Chapter 1 - 1: Squinting Eyes Hide Power

Konoha

Ninja school

"If you fail the Transformation Technique test today, you run ten laps around the playground." Ryo, in a chunin vest, limped to the podium and shouted.

"Why another test? We just had one!" Students at neat desks whispered.

"Enemies do not test you. These check your training to help you survive." Ryo raised his voice. "Kakashi, go first."

"Wow, Kakashi's first again. On purpose," a chubby boy with spiky hair said.

"Kakashi's a genius. Want to go, loser who cannot do the Transformation Technique?" another student snapped.

"Why always Kakashi? What about Dosuke?" The chubby boy stared.

"Dosuke, try! Beat Kakashi!"

"Hey." Dosuke sighed, blew his bangs, and ignored him.

Kakashi, son of "White Fang," was outstanding. While students argued, he used the Transformation Technique, becoming Dosuke in a gray high-collar shirt, white shorts, and ninja boots. His version lacked Dosuke's lazy vibe but felt intense.

"Your turn!" Kakashi, as Dosuke, stared with blank eyes.

Dosuke stood, adjusted his shorts, and formed a hand sign. Tap. He became Kakashi.

"Is this okay?" Dosuke's Kakashi asked, mimicking the blank eyes.

"Great job," Ryo said. "The Transformation Technique can save you among enemies. Go back."

Pop. Pop. They released their transformations, passing each other.

"When do we fight?" Kakashi whispered.

Kakashi eyed Dosuke: pale, skinny, soft-looking. How could he tie for first? Should this weak guy not be last?

"I do not want to fight. Did Guy not want to battle you?" Dosuke sat and said to Kakashi.

"I am number one. How can you equal me?" Kakashi glared at Dosuke's thin arms.

"Oh."

"Guy, Kakashi wants to fight you. It has been a while." Dosuke turned to Guy.

"Yeah, Kakashi, a real man's fight!" Guy stood, hand on hip, finger pointing. "Let's go, Kakashi-kun!"

"Guy, what are you doing?" Ryo shouted. "Pass the test. Get up!"

"No need, teacher. I have not learned the Transformation Technique. I will run ten laps. No, my youth burns! Twenty laps!" Guy sprinted out.

"Kakashi, I will fight you later!" His voice echoed.

Kakashi watched Guy leave, head aching. He saw Dosuke's squinting smile and thought it looked sneaky.

"Ha, Kakashi, scared? I am the strongest!" A boy in orange sunglasses stood.

"No one challenged you," Rin said, pulling Obito back.

"Another idiot." Kakashi smacked his head, propped his arms on the desk, and ignored everyone, watching other students' transformations.

"Please don't bully Dosuke," Rin said, sitting beside Kakashi after her test.

"Dosuke's just good at book subjects. He is too gentle to fight," Shizune added softly.

Dosuke glanced at Shizune. * Lucky I look okay, or why would girls defend me? * he thought.

"Kakashi, I will join the medical class. Do not ask me to heal you," Dosuke said.

"Who cares? You look frail. Be a medical ninja so others protect you," Kakashi muttered, dozing off.

"Dosuke, really the medical class?" Shizune asked.

"Yes, but it needs strong basics, so I will study more," Dosuke said.

"I can surprise you! I will introduce a strong medical ninja to guide you," Shizune said, tilting her head.

"I look forward to your surprise, Shizune," Dosuke smiled.

The afternoon tests passed quickly. Kakashi did not duel Guy, still running laps at school's end.

Back home.

After dinner, Dosuke sat on his bed, refining chakra.

Two hours later, he felt his chakra. "No effect," he said bitterly.

* How do I survive the Ninja World? Travelers get strong chakra like Senju or Uzumaki. I have plain chakra and no boost. Tough! * he thought.

He tried more, then stopped. Since age four, he refined chakra two hours daily. By five, it grew slightly, never much.

"I will be a medical ninja. I cannot waste my chakra control." Dosuke extended his hand, coating his palm with chakra.

The Mystical Palm Technique, a medical ninjutsu, healed injuries by guiding chakra. It worked fast.

Few in the medical class could use the Mystical Palm Technique. Mastering it marked a skilled medical ninja.

For Dosuke, chakra control was easy.

Tree-climbing and water-walking were simple. He spread chakra on his feet, sticking to trees or walking on water, unlike Naruto and Sasuke's struggles.

Dosuke was a Blue Star traveler. No truck, no meteor—just sleep on a plane, then waking as Dosuke in the Ninja World.

He stopped the Mystical Palm Technique and went out.

Leafy forest.

"Konoha Whirlwind!" Guy swept his leg. Dosuke burst into logs. Pop.

"Substitution Technique!" Guy said.

"Water Release: Water Bullet!" A marble-sized water ball shot forward. Swoosh.

Guy dodged. The ball pierced three trees.

Dosuke pointed at Guy.

"Konoha Strong Fist!" Guy charged, stomped, and punched Dosuke's stomach.

Pop. The punch hit.

A water wall appeared, flowing to block the force.

"Water Release: Water Bullet!"

Swoosh. Swoosh. Swoosh.

Eight water balls zipped over Guy's head, clipping hairs.

"Enough! My Strong Fist always hits your water wall," Guy said, waving his hands.

"Come here. I will heal you. Train less hard," Dosuke said, pointing to stones.

"Hey, I have you!" Guy grinned.

The Mystical Palm Technique's green glow covered Guy's injured hand and arm. Wounds healed fast.

"Without me, what would you do? Thanks, Guy. You helped me master the Mystical Palm Technique," Dosuke said.

He recalled a year ago.
