Chapter 6 - The Pact, the Blade, and the First Task

His muscles tightened.

His body felt stronger—more solid with each breath. The land of Cumbria was now visible below.

His position, which had been diving headfirst, began to shift. His legs were now forward—and without any hesitation or fear of injury,

Joe smiled.

"Let's see how strong this body is."

Brugghh…

The ground cracked open.

His newly forged physique struck the soil of Cumbria—knees slightly bent, earth shattering beneath his landing.

But not a single injury.

He stood tall.

And took a step forward.

The Scroll of Edict didn't stir.

Not even a quiver.

Joe slowly pulled his foot free from the crater it made, straightened his posture, and marched forward—eyes locked on the strange, open landscape of this new world.

"Fantasy world, huh?"

He grinned.

He stepped forth—one step, then another, then one more…

Suddenly, the scroll that had remained completely still began to tremble.

A sharp yet gentle sound rang out—like the chime of a bell from an altar far above the clouds.

Cling! Cling!

Then—

~~~
My Master....
~~~

The voice returned.

Softer this time.

~~~
Would you like to see your divine status? As the envoy of The First Who Cum...
~~~

Joe stopped.

"Absolutely," he answered quickly.

"Information's everything, right?"

~~~
As expected. You are eager. A noble trait, if not tainted by lust.
~~~

The scroll unfurled slowly, like a silk cloth gliding through the air.

Lines of shimmering text began to appear—

not written, but formed directly from light.

~~~
Joe narrowed his eyes.
"Wait—rupture? You mean, break?"
~~~

Yes.

Overflowing shall lead to a Divine Overcharge.

The pact shall reverse.

What was meant to bless… shall rebound as wrath.

~~~
Joe blinked.
"…So if I go over 100, you'll curse my family?"
~~~

Incorrect.

The curse will not come from Me…

But from the broken symmetry of the Pact itself.

For a vessel that defies divine proportion is no longer a vessel,

But a heresy.

~~~
Joe winced.
"So I'm a divine USB stick with limited storage. Go past 100%, and the file corrupts and nukes my family folder."
~~~

Correct.

Ascend to raise your capacity.

~~~
Joe sighed, eyes on the horizon.
"Got it. Don't let my soul hit 101%. Be a good uncle. Don't explode. Easy."
Joe was still staring at the floating paper of light when, suddenly—
~~~~

Notice:

Soul Integrity shall reset at midday

on the fifteenth day of each divine cycle.

The words appeared slowly, as if they were still being contemplated by the heavens themselves.

All Verses consume Soul Integrity.

Every verse is sacred. Every use, a toll.

Each Verse awakens or slumbers as demanded by the moment.

Be wise, My Master.

For power without wisdom is blasphemy with flair.

~~~~
Joe nodded slowly.
"Noted," he muttered—more to himself than anyone else.
~~~~

Divine Task Initialized.

~~~~
New text appeared—the letters bolder, larger, carrying a weight of presence:
~~~~~

📜 First Divine Task:

Bring Peace to the Forsaken Village.

The village lies beyond the wooded hills.

It shelters those who rejected the bloodlines.

Misunderstood. Hunted. Unprotected.

Bring them safety.

Offer them dignity.

Walk northward.

And heed every cry for help you encounter along the way.

~~~~
Joe squinted, reading the last line with an inner voice instead of his outer one.
"So it's not just about saving a village… I'm not allowed to ignore side quests either, huh?"
~~~~~

Correct.

This is not a mission of conquest.

But of compassion.

~~~~
Joe clicked his tongue, then took a long breath.
"Okay, okay… so walk north, play hero, don't spam magic, and definitely don't explode."
He stared ahead toward the vast horizon—
the color of the sky shifting ever so slightly,
as if welcoming his next step.
"Cumbria, here comes your Holy Unc.
Anyway… which way is north?"
~~~~

Follow the flight of the eagle.

~~~~
A sharp kreeekk! echoed in the sky.
An eagle soared overhead—graceful and confident, cutting a line toward the northern sky.
"Alright, so that way."
Joe turned to face the same direction.
And then, he walked. Step by step through this new, uncharted land.
The air in Cumbria felt… denser.
But somehow fresher.
And then—suddenly—
Clink.
Joe felt something heavy pulling at his right hand.
Reflexively, he looked down.
"What the…?"
A long silver blade—elegant and deadly—began forming.
It emerged slowly, forged from light and steel, until it became fully solid.
The hilt adjusted to Joe's grip perfectly,
as if the sword had known him since birth.
~~~~

My Master…

~~~~
The voice of the Scroll of Edict returned,
deeper this time, more resonant.
~~~~

Your will… is strong. That's why the blade responded.

~~~~
Joe raised an eyebrow—then grinned wide.
"Of course it did."
With full confidence, he lifted the blade to rest it across his shoulder— the way off-duty anime heroes do when they're about to vibe through a cutscene.
But then—
FWUUUSHHH!
A red beam of light burst from the Scroll of Edict, illuminating the right side of Joe's face in an urgent glow.
Joe froze. His eyes narrowed.
"…What the hell was that?"
~~~~

My Master…

Do not do that.

Do you wish to slice your own neck?

~~~~
Joe went silent for a beat.
Then he let out a short laugh—one choked halfway by how absurdly logical it was.
"Shit," he muttered. "What a logic…"
