When Dai Mubai finished his one-on-one match and learned that Zhu Zhuqing had teamed up with Lin Jie for the duo battles, he was so furious he nearly ground his teeth to pieces.
Later, Dai Mubai and Oscar formed a team under the name Twin-Winged White Tiger duo—with Oscar's support, the White Tiger gained wings. Their coordination was flawless, and they easily sent their opponents off the stage.
With six one-on-one matches and four two-on-two matches, the Shrek team had won them all—a perfect start to the night. But the spirit battles weren't over yet. One final event remained: the team battle.
Everyone had already gathered together again. Standing before the eight students, Flender, Zhao Wuji, and Yu Xiaogang all nodded inwardly with satisfaction. These kids really were little monsters.
Yu Xiaogang stepped forward and spoke, "It's time for the team battle. Since we registered a bit late, our turn is near the end. Remember—team battles are not the same as one-on-one or duo battles. Coordination is everything. Only seven can participate in a team battle, so one of you will have to sit this one out."
Oscar immediately spoke up, "I'll sit out this round. With Rongrong providing support, that's enough for us."
Yu Xiaogang gave a small nod of approval at that.
The group then made their way to the designated team battle arena. Compared to the one-on-one and two-on-two stages, the team arena was much larger—complete with a separate rest area for participants.
District Thirteen had five team battles scheduled, and Shrek was set to go last. After resting, it was finally their turn to take the field.
As the Shrek team stepped onto the Spirit Arena, their opponents—the Mad Battle Team—stood across from them.
With both teams in position, the audience erupted in excitement. The crowd roared with chants and cheers that echoed through the arena: "Tear them apart! Crush them!"
The host's voice rang out, calling both sides to prepare their formations.
The Mad Battle Team deployed a 3-1-3 formation. At the forefront stood their captain, Mad Xi, flanked by two burly, middle-aged men who formed a defensive triangle. Behind them stood a seductive-looking woman, protected by the remaining three members.
Shrek, by contrast, adopted a 3-3-1 formation: Dai Mubai, Xiao Wu, and Zhu Zhuqing took the front; Lin Jie, Tang San, and Ma Hongjun stood in the middle; Ning Rongrong brought up the rear.
Once both teams were ready, the host gave the signal, and all combatants released their Martial Souls.
The moment everyone activated their Martial Souls, dazzling lights erupted across the arena. The sheer spectacle of it made it easy to see why spirit battles were so popular.
On Shrek's side, aside from Ma Hongjun, everyone was already at the Spirit Elder rank, and their spirit ring configurations were uniformly two yellow and one purple.
The Mad Battle Team, however, showed a far more uneven composition.
Even the host floating above the arena was visibly shocked by Shrek's impressive spirit rings—but he quickly recovered and moved a safe distance away, clearly a capable Spirit Master himself.
With a wave of his hand, the host signaled the start. Both sides' support-type Spirit Masters were the first to act.
The opposing team's Support Spirit Master raised his hand. A disk appeared in his palm, glowing with light. "Wishful Disk—Radiance of Attack! Wishful Disk—Radiance of Defense!" As he chanted, beams of energy enveloped his six teammates, reinforcing them.
Meanwhile, on Shrek's side, Ning Rongrong's hand gleamed as her Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda appeared.
Smiling calmly, she floated a few inches off the ground and softly chanted:
"Seven Treasures, rise! First—Strength! Second—Speed! Third—Spirit!"
Three spirit rings rose around her—two yellow and one purple—infusing the pagoda with vibrant light. Six beams of radiant energy shot forward, landing on Lin Jie and the other five.
Immediately, the six of them felt their strength and agility surge by thirty percent, and their spirit power increase by fifty percent.
Upon seeing the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda, the Mad Battle Team's expressions shifted drastically. But they had no time to hesitate—the battle had begun, and there was no turning back.
At Mad Xi's command, their entire formation sprang into action.
As Mad Xi activated his Martial Soul, his body expanded to nearly twice its original size. Already muscular, he now looked like he was clad in armor. A single, massive horn sprouted from his forehead, and he roared as he charged directly at Dai Mubai. His two companions followed, their Martial Souls also activated, charging alongside him.
The woman positioned in the center—clearly the core of their team—also released her Martial Soul. To everyone's surprise, it turned out to be a Spider-type Martial Soul.
At that moment, Zhu Zhuqing glanced back at Lin Jie. The two exchanged a silent look of understanding before Zhu Zhuqing turned forward and quietly said, "I'll handle the spider Martial Soul user."
Tang San and the others understood immediately and nodded. Zhu Zhuqing's third spirit ring had come from a Man-Faced Demon Spider—she was the perfect counter. Not to mention, she possessed an external Spirit Bone she had yet to use in battle.
Lin Jie and Tang San, having sparred often, reacted in unison. As the two enemy agility-attackers moved in, Lin Jie summoned his lightning whips, lashing out to intercept them.
Tang San, meanwhile, flicked his wrist. A glint of green light—an expertly thrown hidden weapon—shot toward Mad Xi.
Mad Xi saw the incoming attack and recognized Tang San as a Control-type Spirit Master. Without hesitation, his second spirit ring lit up, and he summoned a glowing wave from his palm. The green light was blasted apart midair.
However, as the fragments fell, Blue Silver Grass suddenly erupted from the ground, forming a massive web that entangled Mad Xi.
At that moment, Xiao Wu dashed into combat with one of the antelope Martial Soul users from the enemy side.
The Mad Battle Team's two agility-type attackers were now intercepted. Mad Xi was trapped. Xiao Wu was keeping the two Defense-type Spirit Masters busy. That left only the spider-wielding woman and the Support Spirit Master in the back.
Zhu Zhuqing shot toward the opposing Support Master with blazing speed. Among the Shrek students, her power was near the top—after all, she had absorbed a two-thousand-year Man-Faced Demon Spider spirit ring and possessed two Spirit Bones. Her plan was to eliminate the support first, then take on the spider-user.
The enemy's spider-wielding woman tried to block Zhu Zhuqing's approach with spider silk, but her speed was too great to intercept.
Zhu Zhuqing reached the Support Spirit Master, unleashing Hell Rush Stab—her claws extended and glinted with power. With a flash of movement, she struck.
Zzt—Zzt—!
The disk-wielding Support Master dropped to the ground, unconscious.
Zhu Zhuqing now faced off directly with the spider Martial Soul user.
At the same time, the trapped Mad Xi's body flared with purple light.
Boom!
The Blue Silver Grass web was shattered.
Mad Xi turned to see his team's Support Master already unconscious, and his face twisted with rage. As he prepared to turn and assist, Dai Mubai blocked his path.
Seeing Mad Xi break free of Tang San's control and move to help his teammates, Dai Mubai appeared in a flash to stop him. The two clashed immediately.
Tang San and Xiao Wu were now engaged in battle with the two antelope Martial Soul users.
That left Lin Jie, Ma Hongjun, and Ning Rongrong in the rear.
The two enemy agility-attackers continued trying to slip past and attack Ning Rongrong—but with Lin Jie standing guard, their attempts were doomed to fail.
