Episode 84: "Subject X Awakens"
---
The scream echoed like a siren through the underground chambers.
Not from fear.
From rebirth.
Inside the cryo-vault, alarms blared as containment systems failed one after another. Steam hissed from ruptured pipes, casting fog over the ancient machinery. A girl stepped out of the tank — barefoot, her skin glistening with liquid stasis gel, long white hair cascading down her back.
Her eyes? Gold.
Glowing, fierce, unblinking.
"Subject X is online," a robotic voice reported in the empty chamber.
But no one was left to hear.
The girl took a breath. The oxygen seemed to respond — igniting faint sparks in the air around her. Like flame and wind bowed to her will.
She looked at her reflection in a cracked monitor.
Not frightened.
Curious.
Then she walked.
Alarms kept screaming, but none of it mattered now.
The Flame had awakened.

Resistance Base – Kara's Quarters
Kara jolted awake, her skin damp with sweat. Her breath came in gasps, and her heart pounded wildly.
She'd seen something in her dream — a girl wrapped in light and fire, breaking out of a cryo-tube.
Her face was unfamiliar, yet… somehow familiar.
She rubbed her temples.
Was it a memory? A vision?
Or something worse?
A soft knock interrupted her thoughts.
Adrian stepped in. "You okay? Tessa said you didn't come to the debrief."
Kara nodded slowly. "Yeah. Just... weird dream."
He didn't press. Instead, he handed her a datachip. "Recon drone picked up heat signatures from the Lazarus Citadel. A cryo-lock broke open. No sign of Vane, but... something came out. We don't know what yet."
Her fingers clenched around the chip.
"It wasn't a dream then."

Later — War Room
Tessa zoomed in on satellite images — a wasteland surrounding the Citadel, and then… footsteps.
Small. Bare.
And scorched into the concrete.
"Whoever it was, they walked out of a cryo-vault built two decades ago," Tessa said, clearly shaken. "Power was diverted from Lazarus' main core just to wake her."
Kara stared at the screen. "She's not just a weapon. She's the weapon. Origin Flame."
Nemesis folded his arms. "I thought Subject X was a myth."
"No," Kara whispered. "She's real. And she's connected to me."
Tessa looked between them. "What do you mean?"
Kara hesitated. "I saw her. In my dreams. The same way I used to see memories... when I was regaining mine."
Adrian frowned. "You think she's like you?"
Kara shook her head. "No. I think... I'm like her."

Unknown Location — Forest Outskirts
The girl walked barefoot through a burned forest. Trees parted as she passed. Fireflies circled her like they knew her name.
She wasn't lost.
She was exploring.
The wind whispered through the trees, and with each breath she took, small flames danced in her palms — gentle, flickering, alive.
She heard a voice in her head — faint, like an old recording.
"You are the last hope. The pure fire. When the world forgets its soul, you must remind it what it fears."
She stopped walking.
And smiled.

Back at the Resistance Base
Adrian paced in front of Kara's room. "You really think this Subject X is linked to your past?"
Kara nodded. "Yes. I can feel her — like her presence is waking something in me. Something I thought was buried."
He stepped closer. "Then we need to find her before Lazarus does."
Tessa appeared at the door. "Too late. Satellite just picked up three Lazarus drones tracking her movements. If we don't get to her first, they will."
Kara's eyes darkened. "Then we move now."

Final Scene — Subject X Stands on a Cliff
She watched the sunrise.
For the first time in her life, she felt warmth not from the machines, but from the world itself.
Her gold eyes narrowed.
Behind her, Lazarus drones broke through the trees.
Her flames flared.
No fear.
Only fury.
They would learn what it meant to awaken fire.
