Chapter 9
It is now five days to my wedding and to be honest, my life has been literally on hold, I am at a point where I don't know what to do.
There is the issue of my marriage with Jude and my encounter with Benjen Luwin. Luwin is on one side telling me to stop my marriage with Jude and help him break some curse while Jude is here on the other side, professing love which I am now begining to think is fake
I feel like Jude cares less about me, he literally hasn't visited in two days now. We only meet during breakfast and after that, it's no more. He would go out and stay out till late.
Meanwhile Luwin... He's such a nice man. And I think he cares about me because he looks out for me and makes me feel comfortable. I just wish I can help him as soon as possible. I need to discover my powers.
But what if I have no power? What if I am a human after all? It will be so disappointing because I really want to help Luwin.
I can recall when he took me to see his body. It was so beautiful to behold. His long healthy black shiny hair, his smooth and bright skin. Looking at him now, one can easily tell that that he had suffered enough.
Maybe I should find out for myself. I should find out if truly I am not a human as Luwin had said earlier.
There is only one person who could help me and that person is Mr Green, the powerful scoccerer way back in my father's kingdom. How do I get to him?
Instead, I would discover another great scoccerer around. There should be one in this kingdom.
I called a maid who quickly responded to my call.
"My lady?" She bowed.
"I was wondering if there were any scoccerers around?"
"Um... There is one. Mr young. He lives one kilometer east from the town square. Is there any problem?"
"No there isn't. Where is Jude?"
"The whole family is it for hunting" the maid bowed her head in respect.
"Hunting?" I was confused. A part of me strongly believed that there was more to this 'hunting'
"By hunting, you mean ...?"
"For humans, they enjoy fresh blood from humans and the catch makes it fun, according to lady Luisa"
Lady Luisa, that's Jude's sister.
"Oh... Okay. You may leave." I acted cool and dismissed the maid but when the maid had gone, I could not contain my disgust.
"How very disgusting of them. "
I am not scared or irritated by vampires but just the thought of them drinking blood freaks me out, especially human blood.
I had to locate this Mr young. Definitely he would tell me something about my true self if he was real sorcerer but that would be later.
I got up from my bed and walked out.
"Do you need something, my lady?" A maid suddenly asked, startling me a little.
"Are you always at my door step?" I asked and she nodded.
"Oh... Can you take me to Jude's room?"
"This way my lady" the maid obeyed without protesting. She led me up the stairs to the upper floor and led me into a beautiful door with neat carvings.
"This is his chamber"
For a moment, I thought she would take me to that room from which I heard moans that night, I guess it probably wasn't Jude that night...
My eyes wandered around the lounge and truthfully it was so large and beautiful. I walked into the bedroom and another round of amazement washed over me.
I saw some portraits of him, a life size portrait of Jude and then a small portrait of someone else. A lady, very beautiful.
"Who is she?" I asked the maid who stood at the entrance.
She looked at the portrait but said nothing.
"Is this perhaps one of his sisters?" I asked but she shook head in the negative.
"Then.... " I trailed off as I began to think it through.
"That was his finance" I heard the maid say and turned to her.
"Fiance? What happened to her? Where is she?"
"She returned back home" the maid said.
I stared at the maid for a prolonged period of time and she began to shake a little in discomfort, scratching her arm and neck. She wasn't saying the truth.
"Hmm, I wonder why she left" I moved round the room a while before leaving, still wondering what happened to that lady. Something doesn't seem right with the way the maid responded.
When it was around 4pm, the castle was still empty. They had not returned from their gruesome hunting. I decided to go and find Mr young.
I got dressed in a casual wear, a black shirt and black long skirt with a white scarf on my head.
I went outside and searched for my coach man Duncan. He had always been my coachman food as long as I can remember. I'm glad he's here with me because I trust him.
"Duncan? I called in the guards area and he came running.
"I need to find Mr young. He's a scoccerer around here"
"Do you need the carriage?"
"No, just the horse would do. "
"Okay, I will get it ready"
"Please hurry "
He left and returned back with the beautiful white horse.
"Please help me up" I climbed up and he pulled me up on the horse in front of him. I didn't know how to ride a horse, thanks to father. He always wanted me to be an epitome of a typical Princess.
I directed Duncan and in about twenty minutes, we were at a small cottage house, not too far away from the town square.
I walked into the small cottage but to my greatest surprise, the inside was much more bigger that the appearance. There was even an information desk with an attendant.
"Good day miss" the young man said to me.
"Hi, I'm here to see the scoccerer"
"Scoccerer?" He asked and I nodded.
"Name?"
"I was told that he goes by the name Mr young"
"Oh, Mr young. He is actually a Wizard, not a scoccerer. Don't make that mistake, he doesn't like to be called a scoccerer"
"Oh, thanks" I nodded.
"Go in, take a left and then a right. Second door by the left" he sang fluently like a song as he wrote something down on a paper.
"Oh .. okay, thanks" I followed his instructions and stood in front of huge a door.
"Come in" I heard, I had not even knocked yet.
I pushed the door and went in .
"Good day, lady. How may I help you? Have a seat" the man wasn't what I was expecting. He was advanced in age.
"Thank you " I sat down on the sofa and watched him as he organized his office with only a swing of his hand.
"Come hither, sit on the opposite chair"
"Oh..." I moved and sat on the chair opposite him, there was a table between us, his work table.
"I need to know if I am a human or if I'm not a human"
"Oh wow, what a rare case" he suspended his hand in the air with an open palm and within two seconds, a big book floated from his shelf and landed on his hand.
"Wow" I was amazed.
"So, is there anything abnormal you have noticed?"
"No"
"Have you accidentally casted any spell?"
"No I have not "
"Have you done any magic trick?"
"No"
"Any changes in your body? Elongated nails, ears, red eyes, black eyes, scales, any?"
"No sir, non at all"
He then lifted his head from the book and stared at me
"Why do you want to find out if your not a human?"
"Someone told me that I am not a human "
"And have you asked that person why?"
"He didn't say much but he insisted that I am not a human "
"Hmm... Give me your hand " he stretched out his hand and I placed mine in it"
"Nothing. I don't sense any power in you" he said.
"Oh... Wow, okay"
"But, is there any chance that I might not be human?"
"It depends on your family. Who is your father if I may ask?"
"He is king Lucas of the northern kingdom"
"King Lucas?" He seemed surprised.
"Yes, Lucas Archwin Danté "
"Oh my.... Good grievance! Are you perhaps Moriah Archwin Danté?"
"Yes, I am. "
"Oh... My dear, I presume you do not know who your father truly is. I would advice you to ask him yourself, child. I will not be the one to break the news to you. But you ought to have known by now. Do you not know of your assignment?"
"Is it about El Mazikeen Benjen Luwin?"
"Oh you know? He has reached out to you already. You don't have much time, my dear and you better not get married to anyone else"
"But ...Why?" I remembered Luwin telling me not to marry Jude but I didn't know why, I just thought he kind of admired me.
"Because if you do, you won't be able to help him anymore and he would be stuck in his agony, suffering and heartbreak. You cannot do that to him. He has waited years patiently for you "
"For me?"
"Yes, be quick now, child. Approach your father and seek the truth from him. Go now, time is not on your side"
"You must lift the curse"
