Chapter 38 - What's next?

The General Nori, one of the stronger enemies I've faced— He definitely should've did a lot more damage to me than this but I got lucky.

Luck seems to be on my side in the right times so far, but I can't expect it every single time.

"There will be a price to pay for my death boy, one that I don't think you're capable of handling.." Nori manages to say as he keeps himself from falling over.

Artemis wipes the blood off of his blade before sheathing it. "I'll handle it regardless." Artemis replies with a serious tone in his voice.

Thump. Clang. What's left of his armor clangs against the ground along with his body. He didn't have anything else to say, or at least he couldn't speak any longer.

The Great General Nori was dead, none of them knew what feats he actually accomplished as one of the generals, not yet at least.

What matters right now is that Artemis won the fight against him, but what he said was something that stuck with him.

A price, that's what he said. I wonder if there was any followers in the crowd watching the fight or if someone was up on the rooftops. That would be the only logical thing I could imagine with this whole fight.

Most of the crowd probably ran the moment he swang the hammer down into the ground so I doubt many people were around.

That would leave my party and any of the followers that were present during the battle itself. Footsteps can be heard running towards him until suddenly he feels arms wrap around him. "I'm so glad you're okay." Amelia says with a bit of relief in her voice.

I forgot that she called out my name during that fight and I didn't respond at the time so she was probably worried. I probably could've used some help in that fight against Nori, but somehow I managed to win.

Artemis hugs her back before speaking. "Everything is alright. It was one of the guys from the estate." Artemis replies before letting go of her.

Amelia should know that they are definitely around quite a bit since we saw them back in Avania. I don't think it'll be something that shocking or surprising for her to believe.

"I just can't believe there are so many of them to begin with." Amelia says while crossing her arms.

Dealing with this, the upcoming war, and whatever else that's yet to come will be quite the time. I'm not planning on participating in the war necessarily since my goal is to handle these bastards but it might not be avoidable.

I'm just shocked that Shimada came along still, even with the information about the pending war. I would've thought that he would stay back with his kingdom until it was dealt with.

"So a dead general lays here, what next?" Shimada chimes in with a bit of curiosity in his voice and a smile across his face.

This guy is still so hard to understand, is he serious or is he messing around. I'll never be able to tell with how he acts about every situation so far.

The last time he was genuinely serious was when he told me he needed help getting his sister back from these guys. After that he was basically back to himself, or was it after he told me about the general.

Cynthia steps forward and looks at the body. "Same people, Hmm. So we are hunting them down?" Cynthia questions after looking at the dead general.

"Yes, I just didn't want to outright say that." Artemis answers while scratching his head.

Hunting them down like animals, yes that's exactly what I'm doing. I didn't really know what to expect from Amelia's reaction here since I'm trying not to come off as some ruthless killer.

Every one of these deaths do weigh on me greatly so it's not like it's easy to keep doing this. I just have to keep telling myself this is for the greater good of the lands.

"If this prevents chaos from erupting throughout the world then I'm all for it." Amelia chimes in with a more serious expression on her face.

These are the people who killed both of our families and who left us in a bloodbath of an estate. I should've expected that she'd be more towards it than against it.

"Well, with everyone on the same page, we need more information." Artemis says while glancing around.

Just like before I need to find someone who can give me something to work with or I need to find some sort of clue towards the next target.

Within an instant a woman wearing dark black robes and some sort of steel plate mask that covers her face appears before Artemis. "I didn't expect you to kill him, he's a lot stronger than I was." The Woman says.

By the way she talks I could say that this could be the keeper from before. "I thought you were going to hide for the time being?" Artemis questions.

She took a moment to look up and down at Artemis, realizing the differences already since they fought against each other. "Hiding isn't really fun, plus I wanted to see what happened with the fight." She answers with a more laid back demeanor.

This woman is acting different from when I last spoke with her but I guess it's expected after I saved her life. She is more magic based like Amelia so I could only wonder what she's doing here.

She's surrounded by a pretty strong group of people or at least that's what I'm assuming, since I haven't seen the strength of everyone here yet.

"Fights over so is there anything else?" Artemis asks with a bit more of a serious tone.

Her current robes didn't seem to have the insignia on them like the previous ones so what exactly is she playing at here?
