was saying ' take over now ' to Lu Quinzue. It was only her and Lu Quinzue that knew that the marriage was contractual. She sighed and looked away.
Lu Quinzue looked at Xu Ziyu with annoyance, his reward was denied. Xu Ziyu just shrugged and said " it seems you finished them off before I came. I misplaced my car keys "
" Of course, I finished them off. Well, almost until someone interfered " Xia Yingying looked at Lu Quinzue with a pout.
Lu Quinzue couldn't help chuckling. He walked to her and patted her head like she was a little kid.
" You finished them off?" Xu Ziyu said with surprised. From the look of it, this gangsters weren't ordinary people. But he knew that it was nothing to Lu Quinzue. And Xia Yingying's slate was too clean even with the investigation he did. That's why he directed his talk to Lu Quinzue instead. This lady wasn't as easy as she looked.
" Mmmm" Lu Quinzue said and walked towards Xu Ziyu car with the key in his hands. Xu Ziyu was furious when he saw this. He has been searching for the key not knowing Lu Quinzue had it all along.
Xia Yingying laughed at Xu Ziyu's expression. Maybe that was Lu Quinzue's way for dealing with Xu Ziyu ( for his past wrongs).
Xia Yingying and Xu Ziyu reached the Bentley while Lu Quinzue started the car. Lu Quinzue saw them together. He felt like they were a match made in heaven. His expression changed as a result of this thought. Lu Quinzue got up from the driver's seat and used his eyes to tell Xu Ziyu to get in.
" Fine " Xu Ziyu whispered as he rolled his eyes. Lu Quinzue got seated at the back looking at Xia Yingying with anticipation but she closed the back seat then walked to to front to seat at the back.
This scene made Lu Quinzue stunned and ultimately received a chuckle from Xu Ziyu. The car temperature dropped drastically low. Xia Yingying could feel the cold aura coming from the back seat. She was somewhat agitated but decided to act like she was oblivious to his anger.
Though, Lu Quinzue appeared calm at the surface. In her past life, she overheard that Lu Quinzue was always at his calmest when he's very much angry. That's what she termed 'calm before the storm'.
Lu Quinzue picked his phone, dialled a number.
" I'll interview the thugs myself " with that Lu Quinzue hung up.
"Tsk" Xu Ziyu made a sound. Those things were sure going to receive a hard time.
Xia Yingying knew all along but what she didn't understand was why he was so possessive towards her. She should have felt better but it made her more uneasy. Didn't he say they should stay clear from each other's path_? Ohhh, he was a very proud man, he wouldn't want to see her being too close to the opposite gender.
The car drove inside the mansion, Xu Ziyu bid them farewell.
" Aren't you staying for the night? It's late already" Xia Yingying said. Lu Quinzue's eyes darkened when he heard this. Why would she want another man to stay over ? If he didn't know better he would think that something was definitely going on between them.
" No, I'll pass" Xu Ziyu said as he saw warning gaze from Lu Quinzue. Xia Yingying turned her head to Lu Quinzue. Lu Quinzue stared at her and said " it's his choice. Let's respect it" Xu Ziyu rolled his eyes, when has the President Lu ever been respectful to his choices and decisions.
" Okay, that's true but be careful on your way back. " Xia Yingying said .
When they parted Xia Yingying saw that girl with rounded glasses looking up towards them as they reached the door.
" Young master, I was so worried about you " she rushed towards him acting so panicked. " I noticed the guards didn't follow you behind, what will I do if grandma ma finds out, it's past midnight already. My salary would be cut short. My mom would be so angry at me.
" she continued in a tear streaked face.
The dark shades on her eyes showed that she has stayed up just to wait for them. Lu Quinzue felt a little sympathy towards her. Her mother has worked as Lu's cook for some years now. She was originally Lu Quinzue's nanny. So, they did have some bonding. Lu Quinzue actually sees her as a second mother figure.
Lu Quinzue lips was in a straight line. He wasn't an entirely heartless person ( to people he knew didn't deserve unfairness). " Your salary would be increased and next time don't stay up to late" Lu Quinzue said.
A strange light pass Xia Yingying's eyes. It wasn't that she didn't want a raise of salaries for his workers but some people needs to be put in their place. There was something funny about that dark circles around her eyes.
" Shouldn't you also make decisions with your wife " Xia Yingying said a smile that didn't look like a smile.
