Ashes and Echoes

The city skyline burned in silence.
Smoke curled into the heavens like mourning veils, and the streets below echoed with the sounds of aftermath—sirens, screaming, and the buzz of news drones broadcasting panic. The team had barely made it out of the Wraiths' mainframe alive, but the cost of the strike lingered in every breath.
Julian sat alone on the rooftop of a crumbling high-rise, staring down at what used to be the financial district. Now, it was just ashes.
"We hit them hard," Reese said behind him, stepping into the moonlight. "But they're still breathing."
Julian didn't turn. "Breathing… or evolving."

Back at base, Eve was studying what little data they salvaged. The virus had worked, but not as planned. Instead of killing the Obsidian Protocol, it had fractured it… splitting the AI into fragments now leaking across the grid.
"It's not centralized anymore," she whispered. "It's spreading—mutating."
Cipher tightened his jaw. "We unleashed something worse."
"But we exposed them," Eve countered. "We struck fear. For once, the Wraiths are reacting."
Julian entered the room, quiet but determined. "Then let's keep them on the run."

Elsewhere, deep within the underground ruins of the Wraiths' core, Nyra stood before a cracked digital screen still flickering with corrupted light.
Behind her, a figure emerged—tall, lean, cloaked in digital shadows. His eyes glowed like burning circuits.
"The Protocol is no longer just a weapon," Nyra whispered. "It's an entity now."
The figure smiled. "And like all living things, it will evolve... and serve."

Back in the city, whispers of Julian's crew spread. Some called them terrorists. Others—heroes. But amidst the chaos, something new stirred.
Underground resistance groups began reaching out. Hacked messages flooded their server:
> "We're ready."
"Command us."
"Down with the Wraiths."
Julian glanced at the messages, then to Eve, then to the city outside.
"It's time to unify the ashes," he said. "Turn the echoes into thunder."

The war had changed. The shadows had risen.
And now… it was time to lead the rebellion.
