Chapter 30 - FTRJ: Chapter 30

"And because of Makarov's poor supervision, Guild Master Makarov must write a ten-thousand-word apology. Ten thousand!!" The chairman seemed to fear Makarov hadn't heard, repeating the number loudly.

Makarov's already wide-open mouth stretched even wider, big enough to swallow a child.

"Submit it, and you can collect them," the chairman said, then fell silent. Yajima, a Council member and Makarov's friend, gave Makarov a reassuring look.

The projection vanished.

Yajima's look reassured Makarov. It was serious, but probably just a formality.

Except…

"Ten thousand words…when will I finish?" Makarov despaired. He felt like giving up on life.

For days, Makarov wrote furiously, locked in his room. The long apology on his desk was the result.

"Finally done," Makarov felt a surge of accomplishment.

"Only I could write a ten-thousand-word apology," he boasted.

Then he thought, "Wait, why am I proud of this?" He threw the apology back on the desk.

"I need to get those kids out. Who knows what they're going through?" Makarov gathered his things and left.

The Magic Council (ERA) maintained order in the magic world.

Makarov arrived at the entrance.

Frog-like creatures emerged. "Guild Master Makarov, please follow us."

Makarov grabbed one. "How are my guild members?"

The creature said strangely, "Guild Master Makarov, don't worry. They're fine. Submit the apology, and you can take them."

"Oh, good, good," Makarov nodded. As long as they were alright, an apology was nothing. This was probably more than he'd written in two years.

He followed them inside.

After some paperwork, Yajima took Makarov to see Finn and Mirajane.

On the way, Yajima chuckled. "Makarov, your guild members are interesting."

Makarov looked at his friend questioningly.

Yajima continued, "Two people caused chaos in the Council. That's a first."

"Oh, that's why the chairman looked like he wanted to eat me," Makarov nodded.

He continued walking, then shouted, "What? They caused chaos?"

Makarov stared at Yajima, dumbfounded.

He felt a heart attack coming. They were so bold.

Yajima patted Makarov's shoulder. "Don't worry. The Council didn't get the better of them."

"The old geezers compromised," Yajima said happily, as if he weren't a Council member.

They soon arrived at Finn and Mirajane's "detention."

Makarov looked around, confused. "Is this a cell?"

It wasn't a cell; it was a…

Luxury hotel. If this weren't the Council, Makarov would think a night here cost a fortune.

"Haha, it's all thanks to Finn. He said if they didn't get good accommodations, they'd leave. The Council couldn't stop them, so they complied," Yajima said, amazed.

"The Council needs to keep up appearances," he added.

"That brat," Makarov chuckled, but his pride was evident.

The lock was released.

Finn emerged reluctantly, cheerfully greeting Makarov. "Yo, Master, you came!"

Mirajane rushed out. "Finn, you wouldn't believe how comfortable my cell was!" She smiled happily.

Finn replied, "It was way better than our place. I wonder if we'll get another chance to stay here."

Makarov's pride vanished. He shouldn't have rescued them.

Were they serious? He'd stayed up nights writing a ten-thousand-word apology. He'd rushed here to rescue them without even sleeping.

And they were comfortable?

Makarov was furious. "Old friend, please put them back. I can't stand these brats."

Before Yajima could answer, the frog-like guard said, "Guild Master Makarov, please take them."

"They've spent nearly 400,000Jewels in a few days! They demanded the best food and accommodations. If they didn't get delicacies, they'd throw a fit. We can't handle it!"

Yajima shrugged. "Makarov, take them back."

"Yeah, Master, home is better," Mirajane said sheepishly.

"Yeah, I miss everyone," Finn agreed.

Makarov glared at them. "You two brats! Wait till I get you home!"

On the way back, Makarov said, "Explain. How did you destroy a city?"

Mirajane raised her hand. "It was mostly me."

Makarov didn't believe her. Finn could do it, but not Mirajane.

Finn glared at Mirajane. "But I did it."

Makarov nodded. If it was Finn, it was fine.

He gestured for Finn to continue.

"We had a clear division of labor. I fought Hades, Mirajane cleared the city's monsters. It was going well, but Hades was strong."

"I had to use Ryūjin Jakka. You know it causes destruction. I almost defeated Hades."

"Then he flew towards Mirajane, trying to use her as a hostage. He failed and she took him over."

Mirajane said, "His consciousness tried to take over my mind, and I went berserk."

"Finn stopped me," she added. Makarov looked worried. "You said his consciousness tried to take over your mind?"

"What happened to it?"

Mirajane thought. "I don't know. Like my first Satan Soul Take Over. Hades' consciousness vanished."

Makarov pondered but couldn't understand. As long as she was fine, it was good. This mission might even have been beneficial for her.

He asked, "Can you use Hades' power now?"

Finn said, "No. Mirajane's magic is too low. Hades' power is strong, but it consumes a lot of magic. Mirajane used one move and ran out of magic."

That night, Mirajane and Lisanna talked.

"Mirajane, did you get Finn?" Lisanna asked excitedly.

Mirajane sighed. "He's a dense guy. You have to tell him directly." She punched her rabbit plushie.

"No progress?" Lisanna asked.

Mirajane shook her head.

"Why didn't you tell him?"

"I couldn't! My heart raced. I couldn't speak," Mirajane said, blushing.

"Even thinking about it makes you blush?" Lisanna shook her head in disappointment.

Mirajane's face was red as an apple.

"I really couldn't!"

Finn was reading "The Complete Book of Fire Magic" from the Fairy Tail library. He wanted to learn more basic magic. He could only use his body against weak enemies, and his ultimate moves against stronger ones.

But his ultimate moves caused too much destruction. This time, he'd destroyed a city, losing the reward money.

He'd learned basic magic before, but it was too weak. He could punch opponents he could defeat with fireballs.

He tossed the book. "What's this nonsense? So hard!"

"I'll ask Master tomorrow," He tossed the book aside and went to sleep.
