Three knocks on the door.
Loud ones.
It wasn't Aria. It had to be someone else. There was no chance that my maid would be knocking on my door so loudly in the middle of the night. There was a good chance that it was someone from the King asking for me.
I pulled away from Elena's embrace and told her to get back in bed and act as if she were sleeping.
I needed to make sure that our relationship stayed a secret from the King. Once I was inside the Academy, that would be fine. But that was definitely not the case for the moment. There were still a few days before my enrollment would begin and my role as a guard would commence.
I walked to the door and creaked it open, acting as if I had just woken up.
"Hello? What is happening?"
A maid whose name I did not know was standing there, looking extremely serious.
"The King has asked for your presence; please follow me right away."
"Should I change?" I asked her.
