Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 : The Shattered Prophecy

The Whispering Citadel

The white-haired girl—Nyx—led Eira through the tunnels beneath the sanctuary, where the walls pulsed with bioluminescent fungi. The air smelled of wet stone and something older: ink, iron, and the faint ozone of charged magic.

"We call this place the Scriptorium," Nyx said, running her fingers along carvings that twisted like living vines. "The Forgotten wrote their history here after the slaughter. Your ancestor tried to burn it, but stone remembers."

Eira's boots sank into the moss-covered floor as they entered a cavernous chamber. Dozens of robed figures hunched over massive stone tablets, their hands glowing as they traced the etched symbols.

Lyria stepped forward, her silvered eyes reflecting the eerie light. "Meet the Scribes of the Hollow—the last historians of the Forgotten War."

One scribe looked up, pushing back her hood to reveal bark-like skin and eyes without pupils—just swirling galaxies of black and silver.

"You are the key," the scribe rasped. "And the lock."

The Archivist

A man emerged from the shadows—tall, his face obscured by a mask of woven silver threads that moved like living veins. When he spoke, his voice echoed as if three people were talking at once.

"I am Vareth, Keeper of the Unwritten." He lifted his hands, and the carvings on the walls shifted, rearranging into new patterns. "You've been fed lies, Starlight Heir. Let me show you the truth."

He pressed his palm to Eira's forehead—

—and the world dissolved.

---

The First War (Revealed)

Eira stood on a battlefield under a bleeding sky.

Two armies clashed—not Celestials against Forgotten, but Celestials and Forgotten together, fighting side by side against a third force: figures clad in radiant gold, their faces blank masks, their swords carving through both light and shadow alike.

"The Luminarchs," whispered Nyx's voice beside her. "The first tyrants. They believed magic should belong only to the 'pure.'"

The vision twisted—

—now showing Eira's ancestor, not a queen but a general, standing over a bound Luminarch. Instead of killing it, she drank from its golden blood—

—and her eyes turned black.

"The first corruption," Vareth intoned. "She took their power. Then she turned on her own allies."

The Forgotten hadn't betrayed the Celestial Court.

They'd tried to stop a monster.

---

The Hollow Crown

Eira staggered back into the present, her knees buckling. "Why show me this?"

Vareth's mask rippled. "Because the Luminarchs are returning. And the only weapon that can stop them is buried in your* bones."

Lyria unrolled a scroll, revealing a sketch of a jagged crown made of shadow and starlight. "The Hollow Crown—forged from the heart of the first Forgotten. Your ancestor hid it inside her bloodline. In you."

The voice in Eira's head hissed:

"They want to use you. Just like she did."

Nyx giggled, twirling a lock of white hair. "Oh, it's not using if you say yes."

The Prisoner in the Dark

Deep beneath the Scriptorium, behind a door of blackened bone, Eira found him.

Kaelan.

Alive—but barely.

He hung suspended in a cage of living shadows, his body flickering between solid and smoke. His golden eyes snapped open as she approached.

"Eira?" His voice was raw. "Don't—trust them—"

A shadow lashed out, gagging him.

Vareth stepped forward. "He is bound to the Shadow King's oath. Until that tie is severed, he's a danger to you."

Eira's hands shook. "Let him go."

"When the crown is awake," Vareth said, "you can free him yourself."

The voice inside her purred:

"Or we could devour him now and take his power."

---

The Trial of Echoes

To awaken the Hollow Crown, Eira had to face the Echoes—ghosts of every heir who'd carried the curse before her.

The chamber was a mirror-lined abyss. As she stepped inside, her reflections moved independently, each whispering:

"You'll fail."

"You're already broken."

"He'll hate you when he knows what you are."

Then one reflection stepped out of the glass—a younger Eira, her eyes full of stars.

"I'm what you could have been,"the girl said. "Before the voice got in."

She pressed a hand to Eira's chest—

—and the real pain began.
