Chapter 21 - If This Is Lyon, Let It Never End

– Rue Mercière, Mid-Morning –

Selene is laughing uncontrollably as Evan runs toward her holding a ridiculously oversized cone of cotton candy.

Evan:

"I stole it from a child. Worth it?"

Selene (giggling):

"What really?"

Evan:

"Nah,, I'm kidding"

He tears a piece off, offers it to her, brushing his fingers against her lips—slow, teasing. She eats it.

– Traboules of Vieux Lyon –

They run hand-in-hand through the hidden passageways, sunlight breaking through cracks above.

Selene (panting):

"You know this is illegal trespassing?"

Evan (grinning):

"Not when you're with a local criminal

like you."

He presses her against the old stone wall and kisses her—soft, deep, slow. Her hands knot in his shirt.

Footsteps echo. They pull away, breathless and laughing like teenagers.

– A Small Bistro, Afternoon –

They sit outside, knees touching, eating croissants and sipping wine.

Evan:

"Serious question. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life—"

Selene (cutting in):

"Chocolate."

Evan:

"—I thought you were gonna say (kiss me), but sure. Chocolate's cool too."

She rolls her eyes. He leans in anyway. She meets him halfway.

– Lyon Cathedral Steps –

They're sitting on the steps, looking down at the city, her head on his shoulder.

Selene:

"Did you ever think we'd find each other again?"

Evan (softly):

"I think part of me never stopped looking."

She doesn't respond—just laces her fingers with his.

– Park Fountain, Golden Hour –

They chase each other around the fountain like it's a movie. She splashes him. He grabs her waist and lifts her off the ground. Her laughter echoes through the garden.

Evan (spinning her):

"Marry me."

Selene (laughing):

"You're insane."

He kisses her forehead.

– Rooftop of Evan's Apartment, Nightfall –

They sit on the edge, legs dangling. The city lights shimmer below them. A blanket is wrapped around their shoulders. A bottle of wine between them.

Selene:

"Are we always going to be like this?"

Evan:

"What, drunk and illegally on rooftops?"

Selene (smiling):

"No. This... us. You and me, running, kissing, holding hands like we're characters in someone else's story."

He leans in, kisses her—slow, full of every word he hasn't said yet.

Then, suddenly, he broke the kiss with a crooked grin, still holding her hand.

"Come on."

He tugged her gently toward the stairs.

They laughed as they stumbled down, stopping halfway when he pinned her lightly to the wall between two floors, kissing her again like he couldn't wait till they reached the bottom., quick and breathless.

Then they were moving — down the last few steps, through the hallway — until they reached his place, the door clicking shut behind them, sealing the night in with them.

Evan led her through the dimly lit apartment, their laughter lost between kisses, coats hitting the floor along the way.

By the time they reached his room, he grabbed her gently by the waist and dropped her onto the bed, the mattress giving beneath her with a soft thud.

He crawled over her slowly, eyes never leaving hers, his breath uneven.

"I can't control myself any longer," he whispered, voice rough with want — but his body still waiting, still asking.

Selene didn't answer with words.

She grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, pulled him down, and kissed him like she meant it — like she wanted him just as much.

He kissed her forehead. She looked up, their eyes locking in that quiet silence that held more than words ever could.

"Come here," he whispered, brushing a strand of hair from her face.

She moved closer, their lips meeting again—slow, unhurried, like they had all the time in the world now. His hand slid over the curve of her waist beneath the fabric of her sweatshirt, fingertips grazing her skin as if memorizing it. She let out a soft breath, her fingers gripping his arm, grounding herself in the moment.

Selene's hands moved up his chest, fingers slipping beneath the fabric. She pulled his shirt over his head and tossed it aside without a word.

Evan leaned in, his hand gently resting on the hem of her sweatshirt, eyes asking before his hands moved.

But she stopped him.

"Don't take mine off," she said softly, her voice almost a whisper.

He paused. Just looked at her for a moment — not with confusion, but understanding.

Then he nodded once, and bent down, his lips brushing her neck. Slow. Careful. As if to say, I hear you.

Selene smiled faintly, biting her bottom lip.

He kissed her again, slower this time. Reverent.

She pulled him in tighter, legs tangling with his, her hand sliding up the bare skin of his back, feeling the warmth of him, the strength, the softness in the way he held her.

Evan's lips moved down her jaw, to her neck, drawing shivers across her spine. He murmured her name softly into her skin, as if he was afraid it might be the last time.

"I missed you," he said, voice barely above a whisper.

Selene swallowed, her hand resting against his cheek. she replied. "I missed you too."

There was nothing rushed in the way their bodies moved. Just heat, tenderness, tension unraveling. Their kisses deepened, hands exploring gently, breathing heavier now. She let herself feel everything—his touch, his weight, the way his hands steadied her hips, the sound of his heartbeat under her ear.

The morning sun spilled softly across the sheets, catching in the curve of Selene's cheek. Her eyes fluttered open as she stirred against Evan's chest. For a moment, she just lay there—watching him sleep, his arms wrapped protectively around her, his breath warm and slow.

A small smile tugged at her lips. She leaned in, brushing her lips gently against his in a soft morning kiss.

Evan stirred, smiling without opening his eyes. "Mmm," he murmured sleepily, "I could wake up like this forever."

Selene chuckled, pressing another kiss to his jaw. "Okay, Romeo, I'm late."

He cracked one eye open. "Late?"

She was already slipping out of the bed, "Work. Real world. You know, those things you tend to run from."

Evan stretched lazily and smirked. "Wait, I'm coming with you."

She paused, raising an eyebrow. "With me? To my office?"

"No," he said, rolling out of bed and pulling his hoodie on, "to take a shower with you."

Selene burst out laughing. "You're ridiculous."

He grinned, pulling on his shoes as he followed her out of his place, their laughter echoing through the hallway. She walked ahead, playfully trying to outrun him.

"Wait up!" Evan called, teasing.

"Evan!" she giggled over her shoulder, her hair bouncing as she picked up pace.

But as she reached her door, her steps slowed. Her laughter faded.

The door was unlocked.

Selene's smile dropped. Her body stiffened, her breath caught.

Evan noticed instantly. "Selene?" he said quietly, stepping closer, suddenly alert.

She pushed the door open slowly.

There, sitting on the chair in her living room like he owned the place—was Liam.

"Princess," Liam said,
