“Eleanora Aiselle?” The desk sergeant hesitated, the name seeming to spark something familiar in his gaze. After a moment, his eyes widened as the recognition gave way to fear.
“Eleanora Aiselle!” His voice rose as he spoke the name once more, tinged in terror. A silence hung heavily between us as the sergeant stood, horror creeping throughout his entire being. The weight of Eleanora’s alleged crimes was slightly above his pay grade, and he hastened to summon someone better suited to handle this situation.
“I must report this to the district chief at once!” he cried frantically as his hands trembled in search of the telephone. His distressed fumbling was in vain, however. Unseen by him, Miu had already spirited the phone away silently, handing it to me with a conspiratorial wink.
