Chapter 1 - Jealousy

Hi, I'm Liliana Hart.

This story? It's about how I fell in love—with the person I least expected. It started one blurry night at karaoke with my college friends. Music, drinks, laughter... and complicated feelings.

I sat beside Kane Smith, my best friend and roommate. His auburn hair caught the bar's golden light and his soft toned eyes, and I found myself wondering, not for the first time, why he always made me feel so safe. Meanwhile, Aaron Vander stood in the centre, charming everyone with his deep voice and ridiculous confidence. My secret crush—the guy who made my heart pound every time he looked at me.

"Hey, I'm done singing," Aaron grinned, his blue eyes twinkling and Black hair moving slightly. "Why don't you go next?"

I hesitated, feeling a little queasy.

"Nah, bro. She's tired," Kane interjected, resting his hand on mine. His voice was calm, protective.

Aaron looked a little disappointed, but nodded. "Right. Just thought I'd ask."

After a while, Kane and I decided to leave. Maybe it was the alcohol, or the late-night haze, but as we walked, I looked up at Kane.

"You're beautiful," I murmured.

He blinked in surprise. "You sure you're not drunk-talking right now?"

"Maybe. Or maybe I've just always felt this way."

His eyes softened. "Have you fallen for me now, Lily?"

I didn't answer. Instead, I leaned in, curious, uncertain. Our lips met. The kiss was warm and familiar—and yet something inside me felt… off. As if someone was watching.

I pulled away, suddenly dizzy with doubt.

"Let's go home," I whispered.

Unbeknownst to us, behind a corner wall, Aaron stood still, clutching my forgotten purse.

"They were kissing..." he muttered to himself, his jaw tense.

He didn't understand it—this sharp ache blooming in his chest. He never thought he felt that way about me. But now? Watching me with Kane? He wasn't so sure anymore.
