Chapter 94 - Chapter 93: Don't Be Afraid, It's Just a Ghost

"Is it dealt with?"

Yugen took the deck that Silent handed him and placed it into an empty deck box hanging on the side of his jacket.

When he goes out, he usually carries several deck boxes to hold different decks. One box is for SIDE decks, and he also reserves a few empty slots specifically for confiscated spoils.

Misawa usually has six deck boxes hanging on his chest, while Jaden usually carries two on his back. So normally speaking, counting the deck in the duel disk, it's no problem to carry at least nine decks when going out – this is without carrying a backpack.

Yugen took the deck and briefly looked through it.

After all, this duelist named Titan is just a charlatan, and in the anime, he didn't even duel directly. Instead, he ambushed and knocked out Alexis, then kidnapped her to force Jaden to duel him.

The duel itself wasn't really serious; he relied entirely on hypnotic tricks and dirty tactics. Once Jaden exposed his tricks, he immediately gave up the duel and tried to run.

Since he had neither dueling ethics nor real skill, there was no need to talk about honor when dealing with such a second-rate opponent. Just let the spirit attack him directly, and it's done.

This is called confiscating the tools of the crime.

As expected, the duelist named Titan used a Fiend deck. Although it was at least a named archetype, there weren't any cards he considered very powerful.

But even if they weren't useful, selling them for a good price wasn't bad.

Yugen had already sold many of the useless cards he had picked up from previous decks. He found that simply picking up decks and selling the cards was actually a decent source of income. So far, the surplus cards and duel disks he'd found were enough for him to spend for a while.

"Good job, you worked hard."

Yugen smiled and patted Silent's head.

Silent, who had been pouting unhappily, immediately froze, staring blankly at her master, who actually gave her a head pat. Her social anxiety seemed to act up again, and her cheeks flushed slightly.

In a flash, she turned into a white light and vanished back into the deck.

Yugen looked at his hand hanging in mid-air and couldn't help but ponder.

What was with that reaction that seemed a bit disgusted?

Jaden's voice came from the hallway outside: "This room also has nothing. Yugen, did you find anything on your side? Huh!?"

When he entered the room, he seemed to have just seen that white graceful figure vanish into Yugen's deck. He blinked twice, then rubbed his eyes hard.

"Did I see that right? Yugen, was that...?"

Winged Kuriboh flapped its tiny wings and flew out next to Jaden: "Kuri! Kuri!"

"Oh, so that's it! I wasn't mistaken after all!" Jaden's face lit up with surprise. "You also have a spirit, right?"

Winged Kuriboh nodded vigorously—although its entire tiny body seemed to be a head, so the image looked like it was flapping its wings and bouncing up and down: "Kuri! Kuri, kuri!"

Jaden nodded: "Yes, I know, buddy."

Yugen: "..."

No, he's actually always been curious, how do you all understand Kuriboh?

He thought every syllable sounded exactly the same.

Seeming to have met a rare compatriot, Jaden excitedly pulled him: "I've been hearing strange voices since I was very young.

At first, it was when I was dreaming in the middle of the night. I always felt like I heard someone calling my name. Then I often couldn't help but get up in the middle of the night to look at my deck..."

"And then a spirit appeared?"

"No, nothing happened after that." Jaden scratched his head awkwardly. "Haha, it's not that easy to see spirits, is it? After that, for a long time, I couldn't hear the spirits' voices.

But recently, I've started hearing them again."

As he spoke, he turned to look at Winged Kuriboh. The small Kuriboh happily narrowed its eyes, rubbing affectionately against his face: "Kuri, kuri!"

Yugen roughly understood. Indeed, although Jaden had memories of hearing spirit voices when he was a child, it seemed he had completely forgotten about his first spirit.

Poor Yubel...

Jaden's first spirit should be Yubel, who had reincarnated with him from a previous life, swearing to protect him forever.

But Yandere Yubel's protection back then was a bit too strong, turning all the little friends who beat Jaden in duels into comatose vegetables. Afterwards, she was deemed a cursed card of ill omen and was sent into space by a Kaiba Corp rocket.

After that, Jaden was tormented by nightmares related to Yubel, so his parents performed memory erasure surgery on him. Therefore, Yubel is now completely forgotten.

"Yugen's spirit seems really powerful!" Jaden said excitedly. "Can you summon her so I can see her?"

"Uh, about that..." Yugen mused, "She's shy."

Jaden: "?"

Just then, a scream came from a nearby room: "Oh!"

Jaden was startled: "Hayato and Syrus's voices!"

He quickly burst out the door and ran down the hallway to that room.

"What happened?"

"Just now... Something! Something passed by!" Syrus stammered. "This place really is problematic!"

Yugen walked slower, and when he stepped out, he indeed caught a glimpse of a strange green mass of something flying swiftly down the hallway and disappearing behind a certain door.

And he felt like he'd seen this thing before...

Jaden was puzzled: "I didn't see anything, did you two imagine it?"

"Absolutely not! Hayato and I both saw it!" Syrus shouted.

Yugen: "Don't be afraid, it's just a ghost."

Everyone: "???"

Do you not feel like there's something wrong with what you just said?

But Yugen really wasn't joking. He remembered now; it looked like a Normal Monster card. In his previous life, he hadn't even seen such an obscure Normal Monster until he saw it while studying for the Duel Academy exam.

[Phantom Ghost, Level 2, ATK 600, DEF 800]

Its description states that it's a vengeful spirit formed from the souls of those who died in this world and could not ascend, making it a genuine ghost.

However, this is the Yu-Gi-Oh world, and even ghosts cannot escape the fate of becoming cards. So, although it's an "onryo" (vengeful spirit) and sounds powerful, it's just a 600 ATK Normal Monster. Whether it's Winged Kuriboh or Silent, both would instantly obliterate it.

Indeed, even ghosts are nothing to fear in the Yu-Gi-Oh world.

But what Yugen cared about was why this dilapidated dorm would suddenly spawn monster spirits?

"Kuri!"

Winged Kuriboh flew up, signaling its master to follow.

"Winged Kuriboh, wait!"

Jaden hurriedly chased after it, and the others followed behind.

Through the hallway, they followed Kuriboh into an old, gloomy room.

On the floor, an unknown magic circle was carved, as if it had been used for some ritual. The surrounding walls were covered with complex texts and patterns, and at a glance, one could even see diagrams of some Millennium Items that no longer existed in this world.

Jaden walked to one of the stone slabs and gently brushed away the dust on top.

"Millennium Items. Did someone study Yami Yugi here?"

"Kuri!"

Winged Kuriboh flew out beside him, its tone serious this time.

Just then, Black Luster Soldier suddenly appeared beside Yugen and warned in a deep voice: "Be careful. This space is not right."

Before he could finish speaking, the magic circle carved on the ground suddenly lit up.

A strong light burst forth, instantly engulfing Yugen and Jaden. Both felt the ground disappear beneath their feet in an instant, and they felt as if the world was spinning, as if they were about to fall into another dimension.

Yugen had experienced this once before.

It was exactly the same as when he accidentally fell into the Spirit World last time.
