Chapter 9 - chapter nine

The first month together felt like a dream. Diana and he saw each other more and more often, finding any excuse to spend time together, and in those moments, it was as if the rest of the world disappeared around them.

Each encounter was a discovery, a chance to learn small details that made their connection feel unique.

"When I was little, I got lost one day and my parents went crazy looking for me everywhere," Diana said, laughing.

"And what happened?".

"You wouldn't believe it even if I told you," she replied with a nostalgic smile, still laughing. "The weird part is, I never left the garden. I literally got lost in the bushes."

"Seriously?" Jasper asked, unable to hold back his laughter.

"After that little incident, my parents didn't let me go out for a whole month."

Telling Jasper her little adventures made her feel freer than ever. With him, she could be herself—quirks, doubts, and all.

He listened to her and responded with patience and understanding—something she deeply valued.

"Do you see yourself having kids in the future?" Diana asked, gazing intently at Jasper, who seemed to think too much before answering.

"I honestly don't know. If I'm being sincere, I never imagined a future like that," he replied truthfully. "But that doesn't mean I don't want to have kids."

"That's okay," she said with a forced smile. "I like pop music. What about you?"

"I'm more into jazz or opera," Jasper said without hesitation.

An awkward silence settled between them. Beneath the peace they shared, small differences were beginning to surface—moments when their expectations and realities didn't quite align.

It was subtle, almost imperceptible at first, but they both knew they were approaching a point where their relationship would be tested.

After that day, they each started to notice traits in the other that didn't fit with their own expectations. And everything began one afternoon when they had planned a weekend trip to the beach.

Both were excited—especially since it would be their first trip together. Diana had worked hard to clear her schedule, speeding through tasks so she wouldn't be bothered during their time away. Every night, when she got home, she planned every detail of the trip—the route, the lodging, even the food stops along the way.

She wanted their first trip to be perfect, a special moment for the two of them.

However, on the day of the trip, Jasper showed up over an hour late, without warning and barely prepared, wearing his jacket as if nothing had happened.

"Sorry, work ran late," he said with a smile, as if it were no big deal.

"It's okay. What matters is that you're here," Diana replied, trying to hide her frustration. But inside, she felt her effort and excitement hadn't been matched.

Throughout the drive, there was a noticeable tension in the silence, each lost in their own thoughts.

Jasper glanced over at her, wanting to say something, but the words vanished before they could form.

When they finally arrived at the beach, both stared at the sea, the sight helping them forget the earlier discomfort—at least for a moment. They got out of the car, and while Jasper started unloading their things, Diana still felt disappointed.

At that moment, she had a sense of déjà vu and began to question: Were they really on the same wavelength? Or was she just furious over something trivial?
