Chapter 7 - Rooftop Memories

The day it happened, Sylvester had made plans with Vale to go shopping, and then a couple of elated messages blew up his phone.

Olivia was on top of a tall building and swore that if he didn't arrive, she'd commit suicide.

After her last threat, Sylvester didn't break even a single sweat, as it was easy to suppress any attempt she made.

Any news she approached rejected her, every video she made mysteriously vanished, and even her attempts to spread rumors were dismissed as the mad rambles of an obsessed freak.

And so she decided to prove them right and chose the most drastic way to spread her words.

She had been on her livestream, but as usual, it got no views; it had somehow been made invisible.

So after a self-deprecating chuckle, she threw her phone down the building. She didn't need the livestream; people downstairs could do it for her.

Sylvester tuned into the live recording by the people surrounding the area with a heavy frown… He never thought she'd go that far.

"Hahaha," Olivia chuckled madly. She looked horrible. Dressed in a half crop shirt and rugged jeans along with faded blonde hair, even her makeup couldn't hide the lifeless energy and desperation that exuded from her.

She didn't care about anything anymore. The past week without Sylvester made her realize how miserable she was without him. So miserable, it opened her eyes to the reality that she was nothing without him.

Never in her lifetime did she ever think she'd become someone so pathetic, stupidly clinging to a rotten rope, but here she was, and perhaps… she should have seen it coming.

"Sylv…" she muttered before loudly exclaiming, "Just show up! I won't reveal anything! I'll keep quiet, just please… This silence, it's too much."

Tears dripped down her face, smearing her black mascara all over as she wept bitterly.

"I truly can't live like this anymore! Even if it's hate! Even if it's disgust, anything is fine… please… just string me along however!"

The crowd gathered, phones clicked, and lights shone. Everyone was eagerly recording her moment of devastation, and a few kindhearted souls had finally broken down the entrance to the building to approach her.

She stared dully into space, eyes moving down from time to time, searching, surveying, desperate to see that person—that ruthless bastard who stole her heart.

Her tears did not stop, washing off all her mascara all over her face and onto her white crop shirt, making her appear quite distraught.

She was patient, uncaring about her mission being ruined despite the good Samaritans racing into the building to save her—because she knew… There was no way they could break open that door without an expert.

"Sylv…" Her voice faltered in exhaustion. Despite saying only a few words, she was tired.

In truth, she had known from the very moment he gazed at her soullessly, appearing to hold more interest in air than her, that it was all futile.

But she… couldn't accept it! She just couldn't!

"Come on now, Sylv! I might be pushing it, but won't you at least gain something from this?" Olivia rattled on illogically.

"Save your crazy ex despite her madness, you'll straight up ascend to a saint! I... I'm useful, p-p-please… hick… please come see me…" Her head drooped over the wide distance, but there was no fear, only… despair.

Their first meeting was a setup; she had been hooked up by Sylvester's closest acquaintance. Before that, they had met a couple of times, and Sylvester… didn't impress her.

Firstly, she was into the docile and shy ones, and secondly, she had a preference for women and only for men with a hidden feminine side to them.

Not overtly, but quietly and hidden, waiting to be discovered by her. But even she had to admit Sylvester was mad gorgeous, and after a long while pondering, she decided to give him a chance, especially since he was open to a casual and open relationship.

When he first introduced the documents to sign, she thought it was ridiculous. He confirmed that even he knew it was, but claimed his exes had made him quite vigilant, especially since many had tried to use his reputation as a form of blackmail.

There was nothing too radical within—mostly clauses that made everything that happened in the relationship a secret except abuse, and the odd repetition of clauses confirming their relationship as casual… even one where either party was free to cancel the relationship when the other tried imposing anything serious.

Olivia found it hilarious and, frankly, arrogant. Her falling for him? She had stories of all his exes still holding the hots for him but believed in herself very deeply.

Her dismissiveness soon turned out to be her hubris.

Since Sylvester was popular, despite knowing the open nature of their relationship, his fans loathed her very open habit of sleeping around, especially because Sylvester sorely focused on her, making the relationship open only on her end.

She had once suspected foul play on his side but eventually came to realize he held no ulterior motive, making sure to clarify the misunderstanding to his hateful fans… who still chose to remain hateful.

Thus, the early part of their relationship was very controversial. Olivia couldn't tell why the male was insistent on not using his polyamorous rights before eventually concluding that he had an odd fetish.

Though he always swore he just really liked being romantic with no strings attached.

Olivia didn't know until much later that it was all part of his manipulative tactic. She pretty much derailed from there.

He was always there for her—loving, caring, giving—while demanding virtually nothing in return. Freedom with exclusivity, she didn't know how addictive it was until she started falling for him.

And one day she had come home crying from the betrayal of her only friend; he held her within his arms, consoled her, and made her know that she was loved.

That day, something in her changed, but she was yet to know it.

Eventually, she lost all desire for others, enraptured with the love he poured out to her. It was only then that she understood the charm everyone swore he had. He was so hypnotic; Olivia didn't know when she lost herself to him.

People were surprised. Her acquaintances wondered how she had suddenly gone from uncaring to having everything about her being for him.

Slowly, she thinned out her associations on her own and focused all her attention on Sylvester.

She noticed her phone had stopped buzzing. Her inbox was quiet. It should've scared her. But instead, she smiled—more time for Sylvester.

She didn't care about his problematic refusal to confirm the nature of their relationship.

She ate up his lies about being unready due to the trauma of his former relationships and actively avoided any discussion on it in fear of bothering him.

She stalked him online and made her whole personality about him, constantly battling with faceless personalities online, obsessed with making it known that he was hers.

Everything was perfect; even online, they were known as a couple deeply in love with each other, and even though Sylvester's entire fanbase swore she'd soon be gone like all the others, she treated their words as envious babbling.

It was all so wonderful until her birthday. Sylvester missed it, which was inconceivable with the nature of their bond. She already had a million and one excuses as to why he missed it, but once she asked, she was met with a lethargic and uncaring response—"I forgot."

For a moment, she waited for a grin, a wink, something to say he was joking. But there was nothing. Just that blank stare. Just silence. Like she was a stranger.

It was nothing… after all, it was a one-time thing. Maybe he had something troubling him, and despite her sadness, she didn't mind, or so she wished.

Despite trying to wave it off as nothing, as the rumors spread that Sylvester had deserted her on her birthday, the mockery piled up doubts within her.

And adding to Sylvester's refusal to speak up, she felt like she was losing her mind. And so she slept around as payback and to elicit even the tiniest response from him.

As usual, he didn't mind, but unlike before where he loved her despite her polyamory, this time he simply ignored her.

Whenever she confronted him, his loveliness would wipe away her anger despite his cruel apathy.

And eventually, she was stuck in a cycle, seeking and clinging to the smallest findings until it eventually thinned down to nothing.

Dread filled her mind every single day like she was drowning in ink, but she desperately clung to hope, and then finally, like her struggles had been seen, Sylvester invited her out—something that hadn't happened for a long while now!

How exciting! She was so happy. So, so happy… But…

… It was a breakup. And Olivia… lost her mind.
