"Some people don't knock louder —
they just sit outside your door
until you're ready to open it."
Dear Diary,
I thought I was subtle.
I thought I could pull away just enough
to keep my heart safe
and my smile convincing.
But… he noticed anyway.
We were sitting on the front steps of his house.
The sky was orange — the kind of sunset that spills across your lap like a blanket.
He was talking about music, I think.
About how certain songs feel like memories you haven't had yet.
And I was nodding, smiling, listening —
but not really there.
I was curled up somewhere else.
Inside my thoughts.
Inside the what-ifs and maybes and maybe-nots.
And then…
he went quiet.
Not the awkward kind of quiet —
but the gentle, thoughtful kind.
He turned toward me and said,
"You're here, but not really. Did I do something wrong?"
I looked at him, startled.
Because no — he hadn't done anything wrong.
He'd only ever been kind, patient, soft in all the right places.
So I shook my head.
He nodded.
Paused.
Then asked,
"Did someone else do something wrong… and now I'm holding the pieces?"
And Diary, I could've cried.
Not because he was accusing —
but because he understood.
He wasn't asking for explanations.
He wasn't demanding my secrets.
He just wanted to know how to hold me —
without breaking the fragile parts I hadn't shown him yet.
So I said the only true thing I could manage:
"Sometimes it's hard to believe when people stay."
He looked at me for a long moment.
Then, with that calm steadiness in his voice, said:
"Then let me prove it slowly. I'm not in a rush. I'm not leaving."
And he didn't reach for my hand this time.
He just sat there beside me, quietly —
like a lighthouse in the dark,
unmoving,
but always there.
We didn't say much after that.
Just watched the last of the sun fall into the horizon.
But something shifted.
Not everything is fixed,
but maybe… maybe I don't have to hide so hard anymore.
Maybe he's not here to fix me.
Maybe he's just here to know me.
And that, somehow, is more healing than anything else.
Till tomorrow,
Wunor 🌅🧡
